Julie thanks for showing photos and examples of what works and not in a bedroom. Loved it. What can we do if we have the same matching pieces in our bedroom? It's a high end set and can't go purchase a new one. Any suggestions?
Julie thanks for the idea of placing furniture into a different room. In my case i need the mirror dressser and a 2nd dresser to store my husband's and my personal items. Not to mentioned my other rooms are already furnished. Can you have a video presentation for those individuals who own a bedroom set of the same pieces on how decorate it? Thank you again for your response.
I would love if you could show us a picture of a bedroom and tell us all the mistakes and different ways you would make it better. Really pick it apart. You could even do it for someone in real life (of course someone who asked for your help). It’s really nice to see rooms that are already beautiful and perfect but it’s more educational if we see one that isn’t and you can walk us through what you would do to make it better
When you discuss design mistakes in any room, please mention where the eye looks when it walks into a room. How high up a painting should start from the floor or how close it should be to the ceiling, what size wall should or should not have a certain size decoration or artwork. Do you have rules for shelving? I'd like to know what are your recommendations for a small gallery. What to do with a chimney that is going straight up through a room in an old house. There are so many things I say have to ask, but I'll stop there because I don't want you to get tired of how much I love your show.
Covering artwork height in the next living room mistakes video. I have a gallery wall video in my playlist now. Also a few shelving videos in the organization playlist. I had a chimney shoot up into my walk in closet and took up over 4 square feet of valuable real estate. You have to prioritize what’s more important, the fireplace or the space. (I got rid of the chimney, duh 😆) Hope I covered all your ?s in this one Sugar! Keep em coming and thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
@@RogeriusRex I agree. I have a bedroom set made of reclaimed wood, and it’s helpful for transforming the room’s personality with accessories of any color, texture, etc.

Wow!! I really needed this video. Well, I need all your videos! I learn so many ways to make my house more functional and beautiful. i really love the idea to use runners alongside the bed. Think vertical storage like tall cabinets and bookshelves when you lack space. Use walls for hooks, racks, anything you can free off the floor would help tremendously. For the guest room, I would source a daybed with trundle and look for a small writing desk vs. a standard size. Gets the job done and leaves room for your craft station!
Interesting video Juli, please can you do a video on small apartment bedrooms that doubles as a bedroom and an office since we are now working from home most people don't have the luxury of having a separate office.
My recommendation is to move your WFH office setup outside of the bedroom. Living/ dining is ideal so you can separate a place of rest from your place of work/ active energy. I touched on this topic in the source and shop online video, check it out for more tips ☺️
Great video and series. My bedroom set is matchy-matchy. I picked it as a house warming gift from my parents a long time ago. At that time I would have never thought to buy separate pieces. Its still in great shape and can't justify getting rid of it at the expense of buying something else. Its dark furniture and I have the walls painted a light color, adding light color cellular shades, may frame with light blackout curtains and have switched the bedding by adding strong neutrals. I'm looking for a new light fixture to replace the very old and rickety ceiling fan. I'll keep furniture changes in mind as I settle into my new space.
Great tips and perfect timing as my bed arrived today. Start with the basic needs then add is perfect and I am one who prefers an organic look. I would love a video on how to decorate high unevenly angled living room walls.

