When this conflict began, the Ukrainians had an 800,000 man army that was extensively trained and equipped by the western powers for over a decade. It was without a doubt, the largest and most effective fighting force in Europe. It took the Russians some time to bring their forces up to speed, but once they did, the effects were devastating. Now, very few of those original Ukrainian soldiers are still in battle. The Russians have definitely accomplished the greatest military feat of the 21st century.

When Russian soldiers leave a Ukrainian village or town, they leave it practically intact. But when NATO-led Ukrainian forces quit a place, they leave it in ruins with virtually no structure standing despite claiming that these towns and villages belong to Ukraine. Doesn't this say something about the character of the two armies involved in the Ukraine conflict and the logical status of the territorial claims made by both armies? I'm told from a source I find very reliable that Ukraine's "elite units" are being continuously bounced around the battlefield from pillar to post not so much to prevent a Russian breakthrough but more to prevent Ukranian conscripts from retreating or attempting surrender. Unfortunately a Russian artillery shell knows no difference between Ukranian special forces and conscripts who only want to run away.

Based on the US having military bases all over the world? Size won't matter when you are spread out thin. Based on the US having lots of outdated weapon systems? The Ukrainian war theater has discredited Western military armaments to the max. Based on the US operating a military doctrine which is guaranteed to fail in modern warfare? I would think an objective man like Alexander who pays close attention to facts would observe the shortcomings of the US military might against an adversary like the Houthis. That the American establishment backed down from going to war against Iran punctures a hole in the US military claim to unmatched dominance. Military might is not just reckoned in terms of size, but in consideration of actual deterrent and offensive relevance in the modern combat theater against a peer or a near-peer military force. In that regard, the US military has no contemporary credential to support Alexander's claim.

I think the productive capacity of China (and Russia) should give the GAE paused. US weapons (admittedly older gen weapons) haven’t been performing as well and also insanely overpriced, China and Russia can mass produce solid modern weapons for a fraction of the cost.
That said, the US military is nothing to sneeze at, particularly in a total war scenario. Most of the weapons being sent to Ukraine are older generations and there’s probably a lot of highly classified capabilities that doesn’t make headlines, both crazy weapons and space and cyber warfare. And beyond that, the US still has tremendous power through their control of banking and the dollar . I hate what the federal reserve stands for (our whole fiat regime has made everything fake) but that doesn’t mean it still isn’t powerful… at least for now.
As brittle as this war is making the US seem, I don’t think any nation state is eager to go to full scale war with America. And as an American, I truly hope our leaders aren’t this stupid (but am not holding my breath)

I can attest that back in mid 70's when I was deeply involved in U.S. Soviet business relations with U.S.-Soviet Trade and Economic Council, which was , accredited by State Dept. when Kissinger was Sec. of State, Soviets did not walk away from Detente when Jackson Vanek amendment was passed by Congress mandating Jewish emmigration. However, when Nixon/ Kissinger opened trade relations with China it caused great concern with Soviets due to their border wars with China at the time. Essentially after that, Detente was dead
The Chinese navy is a green water navy and it doesn’t seek a blue water navy. Even so it’s purely defensive and more powerful within its territorial waters than any fleet the west could muster. I believe the notion that the US remains the preeminent military power in the world is not correct because 1) for the foreseeable future the US will have a shortage of ground troops; 2) modern missile technology has made naval surface vessels irrelevant; 3) as Brian Berletic points out, the military procurement system in the US is highly disadvantageous; and 4) Russia has a huge advantage in both offensive and defensive missile technology which will persist for at least 20 years.
