  • In today's episode I refit a propshaft to the Land Rover Freelander 2 FL2, easy job made difficult....and painful on your back, it makes no
    difference to the noise I have, so confirming the bad news.
    I also replace the broken washer fluid bottle.

    I'm impressed, I wish I had half your knowledge. I have to leave mine to the garage to fix mine.

    Great vid, not enough UK car enthusiasts doing this kind of thing. I've recently found myself with a similiar problem, constant hum, and back end skidding, rear diff bearings go and the torque applied to each wheel is inconsistent, I don't have the tools to try something like this but I took mine to a local 4x4 specialist, they replaced with a differential seal kit and also the final diff seals (for a recommended seal, slow leak). It cost me about £550. Try a creeper trolley to save the back pain ;)

      I miss working on cars so I started this channel, thanks for the comments, really appreciate it, i do have a trolley but the drive way is block pavved, so just gets annoying trying to roll about.....one day, I may make something of this and have a workshop....with a ramp......one day. Cheers.

    Excellent video ! As far as the music is concerned - at least it's an improvement ! That last one I commented on sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks !!! LOL ! Keep up the good work.

    So? Did you manage to get rid of this diff noise? What was it? I'll be changing Haldex oil, filter and diff oil tomorrow on my one. Got the same problem with droning noise at the back and want to do EU trip this month so need to fix it. Wish me luck ;)

      i have traced the noise to the diff, i will be ordering a diff soon and replacing it, I will make a video on it when i do.
      The noise gets louder on throttle, when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal it goes, and the noise doesnt change when cornering.

      @@VarleyRebuildsIn my experiance the diff would make the noise constantly? If its throttle related I would be looking elsewhere.

      @@stephencritchley3238 so what would you look at if it is not the diff

      @@maxwheeler8387 it’s almost always the diff. Well known issue on FL2. The way the Terrain Response system applies torque puts extra load on the nose bearing & it fails. Bell Engineering are probably the best source of replacement bearings, they have sourced heavier bearings.

      Mine makes a noise it’s not the diff had it checked it’s a oil leak on the ptu and gearbox quoted 6 hours to strip parts £7500 👈🏻 Land Rover dealers unbelievable that’s without labour 🤷🏼‍♂️....

    Can I ask how you managed to just shove the propshaft back into the Haldex coupling so easily? I've just changed the rear diff on mine, horrendous job on your back under the car on stands as you found. But I just could not get the cv joint back together and in place. Spent hours levering and twisting. Eventually got the bearings back in the inner cage and back into the joint but there's a bad knock there now. Diff sounds better though :/ Cheers

    Got a weird rear end noise that sounds like a deep, rubbing sound (like a tire in contact with a fender). I have standard tires. 170,000 miles 2008 LR2 HSE. The noise only happens a few seconds up to 30 seconds after vehicle begins to move forward or reverse, regardless of terrain, incline, or speed. It only makes the noise after the vehicle sits for several hours. Has anyone had this sound before? I don't think it's a differential or wheel bearing or brakes. No whining, grinding, or whirring noises at any speed. It kinda sounds like suspension clearance is limited, but all is standard and unmodified. Never off-roaded. Could there be an actuator of some kind that kicks in moments after the vehicle is put in drive?

    Can you take off rear propshaft on freelander 2 for better economy without lights coming up on dash etc?

    • @VarleyRebuilds
      @VarleyRebuilds  4 роки тому

      Yes, when i got mine the prop had been removed already, previous owner removed it to make the rear diff quieter, and doing so would also make better MPG.
