My aunt had a Rottie (Jezebelle), and when I was 5 years old, we used to go swim at her house all the time. Any time I would jump in when no adults were around, Jezzie would jump in and gently grab me by my arm and pull me out of the pool, until adults would be around. She was amazing, and even though she was not my family pet, I miss her deeply and often find myself thinking about her. Amazing breed!
We have a pool near our back patio and my Rottweiler Odin will put himself between my 2 year old daughter and the pool and will not let her get close to it unless she is with me or my wife. Completely instinctual, never taught him any of this, they are truly amazing animals that put the safety of their family above all else.
We have had rotties in our lives nonstop since 1996 and I have to say, although people tend to focus on their protection, they are the perfect family companion. If you treat them as a valued family member (like you should all dogs as they are NOT possessions but very intelligent beings) you can't ask for a better friend, and protector. They do need consistency, but they learn fast and all they want to do is make their people happy...
I have Rottweilers and I really appreciate you saying that they are not for everyone. They take a lot of consistent training, need to be very well socialised and not underestimated. With the right breeding and the right owners, I don’t believe there is a better breed either as a family dog or protection dog.

Lovely woman and great when someone with common sense and a love for a breed dedicates their time to a breed. Not because it’s popular or a money earner like so many who’ve jumped on breeds like the malinois. Simply because they have a passion for the breed.

Very interesting, thank for this interview. From my (short) experience, Rotties that don't like to be cuddled can be changed with a lot of patience and respect. My female has always growled and showed disconfort from the beginning, but with time and training, she don't feel threatened anymore when my head is near her's, and even started to like kisses. I'm keeping one and absolutely love this breed. One of the most well balanced breed in my opinion in terms of work abilities. And I can't emphasize more you must get from a reputable breeder! Preferably with a pedigree. All rotties look almost the same as puppies but they differ a lot in health, temperament and form as they grow up.
When I was in the army I served alongside Auscon, the Austrian army UN contingent. They had Rotties who were just like the dogs in the video. Off duty they were like labs but had an immediate on switch. I seem to remember they did a 2 year training course at a special military dog facility in Austria before deployment.
My Mum got her first Rott in the late 1980s, having always had Corgis. She went to Rotts because she met one at the nature reserve where I worked and was impressed with her obedience and temperament. Are Rotts intelligent? Yes, so are Corgis. Stubborn? Not as much as Corgis. Trainable? Much easier than Corgis. And like Corgis, never let a Rott become top dog. If their person is in charge, Rotts are great. Mum's were always placid and good natured, family companions who would go 'on guard' to people coming around the house until they were introduced - and then they would remember that person and bark 'hello' in future if a member of the family was in. Away from the house, no issues with people or dogs. One of Mum's was on the lead and attacked by a Golden Retriever which was off the lead. Mum let go the lead and the dog ended on his back (shoulder-barged and tripped, not bitten) with Heidi standing over him while Mum (5'2"") gave the owner a piece of her mind. Third Rott would do whistle commands at long distances. Easy to train for that: I just converted from voiced commands, which she still did. Mum had a Spaniel at the same time, which was away with the fairies until she went stone deaf. Then she'd copy the Rott and both dogs would do whistle commands at distance. Go figure....

