HAHAHA at the end of the vid when you showed the turbo install I was thinking... Umm that looks like a 7.3 turbo not a tiny BMW one LOL...
I just rebuilt the pedestal on mine, EBPV was leaking pretty good, not anymore.
Didn't have the money to pull apart the turbo, I wanted to put new seals and a wheel on it, thankfully there wasn't a bit of slop or shaft play in it. The wheel is a bit dusted but it looks normal for the miles, I've seen far worse with half the miles.
So much easier to put a turbo in a van, such a pain to pull a engine out of a van.... I do love the doghouse access though... Good video, I really like your laid back monotone.

Great video man.. I just replaced my turbos and strait away noticed boost loss and just today I lost all boost and turbos were making a high pitched squell sound and not long after the car started blowing smoke 😭 your video might of helped but still trying to figure it out I just don't want to have to pull off turbos if that's not the issue

so can a turbo seal leak so badly it would drip out the turbo constantly when running? or is that not really a possibility?

Hi. It is possible clean the turbos and drain pipes, without removing turbos ???

  • @kiremitreski1448
    @kiremitreski1448 5 років тому +3

Impossible, simply because the "clear tape" would of burned off instantly

    Hey Turbo Lab America,
Also I've been having a Problem with my 335i N54 for 2 years now.
May be you have an Idea - I'd appreciate that!!
I've been having the Problem that my Turbos low sides are wet from oil, both, and that oil runs for some days along the drain lines and finally drops on my catalytic converter.
Result is that it starts smelling like burned oil when I halt at traffic lights for example.
I had a couple of interventions so far, including two times Turbo overhaul, last time complete ready mounted new centre cartridges, 2 times drain lines replaced with gaskets, 1 time feed line replacement with gaskets, some more times gasket exchanges as trys etc.
    It doesnt stop.
Do you have an Idea or suggestion as an expert??

It’s difficult for me to know without doing the installation or the work. I had some customers through rare that would ruin the turbo in a short time, in these cases I just refunded them the money and got the turbos back because that is what they wanted and I was better off because I can’t trust them to do the installation correctly and I get tired of doing the build for free repeatedly.
One customer added silicone to his oil feed orings which the silicone got down into the turbo and blocked the oil feed off to the thrust bearing, the turbo was ruined in less than 1 day.
One customer had new turbos prior to talking with me and the rear one got destroyed because of lack of oil because the oil feed got crimped.
On a rare occasion sometimes the thrust bearing was really wore out on the oil feed side of the bearing, it might be from the collar being too small to support the larger compressor wheel, but if that is true, I have not seen mine fail in the 5k miles at 18 psi. I think this Maybe from not using thick enough oil, I use 15w40 in the summer of up to 100 degrees and I substitute 1 quart with mystery oil. The 5w oil is okay for an aluminum engine but it won’t battle the heat in side the turbos well enough, it’s every worse when high boost is applied. I likely will drop down to 10w40 or 10w 30 for the winter. Probably 10w40 with 1 quart of mystery oil

    • @JeanKatana

@@waldemarpierzynski1449 Hi Waldemar, finally the engine got completely apart for research, after they found 8 - 10 mbars of Crankhousing pressure. Thats at least double as normal. Ventilation valve was all right and functional, so disassembly.
They found only a little dirt under a Piston ring, thats all. Engine has 80 K miles and looked pritty good for that as a whole! They also measured everything relevant - nothing unusual found.
So they build it up with new head gasket, new sump gasket, all new piston rings and also a new head ventilation valve.
So far i didnt have problems again.
Its a crap engine... 7 grands in 4 years.

Thank you for your response. I have the same issue on the one turbo. How did u check pressure in the crankcase ? My problems have deepened after the tune . Bigger boost = bigger pressure in the crankcase ?

Have any customer reviews about your n54 rebuilds?

I don't know , we built a lot of them. I put a set on my car recently. I had one set come back a month ago but he used silicone on the orings and it got into the oil feed and clogged it up blocked the oil from going into tge turbo and ruined the turbo, I gave that guy a refund. I'm still building a lot of them we have about 20 sets of cores.

My car started smoking about a week after turbos rebuilt it got really bad to where i cant drive it any more, my mechanic swears turbos are dry when he took domw pipes off, the thing is the tip of my left exhaust gets wet with oil, i tried everything and no luck. My next bet is replacing valve cover. question can a bad valve cover gasket cause no ccv? And blowby could be causing all this? I replaced breather valve and rb upgraded pcv valve and no luck so far
Any advice is highly appreciated it

+ricky recko it may help to use thicker oil too. We used 10w 30 in the all of our turbo cars at minimum, because 5 weight can pass the seals of the turbo.

Aren't you supposed to run 40 weight oil? Such as a 5w40 BMW LF1?
