Hi Shogo! Can you cover a topic on what is masculine in Japanese society and how it is today? I don't believe there is a lot of discussion in Japanese masculinity. Much appreciated if you do.
Sukiyaki was one of the songs we learned in Japanese class to help us learn the language. My dad who grew up when it was on the radio immediately recognized it when I was whistling it around the house.
Well... Cardboard is a kind of paper. Paper is made from mulched wooden fibers. So any stringed instrument relying on a wooden reveberation box should, in theory, work in a very similar fashion when the wood reverb box is replaced with a cardboard box.
As a guitarist for 17 years and a dabbler of all things sting instruments as well as non stringed instrument. The instrument doesn't necessarily need to be made of wood. Any material can be used and they all act and sound just about the same.
Ever since I started watching you I have been wanting a shamisen video because shamisen is so cool! So I loved this video! I have one myself and there is not a lot of ways to learn in my country Norway but I hope to find someone who can teach me one day (:
Cool, Kazu did a great Job for just a short amount of training. And for Tomoko you could really see and hear the hard work she put in for training in playing the shamisen. It sounded really nice. Thanks for sharing.
This really makes shamisen accessible to people that want to get started. 👏 Now if they could do something similar for katana. 🤔 Maybe I've mentioned it before. 😂
I've been thinking of trying out the shamisen, but buying a "real" with no teachers in my area has always shied me away from it, but a cheapo for 100$ that will let me try it out and see if it's something i want to get into. Yeah, i'd pick one up for fun.
I love listening to people playing the shamisen since 15 years or so, in my opinion one of the best instruments on the world. It just sound so calming and wonderful.
Hi there, Thanks for a great video. Tomoko san is great at playing the Tsugaru Shamisen. Her Ringo Bushi sounds great. I also play the Tsugaru shamisen. I’m so happy to see another player. It’s a wonderful. ✨✨
Just been 30 min after repeatedly listening to Tomoko and don't know how much time it will take to move on it just so nice don't have words to describe
Thank you for a very enjoyable video. Music truly is one of the most difficult to comprehend human arts...especially why certain tones combinations and rhythms seem to please our species nearly universally. What a marvel of both evolution and human ingenuity!
I love this so much! I recently made a gottan shamisen with manual hand tools out of oak lumber and a wooden craft box. Mine doesnt have the sawari sound that a shamisen makes but I dont think a shabo does either :) Now I just have to learn how to play it! Would love to share pictures with you.
I am in loooove with the sound of the shamisen all credit to Benisan from wagakki band after seeing how creative the instrument can be. Tomoko absolutely slaying it!! ❤️❤️ I have so many questions 🧐🧐🤔🤔 about the shamisen and hope to see more like this!
Kind of want to try playing the shamisen as well. Usually I play the guitar but I love all sorts of traditional and historical string instruments from around the world and wish I could play them all.
it feels like i havent seen tomoko and kazu for a long time even though kazu was a few videos ago. It is really a nice change to hear tomoko do the intro! I was surprised!
I just remembered it being plucked instead of using a bachi, it functions like the Sanshin. Been wanting to a makeshift one too like the cardboard one. I also didn't know there are 100k yen Shamisens like that, I was aiming for a cheaper one like the shabo but built in between the 100k and the 10k. Again thank you for this feature. I remembered Sukiyaki being sung by my Mom and asking me the meaning of the lyrics.
Hey Shogo, I'm curious what your Japanese fans think of this show. Do you get any criticisms from fellow Japanese citizens who think you sometimes criticize Japan too harshly? In America, we can never have social criticism without heavily vocal opposing critics.
This is awesome Shogo I didn’t know how you played this instrument thanks again for your video say hello to your wife and family love you guys bless you until later this is Rudy Menchaca from the states Texas ❤😊
The numbers reminds me of the Tablature I used to learn some Metallica songs on Electric Guitar back in High School and College. I was able to play the main rift of Master of Puppets pretty well, not the whole song, definitely not the solo 😅. That was a very long time ago so I probably can’t play it anymore. How sturdy is the cardboard Shamisen? Thinking of Cardboard make me think of those Nintendo Switch Accessories 😂. Though a Nintendo Switch game that teaches how to play Shamisen would be lit 🔥.
First time I start into liking to listening Shamisen from One Piece anime. Truly wonderful! By the i may be out of topic but I just want to ask you, wich kanji is the correct one, り佐ール or リサール ?
Will there be a video from the rokudan nanba? I saw some clips on your insta account some time ago and the man singing to the shamisen was just amazing 🤗 Again loved the video!
That sounds very nice for a cardboard instrument. I was wondering though - is it possible to play one using a real bachi? Have you tried it? Or is the cardboard too fragile?
That was actually pretty amazing! Did you happen to provide a link to where it could be purchased? I think I might take it up if it’s only $100 off of Amazon.
where can i buy her shamisen at tho 😭😭😭😭 im serious i want the real deal but ebay only sells ripped ones or plush toys 😭 does any one know of a shop that will ship to usa? 😭🤝
I thought the title "Sukiyaki" I thought it was an alternative title because people in the west had trouble pronouncing the name and thought an easy word so it would catch on more easily. But as far as I understood it's a beautiful emotional song... But you use the same title? Is it because it's more familiair to foreigners or did the westernisation stuck in Japan too?
It's probably a better idea to buy and restore a used shamisen than to buy a 100 dollar cardboard toy that doesn't even sound like a shamisen. (That's what I'm currently doing. I got a used one for only 45 dollars, it's broken but it’s a simple fix. It just needs to be glued back together and reskinned. The dou is cracked open but the sao is straight.)