Julie, this series is amazing!! Just bought my second home and I am loving the process of expression through design. Working on the bedroom now and having trouble picking out a nightstand. Julie, this was a great video!! I loved the detailed explanations you provided. Super needful! If you do have a 'matchy matchy' bedroom set, what are some ways to change it up w/o having to remove pieces from the room. Would up cycling them be an acceptable design move? I don't usually get a response to my questions, but I thought I'd ask anyways🤷🏾♀️😌
I'm no Julie but I hope she answers your question. I think that might be the most common mistake of them all. I'm guilty of it too. But they are very much quality pieces. One thing I did is buy a new bed since that's the focal point of the room. That really helped. Maybe swap out some pieces from another bedroom. But I don't see anything wrong with the upcycle.
...or you could sell a piece or two of the matching set and use the $$ to get a similar piece that has the same functionality for you, but a different & complimentary look that would make it look more designer done. :) Good luck!
Thank you for watching Tiarra! I hope you go back to your previous threads, I’ve responded to you often, I feel like I know you now 😉 I always advise my clients to keep what they love most from the set- either the bed or the nightstands. Use the other pieces for a guest bedroom or sell them as a set (Since those who are not too discerning about interior design will prefer the set over separate pieces) Hope this helps! ☺️
Hi Julie. I am about to build, so your series is perfect tining. I have limited mobility and low vision. I would love to see tips on stair rails, step rise & tread, ramp slopes, dimmable lighting etc. Thanks!
I am watching all your videos lately and I love your style and advise . I loved the den shui series and this design mistakes and the awkward space series . Thank you for all these lovely vidoes
Love this series so far! Discovering that I have pretty good design intuition. Thanks Julie! Would love to hear thoughts on how to design for less than ideal home layouts. The one room in my home that I have never been happy with the flow, is the living room. It’s long and narrow.
Try breaking up space with smaller seating groups Emily! Check out my dream space series, particularly the episode on scale and proportion for more inspiration
This is a good video. I like to have plenty of room in my bedroom. I have my headboard on a wall that is next to the large bathroom. There is just making this so nice We have shutters I can open during the day so the plant will have light.
Hi Julie! We are buying a new home. I am looking forward to decorating...especially a restful bedroom for my night-working, day-sleeping husband. Thanks for the what not to dos...I gained some inspiration from your pictures. Thanks for the content!
Trying to not be offended that I apparently “put no thought into my design” because I have a matching bedroom set when I literally can’t stop thinking about how to design my bedroom 😅
I have a beautiful set and my hubby would have a fit if I moved the nightstands into the guest room. Plus they don't match that room decor. Oh well! I love the ideas but this one, I will pass until I am willing to alter them to fit somewhere else.
i think designers should add an addendum to the 'dont do matching set furniture': its a good place to start for people like us who moved into a new place and needed furniture that fits the space and doesnt clash of course we want personal spaces that have character/expression, but that takes time. furniture sets were our salvation, especially when you get a big discount for buying as a set
I bought a matchy set about 14 years ago. I still love it but don’t like how they all matches. I’ve also had the same bedspread for about 11 years. Wanting to update and considering a DIY to change the look of them since they are sturdy, real wood pieces that have already survived 5 moves.
Sometimes we hold onto pieces because they’re so well made, but not necessarily our style Karlie. If the set still speaks to you, keep it together in the home, but just break it up from room to room. Maybe the bed and dresser in the primary room and the nightstands with another frame in a secondary bedroom.
Hi, I am a design nut and was happy to see that there is only one « mistake » in my bedroom: my bed is 6’ wide and leaves only a 2’ space next to it. However, I will always prioritise comfort over design and will not purchase a smaller bed just for looks. I got two small round side tables to act as night stands and it does not look crowded.
🙏 thanks. A quick question- most bedroom pics dont seem to show wer the wardrobe should be positioned.. According to f s. wats a goid place for it? Also if old time cupboards r there, shld one have like a full cover over it? Thanks
We are doing several of these. 1 window treatment on one of the 2 windows. Bed in front of a window. But the only other option is the wall our room shares with the living room. 🤷♀️ About the only thing we've got right, right now is not having matching furniture. Lol But in my defense, we just moved and left some things behind like the bed frame. Or have not had the extra funds to buy like an area rug. We have been in the house for 7 months and are getting ready to try and fix up this place. First thing I want fixed is the front porch for the safety of my 5 kids, but the first room I want to do is the master. So we have a nice place to go after working on the rest of the house. For all the help I need I don't think this venue will be enough. Lol, but thank you for this video. It has helped some and I'm trying to look around the internet for more things to help me out. Be blessed
Design is not a race to the finish line Danielle. Prioritize the rooms you need most and allow the rest to evolve with you and your growing needs. By that time, you will find the perfect pieces that fit your style and budget 🙌🏻
Ummm I may be guilty of more than one thing, but I am getting better and excited to keep going! I will give myself credit on having the right headboard and lighting. Wamsutta has been my favorite sheets for 20 years, it was love at first touch. It’s the only brand I will buy! I am buying a set of white sheets now after hearing your recommendation. I’m just so prone to bad luck I’ll probably get a bloody nose randomly & stain them! No I’m kinda kidding. I will banish that thought & I can add my blues with my fav zippered duvet and pillows. Thanks for another awesome video Julie!
I have matchy matchy furnishings. I have work out equipment in there too😭😭😭 my window treatments are blinds I have been procrastinating to get curtains😭😭😭 This video feels like therapy. I need to get my bedroom together. I honestly have enough storage with the dresser and can get rid of clothes I dont wear. I really need that dresser for extra storage in the dining room and I think it could work as a buffet with a paint color change. You have me thinking it the measurement work. I need to get the work out equipment out too, I walk past it and feel defeated every time I DONT WORKOUT that day. Your right, the bedroom should be designed to rest.
Lol! A little at a time, you'll get there. Start with your bedroom first, then you'll have a room you can relax in when the rest of the house is overwhelming. Next the bathroom because it's small. Then the kitchen because you have it make it practical and a workhorse.
Moving the workout equipment out will free up so much space mentally and literally Stacey! Start with a plan, write it down, and check the items off as you complete them one by one! You’ll build momentum and confidence with a great design plan. You got this 🙌🏻
My bed is different, but my mirrored furniture is an heirloom. I have nightstands, a dresser, and a chest. My bed is velvet, gray, and huge. I moved my dresser into the hall leading to my bathroom, across from my closet. I love the way the flow goes from one area to another.
Julie you’ve inspired me again - I have plain white roller blinds and suddenly I see I should change to floor to ceiling curtains which would look so much softer and just as convenient - thank you again 😀👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love the videos . So helpful! Not sure what to place about bed . I have headboard and thinking wether I should just leave it and not place anything above the headboard

