    Yanmar, New Holland, Kioti, or any of the other 2nd tier tractors have evolved into amazing values. I spent my childhood admiring John Deere. When it came down to spending my own money on a compact tractor to manage my 55 acre property I went with a Kioti because I have a local dealer with an excellent reputation and I saved about $30,000 vs the comparable JD or Kubota.
    P.S. I can never buy a tractor without a cab again. Having heat in the winter, AC in the summer and just not getting blasted in the face with dirt when dumping the bucket is priceless!

      I would not consider New Holland 2nd tier. It just the continuation of the Ford line, and that was one of the most common utility tractor in the area I grew up in. Think hay baling country. And most are excellent tractors. I have a Deere now with a Yanmar engine, because that is the closest dealer and offered a good deal. It is a solid tractor also.

    I bought a Yanmar compact tractor about a year ago and love the thing. It cost less than a comparable John Deere would cost WITHOUT a loader.

    I just bought a new MF 2860 deluxe cab loader tractor 60hp…..After really looking at what’s available out there. It really is the class of the field in my opinion. It’s a hydrostatic drive with all available options except 3rd function ( I’ve never found any job that I can’t do with just pallet forks) and the grapples are too heavy anyway. MF has air ride seat, LED cab lights front and rear, radio, ( it doesn’t have the exterior 3pt hitch control ). But it does have the fender mounted PTO control which is what can give some folks a headache anyway.. it has steps on both sides of the cab for entry, cruise, speed control, 3 range hydro trans front and rear wipers, 3 pt pin type stabilizers and the list goes on and on and on. My biggest like is the ergonomics of all the controls positions and cab comfort. And yes you can drive it like a car and just pus the pedal forward and it takes off. The Yanmar shown is really just a CVT transmission. I had a 46hp cab new holland CVT and did not like it at all and sold it and got this MF to replace it. But as you have stated ever since I’ve been a viewer. You need to buy equipment from an awesome dealer as the dealer makes or breaks your experience with what ever brand someone buys…. Great video and super informative on the Yanmar equipment. 👍👍🔥🔥

      I was going to add a comment about how similar this Yanmar was to my MF1840, but you beat me to it. I agree with most of your input. The only real con I have with mine is an exterior lift on the 3 point

    • @jsflagstad
      @jsflagstad 10 місяців тому +2

      I have a MF 1736 Cab tractor which is similar as well. Mine is about 5 years old and I bought it new. Has a loader and TFR on the loader and the rear. I have about 650 hours on it, I use it for everything including cutting, raking, and baling hay. I bale small squares which it handles easily, I also do 4' x 5' round bales and THAT takes ALL of the HP it has but it gets it done. Also plows snow like a champ, starts in the cold weather very well, and is still on the original battery. I believe it has a 3 cyl Mitsubishi turbo diesel and if I replace this tractor I'd get the same one with the 4-cyl and 50 hp. Really nothing I don't like about the tractor, I'd buy another in a heartbeat, I have two brothers and one has a comparable Deere and the other a comparable Kubota, and this MF completely outclasses those two. The cab is many times better, and overall tractor control and features are far better than both. The Yanmar looks like a real nice machine as well, but I think I'd still take a Massey. ;)

      I have a 2021 MF2860 standard cab. Like it a lot. Only dislike is that the 3 speed gears of the hydrostatic drive don’t always engage easily. Minor point really. It was many thousands of bucks less in cost than comparable JD. Very happy with the MF

    • @platinumjeweler
      @platinumjeweler 9 місяців тому +1

      Interesting comparison. I'm no expert, but the Yanmar's unique transmission creates 52HP PTO vs the MF at 44 PTO, this is from the same engine 60 HP tractors, that's quite of difference. Also, the ultimate range of power adjustments from this Yanmar I-HMT transmission make it more useful in more applications and an overall better mechanical performance. Obviously Yanmar engines are in a class by themselves. I applaud Yanmar or any manufacturer that tries to make the best tractor as their main focus. Most other issues are subjective as a comparison. Nice video Brock.

    • @genewilliams7497
      @genewilliams7497 9 місяців тому

      @@platinumjeweler the massy is a true hydrostatic transmission and does rob some hp from the PTO. It’s a preference thing for sure as I prefer the hydro on my small tractors. On all my haying and chore tractors that are above 125hp I will only use a power shift transmissions. I have two 2012 NH T6050 125HP cab 4wd tractors and a MF 2023 5711D 130hp ( its tuned ) full power shift and its totally my favorite machine. It’s the smoothest transmission I’ve ever operated. I have it weighted to 16,000lbs and the NH’s weighted to 18,000lbs Yanmar is a quality company that makes a great compact machine for sure! 👍👍

    I came close to buying a new yanmar cab tractor. The tractor is built very solid, and yanmar has a great reputation. Having said that, no matter how great they are, you have to have an established dealer network to be successful selling equipment period.
    My local dealer was a co-op and the had a line of yanmars out front, they had no one to work on them service them, no service department and very few in stock parts. The tractors went unsold to the poin that the paint was fading on models they had for such a long time. Now they are not even a yanmar dealer anymore.
    The other factor to consider is resale value. Kubota and deere own this category.
    I'm not bashing the product at all a lot of my equipment I use run yanmar engines, and they are top shelf reliable.