Wish you would look into the same practices going on with the Belgian Malinois here in the US. Many breeders looking to increase their size and increase their aggression. A real same. 😢
Hi Anneka...I found your Rottweiler videos very informative. It's amazing to see how versatile these dogs are when being put to work. I also found it interesting how some breeds are used more in personal protection than others. I've also heard the Belgian Malinois and the Dutch Shepherd are used in personal protection work. Can you maybe make a video on either of these breeds to show how effective they are in personal protection and how frequently they are used compared to other breeds?
I dont agree with Malinois or Dutch herder as family protection dogs but absolutely for security or work. These 2 breeds are hyperactive and don’t do well as pets. Way better in a working environment
@@Animal-Watch GREAT VID RESPECT TO JULIE FOR HER WORK WITH THE ROTTS! U ASKED GREAT QUESTIONS AND IT WAS A FANTASTIC VID MAKES ME WANT ONE OF THER ROTTS AND A GERM SHEP , A MALE AND FEMALE LOL AM IN USA SO BE A BIT TUFF TO GET HER DOGGOS OVER HERE PROBABLY BUT NEVER SAY NEVER! THX FOR THAT VID AND U HAVE A GREAT LOVING PERSPECTIVE FOR THE PUPPERS! :)
To us probably they do but to some people they look terrifying. People cross the road when I’m with my huskies as some people think they’re wolves. If you’re used to dogs like we are, they do look adorable. I agree
@@Animal-Watch It is not all bad, he lasted 12.5 years with no major issues, with him weighing 108 lbs that was pretty good as far as i know for a dog.
I really! Feel like it's so very sad 😢💔that most people really! Don't understand the Rottweiler my hat goes off to the people that do understand and are able to teach other people about the Rottweiler
Honestly, evertmy Rottweiler I have encountered have been so gentle and friendly. The only exception was because my dog hated it and barked at it. Couldn't tell you why. My dog just barked out of nowhere
The poor health has turned me off on many of these similar breeds. It's great to see that responsible breeders are trying to fix this. Hopefully they can live consistently to 14+ years
Me and my little sister grew up with rottweilers and we never had any problems. In fact when my sister was 3 she could put her arms down the throwth of them without any growling 😅 but our father was a very good -but not professional- trainer of them. Cant wait to move in a house with a garden and have my own ❤
@@Animal-Watch yes but i would never recommend them for a first dog. You must be train them properly and never forget how dangerous an untrained dog can be. Wich is valid for all of the breeds in my opinion. Ps. Thank you for this video, it made my day ❤️
You should check out Black mouth Curs or Mountain Curs. They originated in the southern United States Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and so forth.
guy at the park had one of these, PP dog, but a big softie when it came to me for some reason, straight over to me, lies down and wants belly rubs haha.
If they tell me to choose only 2 breeds to live together with lifelong time; Turkish Shepherd (Kangal) and Rottweiler would be the only choice. Even both at the same time, if possible. Hell of a team they would make.
The only dog breed I still have slight fear of. Only because I grew up in the early to mid 90s and my walk home from school I had to cross the road at multiple points to avoid aggressive Rotties who would run out and try and bite. The people who owned them back then thankfully have moved onto other breeds like Pitbulls now. Its sad the same group of people give every dog breed they obsess over a bad name.
Have you never heard of a Rottweiler used as a farm dog working cattle and sheep plus is a friendly kind family dog as well having some protective commands
Im a fan of the Rott's bite grip..No,im not a fan of "bite force" coz for me that's a myth lol..IMO,the rottie has the best bite grip among other dogs👍
It’s actually not. The larger the skull and jaw, the harder the pressure. A Rottweiler bites down harder than skinny mouthed dogs. Mastiffs crush harder than say a Malinois
Dogue de Bordeaux, Kangal, bully kutta. I like how you had to say close 3times. That's why Ill never have one. In the 80-90's, the breed was everywhere. No thanks.
Hi I have a small request to make. Please do a video on Native American Indian dogs. They are not the same as North American Indian Wolfdogs. They are underrated but one of the wolfiest looking breeds never talked upon, along with the Kugsha. Please please please make a video on them, they look so wolfy!

Wish you would look into the same practices going on with the Belgian Malinois here in the US. Many breeders looking to increase their size and increase their aggression. A real same. 😢
That is a real shame
13.12 ❤️❤️❤️ I bloody love dogs, great work guys…. 🙌🏻

