I don't think the marketing and communication necessarily is that much of a problem at this point, I see Alpha as a way to pique interest, then Beta is testing phase. After that we'll have to see.
I bet Erik has the plans ready for the next phase already, but his focus is to get Beta out without any more delays.
If I were him, I wouldn't go for revised after Alpha and Beta unless there's a ton of new cards in addition to the revised.
So my bet is Arthurian Legends followed by Revised to maintain the interest among the already hooked players and card sharks.
    My score is:
    Art: A
    Gameplay: A
Communication: B (They need to have a rulebook that fulfills any scenario that might occur.)
Marketing: D (Which is important to get onto the track as soon as possible, so it doesn't bottleneck for them with whatever edition is coming next.)
Good video and talk my dude. Keep it up!
    Cheers from Norway!

I'd love to see a roundtable!
I've been saying this entire time that Beta will be plentiful and cheap... I've been saying that because it needs to be true for Sorcery to get off the ground. We're all aware that the market Discord and the official Discord have dropped off hard without news/hype and we know the prices are coming down on Alpha but that should just be a normal part of the cycle. If we get to October with a bunch of flippers who preordered Beta and no one can get product or find someone to play with then we're in big trouble.
I spent a fair chunk of time over the last 2 years bringing print and play decks to card shops over the east coast but like I've seen some other people say, they've created a small following in stores but now they're setup for failure because they won't be able to get product to play with. Now I've been giving away Alpha like crazy just to get something for someone to play with but I'm kind of feeling like an asshole when the company can't advertise.
There are millions of Magic players that you'll never get to, that's fine you don't need to. But there are only a couple thousand card shops that you can put a dent in and a decent amount have shown interest. You can not drop the ball with Beta because these people won't come back with all the options that are available right now.
More than anything we need consistent communication from the Sorcery team, consistent being the operative word. No more promises of weekly/biweekly updates, we really just need an official weekly/biweekly video even if it's just to say nothing. I've been waiting on KS campaigns for years now and they still have a monthly update of their production.
The game is too damn fun and the idea is too damn good to let it fall flat. I'm sure that Erik and friends have a great plan but they need to at least share some of that plan with stores and maybe even regular players.

They have a news update that they seem to do almost weekly and it features community spotlights and various news type things. Have you seen it? Do you think that is a good step or should be done differently? I REALLY want to be better informed of future plans and how/why stores should carry a product that releases annually.

@@CollectorArthouse Yeah I catch it sometimes when I see the Discord announcements and it's a great addition (minus the lack of notifications). I think what I'd ultimately like to see is a newsletter straight to my email, which is something these other KS games have been doing.
So crowdfunding is a way of finding investors to start your project and from that perspective I'd like to be kept in the loop of their future plans. When I think about buying in to a campaign with a known personality like Erik, I do background work on everyone involved, Erik, Nickolas, Simon etc. I think everyone who wants to back should do a little work to see what could happen to their money and I think the company owes that much to their investors. However, once they delivered on the campaign it seems like they've wanted to switch gears over to corporate mode and I'm not totally against that in respect with what Sorcery thinks we're owed as (now) fans.
I would personally love to be informed about future plans as well from the standpoint of someone who will selfishly continue to advertise the game and make sure I have people to play with in the future.
I think stores should carry Sorcery the same way they carry board games. You're not going to get a weekly playgroup together in your store because you'd be splitting up your customers (Gone Rogue Games has some excellent insight into this and the board game angle) but maybe a monthly tournament seems like a nice revenue bump. I think Sorcery fits better almost as a war gaming event, something your customers can look forward to and plan ahead for. These games can take hours if you're not trying to metagame and it's always fun and memorable. I really do think that stores need to be involved in the future planning of the game because while Sorcery likely won't contest a weekly spot, they really could find a spot in biweekly/monthly events.
Also, sorry for the wall of text bullshit I'm kind of a blowhard😂

On communication/ marketing they should look how gmt games in their war gaming niche is keeping the interest with P500 series and intensive monthly updates. I trust that is really doing the trick for GMT and their community

Agree on challenges to understanding rules. I still feel that I'm just completely making up how the Artifacts are "equipped" and what happens when they are dropped. e.g. does equipping a stray artifact found on the battlefield cause the minion to tap? Also agree on Marketing. The only stores I see in SE Michigan who are carrying it are those I'd never suspect (no overlapping MTG market) or just middle-of-nowhere.

Yeah a ton of questions come up when playing the game and there are so many of them that it’s hard to find quick answers unless you’re playing with an expert. Maybe that’s to be expected until it’s more mainstream and you can go to a store and learn from other experienced players. But that is actually not practical first your average person; especially fie the middle aged demographic of sorcery. People have very limited time and need to be able to learn the rules quickly and with less effort. That’s a tough challenge. And I don’t think UA-cam videos on that is the answer either. They take too much time to. Probably needs to be a comprehensive and searchable website.

So I spoke to my LGS yesterday about the sales number for beta pre orders. 5 cases and a playmat have been pre ordered so far. I plan to buy between 2-6 more boxes+ a pre con and playmat from here, I ordered a case and a pre con from another retailer earlier as it was not certain my LGS would stock Sorcery

Marketing is most important if nobody knows of game nobody is going to buy. They need to marketed right now nothing at all. Game is dropping faster and probably fail cause of it.

I think sorcery mgmt are playing the long game and not going to get into the pitfalls of knee jerk reactions to certain segments