      I own a Yanmar YT235. What you describe is what I see in my area. Places open with Yanmar and keep them for a while and then drop the line.... Many places that open with Yanmar, may be lawnmower shops, or car dealers. These places have little to no mechanical abilities to service the tractors or parts stocked to fix them.....
      I like my Yanmar tractor, but the dealer network has made me think about selling and buying another brand. When I bought mine, there was a dealer maybe 7 or 8 minutes from my house. Now, a decent dealer is probably an hour to an hour and 45 minutes away....
      I honestly don't know why the tractors haven't caught on more than they have. The only thing I can think is that maybe Yanmar corporate is difficult to deal with????

    • @stephenhinkle3277

      Getting folks in America to try something different than they have always known is a very difficult sale in my opinion. American companies use "name recognition" to sale in America and that doesn't always mean quality. That beautiful green and yellow paint make folks feel like they are getting a piece of the American dream by owning one. I'm not against JD I even own one but coming from a mechanical engineering background, I look deeper than the paint and the sales pitch. I think yanmar has done a poor job of presenting yanmar as a trusted name brand and the lack of solid dealerships that know the tractors inside and out and that have provisions to repair and support is the nail in the coffin...

    Beauty is in the eye of beholder. I've had a YT359 cab unit for 5 years and have 2 dealers within 20 miles either way in north central Ohio, I'm fortunate I know. Never have I had any issues with it with the exception of operator error. Log with it every year, outside classic wood boiler. Brush hogging, stump grinding running tree shear etc. etc. I agree ergonomics of 3 point levers not ideal but not a deal breaker. I sure would like to have the 3 point lever out back of machine, but I open right hand wing side glass and reach thru there. Had an LX4900 open station hydrostat before upgrading, no issues. Finally I have the SA221 with loader and 60 mower deck. That should sum up I am sold on product.

    I love Yanmar tractors. I looked at 1025R's and BX models in subcompacts and those are both good machines from good companies but in my mind the Yanmar stood out front. They are a premium tractor and they do cost a premium price similar to the two other companies I mentioned. If someone is has a fixed budget on the lower end of the spectrum I think a TYM, Kioti or LS is where they should look. But if they can afford it I don't think you can get a better tractor than a Yanmar.

      A lot of tractor companies use Yanmar engines in their tractors....a lot of industrial equipment companies use Kubota engines in their equipment, a lot of the older refer units on semi-trailers were ran with Kubota engines. Both companies make great engines....and I'm not sure how Yanmar is with their tractors but Kubota builds all their stuff in house, JD likes to pick and part their tractors together from a mishmash of different suppliers...if I recall Yanmar does in house build most of their tractors too.
      Like many have said Yanmar just doesn't have the dealer network like JD, Kubota, New Holland, etc.
      Until I started looking at tractors I had no idea that JD used another company's engines in their tractors LOL. I think Kubota uses Cummins engines in some of their big M-Series tractors if I'm not mistaken, or used to at least as Kubota at the time didn't have engines suitable for that size of tractor.

Only to discover they have self selected out of the market. There are very few commercial equipment dealers of Yanmar in Indiana, and some of them used to carry the compact tractors. As it is, I would have had to drive across a state line, approximately 200 miles from my area. There is a literal Ferrari dealership closer to my house than a Yanmar dealership. And sorry, they were on my short list, but their reputation doesn't overcome as much self selecting yourself out of my market as if you were Ferrari ... and a Lamborghini pulls a plow far better than any Ferrari ever has. Certain companies just make it clear, they don't want to sell you their products. Some like Bud Light have regretted it immediately after telling their customers, however can't bring themselves to apologize or even acknowledge they said anything wrong. But that is what it took to get everyone else on board with not being budweiser fans. For me it went further back, to when a family business was sold to a foreign conglomerate. In the Compact tractor market, there is no home team to root for as much as JD tries to fool people. It is well known, you have to get above 60 horse before you can get an American machine. So my choices were narrowed to Kioti and TYM/ Branson. I went with TYM. and have not regretted it. I feel it is the up and Comer in the industry, I especially love the Kukje engine with it's mechanical injection pump and minimal computer interference in things.

I've been looking at TYM tractors and they look to be well Engineered machines I was Initially going to buy a John Deere but after looking around and looking at prices and features John to hear is probably the worst option on the market for the money. Yes they are good tractors but they need to get Realistic with the pricing In the Kubota are also pricey when compared to some others.