@@Animal-Watch ❤️🙌🏻
Beutiful , strong , and
capable breed!! I am lucky enough to own 2 rottweilers and 1 Czech Wolfdog
Lovely combo 🙌💥
@@Animal-Watch Okay... appreciate your thoughts and opinions.
@@Animal-Watch GREAT VID RESPECT TO JULIE FOR HER WORK WITH THE ROTTS! I DONT AGREE THAT ROTTYS ARE MOST VERSATILE DOG U HAVE TO GIVE THAT TO THE GERM SHEPS OR MAL'S BUT THE ROTTS ARE GREAT DOGS AND HERS APPEAR TO BE FANTASTIC! :)
Wowwwwww!!!! Amazing 👍👍😍amazing
I disagree with her saying they look like more of a deterrent (as a breed), they have the cutest smooshy faces!
To us probably they do but to some people they look terrifying. People cross the road when I’m with my huskies as some people think they’re wolves. If you’re used to dogs like we are, they do look adorable. I agree
@@Animal-Watch people think my Tam is a wolf also 🤣😍
Love it
Rottweilers very nice breed❤❤❤❤❤
Yes they are
dogs know body language there lives depend on it. and fight or flight is universal
Rottweilers really are a WHOLE lot of dog
Man's best friend ( especially in your case))🥰
I had a half rot, bullmastiff, lab mix and that was the healthiest and good friend i have ever had, i miss him.
Aw bless 🫶🙏
@@Animal-Watch It is not all bad, he lasted 12.5 years with no major issues, with him weighing 108 lbs that was pretty good as far as i know for a dog.
I really! Feel like it's so very sad
😢💔that most people really! Don't understand the Rottweiler my hat goes off to the people that do understand and are able to teach other people about the Rottweiler
Thanks there's so little on UA-cam about training Rottweilers let alone training security and protection
You are welcome 🙏
Honestly, evertmy Rottweiler I have encountered have been so gentle and friendly. The only exception was because my dog hated it and barked at it. Couldn't tell you why. My dog just barked out of nowhere
Very interesting 🥰
I wouldn't mess with him especially on Friday the 13th 🦴🦴🦴
😂
The poor health has turned me off on many of these similar breeds. It's great to see that responsible breeders are trying to fix this. Hopefully they can live consistently to 14+ years
That would be the goal 💥🙌
Me and my little sister grew up with rottweilers and we never had any problems. In fact when my sister was 3 she could put her arms down the throwth of them without any growling 😅 but our father was a very good -but not professional- trainer of them. Cant wait to move in a house with a garden and have my own ❤
All I’ve heard is good things about this breed. Solid dogs
@@Animal-Watch yes but i would never recommend them for a first dog. You must be train them properly and never forget how dangerous an untrained dog can be. Wich is valid for all of the breeds in my opinion.
Ps. Thank you for this video, it made my day ❤️
Nice Powerfull breed for police dogs and garddog but my two Dobermann Pinchers 45 years back in time were also good as garddog !🤠

There's no better guard dog than a well trained Doberman.
You should check out Black mouth Curs or Mountain Curs. They originated in the southern United States Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and so forth.
Best breed on the 🌏
Uhh no not top 10
Very brilliant breed 👍
Beautiful dogs. If the world ever runs out of Rhodesian Ridgebacks I'll get myself a Rottie :)
They are amazing
guy at the park had one of these, PP dog, but a big softie when it came to me for some reason, straight over to me, lies down and wants belly rubs haha.
They are gorgeous
When I retire I plan on having a nice Rottweiler and a Kankal
Rottweilers are the best ❤ but it does take someone who is able to handle powerful breeds . Not for a first time owner
If they tell me to choose only 2 breeds to live together with lifelong time;
Turkish Shepherd (Kangal) and Rottweiler would be the only choice.
Even both at the same time, if possible. Hell of a team they would make.
0:47 " loyalty unmatched "...... Ummm... have you ever heard of the Doberman?
He is the next episode..
I have. It’s in my first episode
Mine is German and Russian and she is beautiful 😍
Best breed ever i have a 7 year old male on the lighter side and height but he can be wicked if he doesnt know you or if you seem threatening to my new 5 month old male...the 5 month old male is more reserved but is already showng his protective personality and is already up to my 7 year olds shoulder and has paws twice his size ....7 year old is called fluffy and 5 month old is called rane
Thankyou for sharing 🙏💥
The rottweilers I met can be very sweet
