Weird.. when I expand my 3D 'Superman' .. a square with X appears.. and even in wire frame (Y) I am unable to see any outline.. it's as if 'Expand' rendered my 3D object as a 2D square 🤔
I've tried a few different attempts at creating this but when I click the magic wand it won't let me select the front of the text, any help here?
Hard to tell why, but have you set the tolerance of the magic wand tool to 1 before clicking on the text?
Unfortunately mine's doing the same, I wonder if it has to do with a difference in versions maybe, or maybe we have a setting that's different somewhere down the line :/
I just had the same problem, but I tried to choose Effect > 3D & Materials > 3D (Classic) > Extrude & Bevel (Classic) and it worked :)
I am working on a perjocject we need this effect I was not sure how I do but after seeing this I am able to do this

when i hit free distort, mines didnt show what you did in the video. Mines just simply dragged the word up.
Hard to tell what the problem is without further information.
But possible solutions are:
- Create outlines under "Type" before you apply the distortion
- Make sure to use the "free distortion" and not the "free transformation" tool (they are both in the same toolbox
- You need to distort only the anchor point at the top left
- Hold Shift when you distort the anchor point

@@MichaelBrig you know what's funny. I was doing it in photoshop and thought it was illustrator. So I downloaded illustrator and never mind. I did it. Your video was quite helpful than the others.
