Cleaning Tuners and Other Metal Hardware
I have a question... would it be possible to raise the nut/zero fret to be slightly higher than the rest of the frets? That way the string could be in a straight line from the nut all the way to the bridge. If you did this on a straight neck, wouldn't you have two perfect parallel lines?
I wish I've seen this before buying my 5-string mikro very recently and finding out the exact same problem... I also snapped a string trying to intonate it so I can't return it anymore... Thank you for the video and explanation! At least now I have something to try 😭
So after wax treatment you leave the retaining wire off, correct?
Augustine is very nice music flows well less harsh nice tone of of the old days of segovia and I use both savarez do similar types as well.
Verbose beyond belief. I lost interest before you got to the point.
lol Had done some research and already ordered Alice tuners for my 3/4 classical guitar (I have large hands for a woman, but I'm short. A full sized guitar is just too damn big). Came today and used your tips to replace the old. Worked great, much, much thanks!!
Neck reset for sure on this ..ua-cam.com/users/shortsYcAfcOjsJ-U?si=f0jEOjTLHS06ixd2
The neck is extremely heavy too. I was interested in this guitar (without knowing much about the materials used) and was immediately disturbed by how unbalanced it was.
Thank you! bought some tuners without realizing they were slotted and thought I had been scammed. It was rough but thanks to you my guitar is stringed.
Thank you.
I’m thinking I’ll just get a roller saddle matic. I’m keeping the roller matic if I sell my gibson tho
As he rightly points out, I just tested 6 of them and there is no correlation with the lettering, its just random. Thanks Drews Guitar Shop
Interesting 🤔 , I've been pushing pieces of stiff foam down in the open areas around bridge saddle adjuster screws ..
Same here you saved my Gibson advanced jumbo.
A capacitor that has no polarity has actually an "orientation"!? 😅 Or your just trying to solve a mystery.. what if it works for you?
Sorry, but I noticed zero difference. I have the FG-830 and I'll just leave it as is. This guitar has phenomenal sustain as it is.
ive had 160 180 365 s 830 but when i turn bout 18 i think i went martin i bought d18 d 28 d42 i guess i just like guitars
Hi to all. I have recently had a bone nut and saddle installed on my Yamaha fg830 CE. This change along with my ebony bridge pins ‘really makes a difference in sound. I will be using my guitar soon at church to do Joy to the World for our Christmas program. I know my guitar will sound very good. If someone had to pick up there first guitar, they couldn’t go wrong with a Yamaha 830.
Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤
Not sure if the owner of this instrument is fit to own any other guitar.
awesome bro, thanks for share ;)
This right here is my favorite stuff lol! I could listen to someone who knows their shit talk about minutiae forever 🙃
Thanks, Drew. A beautiful sound before and after. Probably the best $350 acoustic guitar in the current market.
Funny, the CME EP Jazzmaster I got was hands down the worst fretwork I've ever had in a FMIC guitar, and that goes back to the 80s and early Squier Affinities. It was absolutely terrible.
Issue I have is that during the winter when the radiators are on is that the humidity goes down big time. Then during the summer it can go up to 70
What would the main differences be between the FG 160-1 and the FG 180 J? It seems I could get my hands in one of these. Very similar price around 240 usd, Thanks.
So its normal for the distance between the string and fret board to increase as you go toward the 12 fret. I think. All i know is that the easiest playing guitar i ever had was a Gretsch Corvette solid body. And the reason it was easy to play is because the strings were closer to the fret board all the way down the neck and hence requiring less finger pressure. My Gretsch was stolen but i could never find another instrument that didn't have the strings really high off the board at the 12th fret making it torcher on my fingers to press hard enough to get a clear tone. I just bought a yamaha fg 75 acoustic and the strings are very high off the neck at the 12th fret making it qiute frankly a nightmare to play. So its impossible to have a uniform distance from strings to fret board all the way down the neck. With my Gretsch i only had to rest my fingers on the fret board to get clear tones. I haven't found another instrument that was the same.
Perfect! Thanks for taking the time to explain this. EMI on my re-wired Gretsch hb is killing me slowly. Gonna try your suggestions.
Thank you good video bro, just got my new tuners from amazon and I'm finna put them on right now easy day.
That bridge is actually on backwards
those little knobs are pretty cute
Very helpful. Thank you!
And watch it sterilize your sound...
Thank you❤
The tip around 14:51 is a great tip I wished I knew at one time before I learned the hard way lol. You obviously learned the hard way as well i see. Thankfully it was on my own guitar and not a customer so I just dealt with a couple of them being a little off. Adds character. Or thats how I cope with it anyway haha
I have this problem touching my bridge pickup. I just bought EMG solderless kit. I can not identify the problem 😢

Wow, I recently started storing bridge pins just like you store screws!
Super helpful! This topic may seem simple but I had a hard time finding a professional process until this video. Thank you!
A herd of cattle can do less damage than your customers dude! The problems listed here have nothing to do with Martin!
High pressure laminate...nothing but "formica"...how in the world could a company like martin stoop so low...there's way too many nice all wood guitars out there for less money...I was sold one as a "koa" wood top, sides and back by one of the online stores...it was sent back immediately after I unzipped the gig bag...musicians friend apologized for the lack of knowledge of their salesperson...fake wood is not for me!
THANK YOU
Cool. Not directly related, but kinda.... I've recently been dealing with an almost cocked wah sound that I hear through my amps when playing at home using my pedals, but it's not there at the band room. It's not overwhelming the sound in general, but it's noticable at lower volumes. I'm chalking it up to the old and, most likely, not up to code wiring of the building I'm living in.
Hi I bought the FG830 and it sounds great. I would like to use nuts and a slice of TUSQ. Can you tell me the exact dimensions?
The high E string is a pain in the backside, you have to progressively tune it daily until it's tuned up, don't expect it to be in tune for the first time coz it will definitely break
Looks like an idea for a guitar that was not well thought out. No way they didn't know about this problem when they marketed these guitars.
i didn't realize lacquer didn't strongly bond with materials used in instruments. it kind of reminds me how i have to use certain glues with certain materials--for example, when using e6000 around styrofoam in sculptures, i have to create an isolating layer of paper mache and pva glue.
what tuners are they? did they fit or did you need to ream?
What is the product you are using? Also, not to be super critical, but your hand blocked your work most of the time
