This type of caps has no orientation. Those are non polarized capacitors.
Savarez for more experienced players and Augustine for less experienced as it will hide your mistakes slightly better. Savarez will amplify a harsher attack that most non pros have. Such as myself haha.
So helpful, thank you!
Thanks, for some reason, you are the ONLY guy on entire internet with this solution! I can't get any beewax like this in Thailand, can I use vasoline or some other kind of grease that's easy to find?
Very helpful video, thank you.
Drews Guitar Shop, what dowel and spanish? Do a video on those?
Drew, thanks fir a great review. just bought a 1965 G-17 in almost perfect condition for its age. I paid $344 for it. I'm never selling this guitar. I need to get a hard shell case for it. The original case is not suitable to store this instrument.
The Yamaha fg830 CE that I own is just an all around fun guitar to play. I have an arrow case with it that is very light so can carry it easily if I need to play at church or just take to the livingroom. The sustain I have when playing now that I have a bone nut and saddle as well as ebony bridge pins, is very impressive. I’m blind and I don’t use a pick to play, just my fingers. My country and bluegrass gospel playing really works well on this guitar. I also use 1356 gage medium elixir strings that also work very well. Grab a yamaha if you don’t already have one!!!
Tinko boro niyan leko libe lobo
Sanded the saddle a bit and now it's just a dream to play. What a guitar for the money.
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thanks for this. I just built an ES style semi-hollow with a Trapeze tailpiece and could not find the buzz. This is it. Not sure which method I'll use, but great to know the beeswax is an option!
The serial number starts with the month then year of build. Mine is 11/74
In SG custom 3 pick up with the same toogle switch how wiring?which pick up combination Will be in output?..thank you.
Excellent video
Very cool video. I have one of these guitars that originally belonged to my dad. It started pulling apart when I was a kid and I drug it around with me for decades as it slowly fell apart. Finally had it restored by the late Scott Morgan here in Maryland. He did an amazing job addressing essentially every issue you mentioned early on in the video down to the braces that had fallen off inside the guitar and even made a couple new ones to replace ones that were missing. I also had him scallop the braces just to see if it made a difference in sound quality. He added little feet to the floating bridge and also painted a matching binding on the back. The guitar was a complete mess and he brought it back to life. Can I ask how much yours sold for? Looks like the link isn’t up anymore.
i think this video might have made me dumber. I'm going back to Susan Gardener's channel.
Why an I looking at a blanket for the last 2 min. 45 sec of your video?
Thanks! Why don’t they just mark + and - on the capacitors?
Mind your beeswax 😂
I got rid of my Sung IL bridge on an LTD EC400VF for a locking Tonpros and a Gotoh aluminum tail and w SD JB and 59 it sounds better than my stock LP Studio now w such a better for me thin u very slender neck compared to a 50s Gibson neck. Couldnt be happier w a singlecut guitar.
Brilliantly explained. Thank you.
Hey great video! Question, with Martin having forward shifted X bracing do you think the nut and saddle swap would turn out sounding good? I’m looking at the 2025 new D-28’s and there are no left hand versions that I see yet. Also, if I sell it or give to the kids in the future do you think having it be right handed would be worth the sacrifice on native orientation of the guitar? Thanks
Drew, do you still recommend aliphatic resin (Titebond) for regluing tops?
After years of only using steel strings, it was weird to pick up my new classical guitar and play it. Thanks for the tips!
As an experienced refinisher I can tell you that mixing amber (Orange) shellac and white shellac is just fine. You should test your shading before you go ahead and do the whole job.
I've used them soldering the orange cap with the writing, left to right, to earth...most people use them either way but they can swell & leak as you state, i use hi-fi grade, small for Polypropylene caps, with 5% tolerance & a 4K7 1% resistor, i use the Fender Greasebucket tone control set up, 2 caps & a resistor, 0.1uf & 0.022uf or 0.047 & a 4K7 resistor...i would not recommend using electrolytic caps... interesting information, well demo'd, most people can hear only a tiny difference, i built loudspeakers for years where we build passive x-overs...i just follow the same rules, the best components i can afford without paying silly money, CTS (8% tolerence they claim) 250K Linear solid brass shaft pots, they are very good quality.... Polypropylene caps are only £15- £20 for a mixed batch of 10...gives me peace of mind using the best i can....
Interesting. Never heard of this. I usually wire my cap in that way (to the ground on the tonepot) Now I wanted to do a 50’s wiring. My diagram says to wire it to the leg where you wired yours but then to the volume. Does the same principal apply? The earth wire of the cap will go to the tone pot leg? About time for me to learn a thing or two. My friend always makes drawings like that too. So thats familiar. Electronics are a big unknown to me. I follow the lines on a schematic and hope it works 😅 Ordered some pots and caps.
What brand bridge did you use?
Do you need an intonated classical saddle? Nylon strings behave differently. It's why you can't bend notes.
Thank you for walking us through this. Subscribed
How sounds this guitar. I love ultra low frets. In the future I think to build a guitar with this frets
no way i'm not doing that it will end up a wall hanger
I was thinking about doing this to my vintage style strat. Thanks for the tips and reassurance!
Heres your fix dont buy martin x. buy eastman. Handcrafted quality All solid wood Instruments
But.... The set up cost more than the guitar! 🪵
Works great!!🎉 Thankss❤
Great explanation. Thanks!
The fret board is made of richlite, also a composite material.
kct é so um capacitor, quanto tempo perdido num compotente tão banal..kkkkkkkkkkk
The martin fanatics will love the brand even if it is a full plastic guitar. Martin plastic guitars are comin folks, And you're gonna love it!!
You dont have to buy them. People choose to because they lile them.
I guess you’d add a rosewood veneer to the sides of the saddle if it was too thin? Ever done it? Do you have to zero the saddle for intonation?
Thank you! You saved this Martin D28 that I was about to butcher.
Bipolar capacitors do not have an orientation. This sounds like BS.
Non-purment lock tight works great! Thanks 🤘
Thanks Drew, I have an FGX 830 cutaway, but there not solid back and sides, they are Laminate Rosewood, it's just that You said in add. The B/S are solid, but no, Sorry you were wrong, there fantastic guitar's true, but solid top, only, kind regards
You can also use painters tape on the back side of the hole and place it on a block of wood so it will not tear out and drill it out with a drill press I have done this several times without tear out. But your way is safer if you have a reamer .
Thank you for sharing. I live in Vermont now my home state but I lived out there when I was in the military Ft. Lewis. I do miss Washington! I stayed out there for years until 1999 then I up rooted and moved back home. Got back into playing again, and I am still home.
The new x series guitars are really nice guitars to play i have high end guitars but would have no problem adding 1 of the new x series guitars many improvements on the old series
My bandmate has played one for 20 years now. It sounds fine, but now it has the back separation problem. A luthier was able to fix it, but can’t guarantee the work. She’s looking for a new guitar now, something all solid wood.
