There was a boxing gym named Jerome Gym somewhere in The South Bronx and I used to go to spar there in early 1980's. I was living upstate at the time then moved to East Brooklyn. I kind of liked the atmosphere of NY in those days. I originally came from a real slum in 1960's Japan. It was like Five Points NY in late 1800's. The Bronx used to be real nice in old days I heard. I mean like decades or 100 years ago. Check this out, this was in 60's. Imagine how it was like in 40's right after WW2. This whole city is like a Disneyland today. I don't mean to insult you or challenge you or anything like that, but I honestly felt real comfortable in NY back in 70's and 80's. To me it was like Disneyland. Everything was new to me. this video brought tears to my eyes cause former than 15 years I walk all those areas working as a volunteer in 5 different churches giving out pantry. I no longer do it cause now Im disable 2 knees replacements and no longer live in the bronx I live in New Jersey .thank you so much GBYSM BE SAFE .

My father grew up on 134th street and Willis Ave in the 50's and 60's. He never stopped talking about it. How great it was. He would be 85 but he passed. It was very territorial back then. The Italians and Irish would square off with the Puerto Ricans. Real West Side Story shit. Lol

@@katsujinkin60 yes. I spent my childhood visiting my grandparents when they moved up to 198th street and Valentine Ave in the 60s. They moved out in 1980 up to Yonkers. The area was changing and not for the better. I had some great childhood memories up in the Bronx back then.
I lived in South Bronx for about a year, about 10 years ago. I lived on Prospect and Freeman, and I’m pretty sure I was the only white person within a 20 mile radius. 😂 everybody spoke Spanish, with the exception of a few places being bilingual, or speaking English, usually at the bodegas on the street corners. With that being said, a lot of people told me that it was a dirty part of town, that it was ghetto, and dangerous… But I never had any problems there with people, I was never harassed or anything like that. Not only that, but they have the best Dominican food out there… King grill on East 169th is amazing to this day. I went out there just to get some chicken, rice and beans when I visited last fall. Still taste the same as it always has, and great bang for your buck. Everybody that lived on my block knew each other, and everyone was so nice. Treated each other like family. I enjoyed living out there, truly… It reminds me to be humble, and always treat people well, regardless of anything. We’re all just trying to get by in this world. Thanks for the upload!

I grew up in the Mitchell Houses on a E.137st and Alexander Ave. I remember the boot blacks or shoe polish booth that was on E. 138th St. And Brook Ave before the bike racks were there. And the Valencia bakery is still there. It has to be there over 50 years. And that house of worship on E. 138th St. and Brown Pl. used to be the Puerto Rican Theater.

Being a guy living in the south it's intersting to see so many streets with cars parked right next to other cars that are already parked lol because the car parked next to it is basically blocking the street. I've never seen that before. It will get you towed or get you a ticket around here in Florida

I lived in the South Bronx in 1986 for a year and I can assure you this is a vast improvement compared to then. Back then it was a dangerous wasteland. I would not have gone to live there only North Harlam was too expensive. Lovely to see a vibrant community.

I grew up in the Mitchell Houses on a E.137st and Alexander Ave. I remember the boot blacks or shoe polish booth that was on E. 138th St. And Brook Ave before the bike racks were there. And the Valencia bakery is still there. It has to be there over 50 years. And that house of worship on E. 138th St. and Brown Pl. used to be the Puerto Rican Theater.

Being a guy living in the south it's intersting to see so many streets with cars parked right next to other cars that are already parked lol because the car parked next to it is basically blocking the street. I've never seen that before. It will get you towed or get you a ticket around here in Florida

I lived in the South Bronx in 1986 for a year and I can assure you this is a vast improvement compared to then. Back then it was a dangerous wasteland. I would not have gone to live there only North Harlam was too expensive. Lovely to see a vibrant community.