I finished my bedroom. I did make the one mistake. My end tables are too low but it's all I can do for now. Thank you for all your ideas and advice. I was completely lost at the beginning but now, the rooms looks great. A coastal retreat that I actually enjoy being in.
Going to search your other videos to see if you’ve covered lamp height, since I like to read in bed. Also size. I have a small room and getting new small nightstands to make the room more in proportion but my lamps may be overpowering. I love your style and your tips Julie.

Very helpful video, highlighted many of the mistakes I have been making! Reevaluating my curtains now, and definitely need to add more texture and break up the dresser/nightstand set. Thanks!
Hi Julie. I know you like white crisp bedlinnen. So do I. My best ever brand is actually Ikea s Ofelia Vass. Good thick cotton wowen with structure for a reasonal price! I use a silk pillowcase that covers the structured (good for my hair).
My favorite bedsheets, hands down, are bamboo. And I have tried pretty much everything else, from high thread count egyptian cotton, to flannel, to satin, to silk, to microfiber (EWWWWWW). Bamboo keeps body temperature more even throughout the seasons (warm in winter, cool in summer) and stays cleaner longer. I live in an area of extreme temperatures (desert southwest) and since I found bamboo, I've been able to get rid of all of the aforementioned sheets, which has reduced my need for linen storage dramatically.
Hi Julie. I have a very small masters bedroom. We have a queen bed but we will probably upgrade to king. We do need the bed space, but the walking distance around will be reduced to around 20 inches.