@@cyan_oxy6734 No, because in this case it's an issue of texture and vibration, not taste.

I absolutely love the sound of the shamisen I listen to it on Spotify when I'm reading or just relaxing
I seriously love the sound of Shamisen too✨
Tomoko came in like "step aside" and shredded them apples! XD

I'm suddenly imagining a geiko or maiko showing up to entertain with a cardboard shamisen. 🤣
I really appreciate traditional music from all cultures but Japanese traditional music has something others don't truly beautiful
This really makes shamisen accessible to people that want to get started. 👏 Now if they could do something similar for katana. 🤔 Maybe I've mentioned it before. 😂
Check out his video on the spin strike. They had an aluminum and a polypropylene katana that they used.

Well done Tomoko. I love this.
Now I want to hear the pro shamisen player play the cardboard shamisen.
I could recognize the song! Kazu is a very quick learner. Please offer us more music.
I love listening to people playing the shamisen since 15 years or so, in my opinion one of the best instruments on the world. It just sound so calming and wonderful.
Now to add a pickup, amplifier, delay pedal, reverb, distortion, etc...
ROCK OUT😎👍😃

This video also reminds me that I have plans to build shabo for my kids :)
Kazu did great after only 30 minutes. So fun!
Possibly due to him being a guitarist so the muscle memory is embedded
Still he still makes some mistakes in the chords
Just been 30 min after repeatedly listening to Tomoko and don't know how much time it will take to move on it just so nice don't have words to describe
The beginner shamisen almost sounds like the actual shamisen though you could hear the difference of how it sounds

That Shabo sounds like a great way to get started learning shamisen. Unfortunately, it looks like it's sold out everywhere.
This was a fun video to watch!
Shamisen shredding is awesome..beni ninagawa is queen of the shamisen (rock)
I completely agree😍 I love Wagakki Band!!
Wow what a cool instrument ❤
Nice playing very awesome
Tomoko is so cute 😍
Beautiful shamisen
So cool! It's great to see you guys in the videos
I love the sound of shamisen.❤️
I love the shamisen. Ogi no mato is one of my favorite songs that got me interested in the shamisen.
awesome work kazu!

I just remembered it being plucked instead of using a bachi, it functions like the Sanshin.
Been wanting to a makeshift one too like the cardboard one.

Quite impressive... Considering the material.
Amazing
Tomoko is so talented, wow!
Hey Shogo, I'm curious what your Japanese fans think of this show. Do you get any criticisms from fellow Japanese citizens who think you sometimes criticize Japan too harshly? In America, we can never have social criticism without heavily vocal opposing critics.
The cardboard one sounds more like a sanshin to me than a shamisen.
But still it looks like a decent instrument on a budget.
Omg this music is so amazing ☺️ and seeing them play is So cool❤
This is quite interesting
Intersting to hear
what the shakuhachi player has to say about groove in traditional music.
Nice!!
Ah! I'd love to learn the shamisen. I went to Amazon Japan but they were sold out. ☹️
This is awesome Shogo I didn’t know how you played this instrument thanks again for your video say hello to your wife and family love you guys bless you until later this is Rudy Menchaca from the states Texas ❤😊
very nice video!
Thank you.
Those strings sound like a ukulele
Referring to the cheap shamisen. Still, when they become available again I'd love to grab one. Always wanted a shamisen.
Awesome!!! 👍

SO adorable
Pretty much a Cigar Box Guitar (CBG). :) Even the tuning is similar; meaning it's a power chord.
That was so cool! Domo Arigato!!
Beatifull music
THANKS :)
Sounds like the answer to the question in the title is: ... Almost!

What kinda guitar are y’all playin that you strum every string? I-cords don’t need that