      I do appreciate the feedback, but I also feel the opposite about the information shared.
      With just a spec sheets, all the tractors look about the same. For instance a Google search will tell you that most of the tractors in this class have similar lift capacities
      I traveled to see this tractor because I think it has a transmission that is unique in the industry, and I tried to focus on that. It basically has the power of a gear drive with the convenience of a hydrostat, and nobody else is making anything like it. It also has a unique range of adjustability with the AB modes in each range. Nobody else is offering that in a compact.
      The other thing that would make me search out a Yanmar tractor is the story I told about how they engineer and build their machine from the ground up.

    Other than the trans and the actual speed showing up, my LS has everything you have on the Yanmar with the rear 3-point adjusting lever in the back. And I'll bet that Yanmar cost more. When I bought my LS 2-1/2 yrs ago I priced the comparable Deere. It was $14,000 more than the LS. And quite honestly I'd put it up against a Deere. They are all making darn good tractors today. The one thing all of today's tractors have that I don't like is all the electronic gadgetry. When this stuff starts to go south in about 15 to 20 yrs it will be expensive to repair. Just like today's cars. The old tractors don't have that problem. They just keep running. I appreciate your showing the Yanmar. There are no Yanmar dealers anywhere near me. So I've never seen one up close. But I think it's a good tractor but I'll continue on with my LS. It also is a darn good tractor.

    Great review Brock! If you haven't had a hydro-static transmission before, I think this would be the ideal transmission, runs like the forklifts I've driven in the past and makes a lot of sense. I think the rear remote control locations would be ideal, as you would likely be turned some and looking towards the rear when you were adjusting them. Like running a rear snowblower and having the controls to rotate the chute and raise or lower the deflector. Even using it for a top & tilt, you would be twisted around some looking back and you right arm would be in the ideal place to adjust those, in my opinion anyways. The lack of the rear mounted control for the 3pt is definitely disappointing. In fact, that is the one thing I don't think you showed inside, was the 3pt lever location (I may have missed it though). I really like the large rear overhang of the cab roof, though not a fan of the front part of the rook, just looks weird and I would want more sun protection (but I need to stay out of the sun unlike most seem to love the sun), though I see the advantage it would be for upper visibility when using the loader up high. I get in and out of my Kioti DK50SE cab as much on the right side as I do on the left side, so I would want a step on both sides and room to easily get past the loader control, though this is not an option anymore on the current DK or NS/NX Kioti's as they have made the clearance past the loader control way to narrow, so may be an advantage to my older machine that just isn't available anymore. Anyways, really enjoyed the review and all the information (think Yanmar needs to get one out to your property for a long term review and get there YT market share into the competition...), have a good one!! 👍

    The pins and bushings that connect the FEL to the SSQA have too much play, as if the loader is older and worn. It will cause the bucket to rock back and forth as if on an older tractor. The brackets that connect them have too much lateral play and need to be shimmed as well. They have at least, if not more than 1/4” of play. It’ll cause you to grease those front four pins every couple of uses,…especially the two on the bottom to keep dirt out. The rear stabilizers can only be set in one position. The style that is used will cause them to hit the planetary gear case of the axles if you adjust the pins to other holes. It won’t do it when the 3 pt is down. It’s only when it’s raised. You won’t notice it until you remove that spring and install a 3 pt quick attach or implement. I’m gonna have to contact Yanmar about the lack of steering response when the FEL is under somewhat of a decent load. Other than those few issues,…it’s a great machine. The transmission A/B mode gets used every single time I drive it. Cruise works great. The tilt steering fold vertical when it’s forward, which makes for plenty of room to enter and exit,…along with the extra room design of the door. I’m 6’6”. So not having to step around the steering wheel is a big deal for me.
    Brock, the small turtle/rabbit knob controls how aggressive the transmission engages/disengages 😁. The big turtle/rabbit knob sets the speed and rpms. You just switch the gray rocker switch below it to select which one you want to adjust.

      @@RockhillfarmYT check your pins when you get min. Raise your bucket up higher and curl it to where it’s balanced. Then grab it and rock it back and forth. That’s how you check the tolerance of your pins and bushings. Then lower your FEL and push and pull on your bucket from the side to check the lateral play of the brackets.
      You’ll become really efficient when you get dialed in with that A/B mode.

      @amandadavis9726 10 місяців тому

      I thought the same thing until I test drove one, and then owned it. You will be more productive with it. I bought mine, and used it to move and prep over 200 IBC totes for firewood storage. I have A mode set for moving the stacked totes and B mode for traveling in between. I didn’t have a ton of space to organize the totes to break them down,…so there was a lot of driving in reverse kinda like in a warehouse. It was all done in the 2nd range. You get used to using that A/B mode button. You won’t have to worry about adjusting your pedal for your travel speed because each mode will only allow up to whatever speed you set it to.
