    Another awesome video. I use to sell clothes and it makes so much sense to move in the same direction as you with ephemeral. I subscribed and looking forward to watching your journey.

      @@thevintagecodger Doug are you just selling postcards now?

    • @thevintagecodger
      @thevintagecodger  Рік тому

      Yes. A gentleman bought out my print ad store a few months back and I made the transition over to postcards in my ebay store. They're very similar to print ads with storage and ease of shipping. One good thing is that shipping is only 63 cents using ebay standard envelope.

    Hi Doug. Joined your channel a few weeks back. You're awesome and very informative. I'm slowly 🐌 transitioning from a non niche store into a few narrowed down niches - one of which and have a passion for is ephemera. Anyway, after watching all of your videos, I'm a bit confused regarding sizes of packaging and mailers for me to stock up on. On your "Listing on ebay video", in the description, you state 11 x 17 mailers. However, in other videos, you suggest buying the "Life" sized backing and mailers sized 11-1/8 x 14-1/4, and also suggest Stay flat mailers of 12-3/4 x 15. Any pointers or clarification would be very appreciated. Many thanks in advance. By the way, yes... I do have old LIFE magazines as well that will be gone through and portions listed. Take care and best wishes on your eBay and UA-cam venture.

      Sorry about the confusion! In all honesty, they're all one in the same. What I mean by "Life size" is a mailer large enough to fit a full page w/ backing board in. Thank you so much for the encouraging words and thanks for watching! I appreciate ya! Here is a link from amazon that maybe helpful to you.

    Great info!
    Have you ever found ads from vintage National Geograhic ads sell well? They are a little smaller pages than traditional ads?

    • @thevintagecodger
      @thevintagecodger  Рік тому +1

      I haven't personally but I know others who do process the National Geographic magazines for ads and seem to do well with them. Thanks for watching!

      I tested them last year, I listed 100 and sold 73 by year end

      Print ads of all sizes will sell, and for decent money. As long as it's vintage, has a collectible market, and priced correctly they will all sell.
      I recently purchases 75 massive newspapers from the UK which housed close to a thousand ads a piece.
      I spent 75 on the lot, but I listed the first 500 and sold over 80 of them while doing so. Size really doesn't effect value in most cases is what I'm getting at

    I will like to just throw this out there : I sell a LARGE variety of vintage items. 1940s thru the 1980s . I am PARTIAL to ephemera for sure! Easy to BUY, easy to ship - easy to store !! I tend to avoid Ads torn out of magazines ( A Coke ad from the back of a National Geographic ; for example) . There are always MANY listed - of the same ad - so why should they buy mine? So I got the notion to sell ONLY unusual ads and LOCAL to my area ads (example a neighborhood Pharmacy that closed 40 years ago , a childhood movie theatre that is no longer , etc.) So , for the past 10 days - I have been ONLY LISTING ads . Nothing else. Listed a few hundred or more ! So far - I sold 3 or 4 for $15.00 to $19.00 . My eBay sales have DROPPED down lower than I can remember in recent history ! I will get back to "normal" eBay listings (and normal sales) by the weekend - but I kinda know that "ephemera listings are 'turtle sales' -- they move very slowly". But I will be happy to see those 'turtle sales" for $19.99 & $24.00 sprinkled into my "regular sales" over the next year or 2. I TRY to avoid selling the kind of stuff that all the other sellers sell. I think "outside" of the box , mostly .

    Podtcard are fun, but it take a lot of card to make money!

      Same with print ads. They're definitely a "long tail" item to sell. They're not an item to flip quick. Thanks for watching!

    Hi! Are you selling only copies or the actual ad? Thanks!

      Hey! These are actual ads that are removed from the magazines.

    Yep,… you have to feed the machine,… algorithms,….consistently listing, even once a week,…an active store rises to the top of ebay.

    • @LannieLord
      @LannieLord 10 місяців тому

      This is 100% TRUE . You stop listing for even 10 days - your sales go way way down.
