Thank you! Your video helped me locate a humming issue that was driving me crazy. Completely eliminated the issue. Thanks for the straight-forward tutorial!
I have this same problem. HH config with two on-off switches for the pickups, also 1 volume 1 tone. Ground and hot does not touch but i wired the grounds of the pickups to the grounds of the switches. When I touch any metal part the noise dims, when I touch the neck pickup the noise goes up and when I touch the bridge it stays the same. Could it be a faulty pickup?
Just tried this, I get noise when I thouch it regardless. The only difference I notice is when touching the side of the cap that has the hot wire on it you het a volume increase. If you touch the side that has the ground you don't. I think this is nonsense, you probably touch the cap at an angle so it touches the hot clipped side which threw you off. In reality that migrates with the clip. The caps work in any orientation, if they didnt the manufacturer would say so.
Mine has 4 wiers bridge homes when you touch it neither pick up works in neck or bridge position only in middle and they both work every time you hit a string you get feedback I have the wiring diagram I don’t see anything wrong with it
I got a PRS SE custom 24-08 last week and when I touched that screw to the side of pickups I got horrible feedback. I sent it back and received the new one only to have it do the exact same thing, maybe worse. Is this a known thing to happen with this line of PRS?
There are two toggle switches on that guitar, and my guess is that at least one of them is a series parallel like on this guitar. If you do phase or series/parallel, it necessitates a floating ground which can cause a crackling or humming problem. See my recent video on the CME Jazzmaster.
@Drews Guitar Shop Thanks! I just got it back from a guitar tech yesterday, and it's better, but it's still an issue. I'll show him this comment tomorrow.
I’ve got a Gibson Les Paul trad pro v and I get a hum when I touch my iPad screen while I’m holding my guitar. The circuit is way too complex for me to mess with. No of my other guitars does it.
Knowing your background, I'll bet you have! It's all audio circuits that will do this. In the case of the amps and stuff that you were doing back in the day, this sort of thing can happen as the result of acidic caps, burned up semiconductors and all sorts of other more complex causes. I'll bet that took patience.
Thank you! helped me a lot solving the issue

I have this problem touching my bridge pickup. I just bought EMG solderless kit. I can not identify the problem 😢
Great video thanks. So the black plate of the pickup should be grounded, too, right ?

So only the hot will make its path through the switch then pots (wiper) and finally to the tip of the connector, isn't it?

I have the problem that when i put my finger on the poles when the pickup is activated then it hums but maybe thats normal? I have no pickup cover.
Sounds like a floating ground.
@@DrewsGuitarShop what is that?

How would this work on a 4-wire humbucker? Mine buzzes WITHOUT me touching it but stops when I do.
Still new to wiring! Help please!
If you are in Seattle I would be happy to set you up with an appointment, otherwise there is info about consultation services in the description.
when i saw you touch the tip of the plug, i put the two together. i've heard that hum in a bunch of places. :/