Thanks!
Great ideas for future videos Gayle, I’ll add these to my list 👍🏻 Thank you for watching!
Loving your channel. You pack a lot of advice into every episode! Thank you!
Thank you for watching Rebekah! 🙏🏻✨
I am watching all your videos lately and I love your style and advise . I loved the den shui series and this design mistakes and the awkward space series . Thank you for all these lovely vidoes
Thank you for watching and the support Dilnaz! 🙏🏻☺️
A part from loving your skillshare, I love your lovely soft makeup on your beautiful face.🥰
Thank you for watching Eva 🙏🏻☺️ I love playing with different looks
Thank you Julie! Thanks to this video, I've made two goals - purchasing just the right area rug and decluttering my bedroom (too many books).
Two steps closer to your dream bedroom Deborah! 🙌🏻
This is a good video. I like to have plenty of room in my bedroom. I have my headboard on a wall that is next to the large bathroom. There is just making this so nice We have shutters I can open during the day so the plant will have light.
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
I'm stuck in the 70's and I can't get out! I love matchy matchy...
Oh don’t listen to me then Thomasean 🙌🏻😉
Its ok to be match your belongings
Love matchy matchy too 😊🤗🥰
Hi Julie! We are buying a new home. I am looking forward to decorating...especially a restful bedroom for my night-working, day-sleeping husband. Thanks for the what not to dos...I gained some inspiration from your pictures. Thanks for the content!
Awesome! Thank you for watching Amelia 🙏🏻☺️
God bless you and every subscriber
Thank you for watching Tatari, love your positivity ☺️💫
Amen 🙏
Same to you!!
I'm so happy to find your videos while I'm planning how to design our apartment. Also loved the feng shui one!!
Thank you for watching Ana! 🙏🏻☺️
Do what works for you Katlyn! ☺️🙌🏻
If they’re happy together, leave them be ☺️
Honestly, they are too big for room. UGH. Can't move bed, I have too many pieces. I will wait until one of the boys go to college.
i think designers should add an addendum to the 'dont do matching set furniture': its a good place to start for people like us who moved into a new place and needed furniture that fits the space and doesnt clash
of course we want personal spaces that have character/expression, but that takes time. furniture sets were our salvation, especially when you get a big discount for buying as a set
For more affordable sheets and duvets the Casa Luna linen series is pretty amazing.
Ooh I’ll check it out, thank you Julia!
My - Bedroom- is -turquoise! 🤦🏾♀️ it had to be the very first thing you said. 😥😂
Haha there’s lots of pretty tones out there! The one I painted was not it! 🙈
Sounds ike designing is much like writing. Gives me hope lol.
It all starts with a vision 💫
I love it when you give us the proper numbers/measurements! Ty!!! Also, which sheet is your favorite?
Thank you June! Anything Pima cotton 💯
Thats cool, my wife makes me paint the rooms every year smh!!!!!
My husband needs to step it up! 😆
You get brownie points for being a patient hubby lol
WOW, every year??? Sheesh
I can't fathom why a bedroom would need to be painted every year...
@@LarryNewmanSusanNewman that’s what I said lol
I love that you said a black focal wall is ok! I've been WANTING one for a while!
Sexy and dramatic 🖤
Love your videos! But PLEASE get rid of that background music. It was distracting and sounded like murder mystery music.
Oh no! I don’t want that 😆
Hi, I am a design nut and was happy to see that there is only one « mistake » in my bedroom: my bed is 6’ wide and leaves only a 2’ space next to it. However, I will always prioritise comfort over design and will not purchase a smaller bed just for looks. I got two small round side tables to act as night stands and it does not look crowded.
Right on 🙌🏻 That is all about designing with intent Nadia!
Love Wamsutta! Nothing a little vinegar in the wash can’t banish Angie! 😉👍🏻
That’s exactly what I’m talking about Adrienne 🙌🏻 Good move!
Thank you Ms Julie 👍👍👍! Your vlog is so informative and you are very beautiful and stylish. I love the way you deliver your message 👍
Thank you for watching and the kindness Abraham 🙏🏻☺️
Julie you’ve inspired me again - I have plain white roller blinds and suddenly I see I should change to floor to ceiling curtains which would look so much softer and just as convenient - thank you again 😀👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yes! Love that look to soften up the elevation 👍🏻
My bedroom furniture matches and I love it. I think when your bedroom furniture doesn't match it looks ugly.
Do what you love always Shelley 👍🏻☺️
Love the videos . So helpful! Not sure what to place about bed . I have headboard and thinking wether I should just leave it and not place anything above the headboard
I have nothing above mine and I love it bare 👍🏻
Can you give info about lights & headboard at 11:33 mark? Love the panel and light combo.
Thank you for watching Shelly! Take a screenshot of the image and upload it onto Pinterest’s search bar, you will get direct links to shop exact or similar items 👍🏻☺️
I finished my bedroom. I did make the one mistake. My end tables are too low but it's all I can do for now. Thank you for all your ideas and advice. I was completely lost at the beginning but now, the rooms looks great. A coastal retreat that I actually enjoy being in.
You can replace the legs with taller legs to add the height you need.
@@nadinecius8747 Thank you. Didn't think of that.
That’s awesome Kathy! We all deserve a bedroom we’re inspired by 🙏🏻☺️
Excellent suggestion Nadine 🙌🏻
Going to search your other videos to see if you’ve covered lamp height, since I like to read in bed. Also size. I have a small room and getting new small nightstands to make the room more in proportion but my lamps may be overpowering. I love your style and your tips Julie.
You can swap them out for wall sconces if they’re too large 👍🏻
I would love it if you made a video on small spaces. I've always lived in big cities and have never owned a home. We have furniture and things that follow us around (and have for 6 years). It is so hard to figure out what to do in new spaces with furniture that travels with us! Even tips on what to look for in a room when looking for a new rental based on the furniture you own.
I have a rental friendly apartment hacks video for more tips Hamsa. Check it out and let me know how else I can help ☺️

Thank you for watching Christine 🙏🏻☺️
Your videos are always so thoughtfully curated and always pack so much in - thank you. Id love your thoughts on where you think is the best place for the bed if the wall directly opposite the door has an off centre window? Thank you.
That’s the wall, add heavy drapery that you close at night. Or the adjacent wall can work as well
You have done it again Julie. I realize that this is actually a lot of work that goes into making a beautiful space. Thanks Julie👸
Lots of work, but what you get in return is priceless ✨
Thx so much for your beautiful and practical content!!! I love to watch it and i love interior design and currently helping some people with their home. I'm also wanting to take a course online for a while just wondering with which to go. Thx again and keep our videos coming!

Thank you for watching Joan 🙏🏻☺️
Learning so much from your channel and to think I was one of those people who never cared about interior design. 🙂
I love that! Now that you’re more mindful, you’ll see how much your space will give back in return Yogina 🙌🏻☺️
Very helpful video, highlighted many of the mistakes I have been making! Reevaluating my curtains now, and definitely need to add more texture and break up the dresser/nightstand set. Thanks!
Thank you for watching! Hope the tips help your design Liz! 🙏🏻☺️
I love a dark bedroom it's so cool and calming I fall asleep in a second😴

I have a few closet videos now on on the channel Pimpo! Some of my first vids ☺️

Hi Julie. I know you like white crisp bedlinnen. So do I. My best ever brand is actually Ikea s Ofelia Vass. Good thick cotton wowen with structure for a reasonal price! I use a silk pillowcase that covers the structured (good for my hair).
Ooh thanks for the tip Siv! I’ll save this 👍🏻☺️
My favorite bedsheets, hands down, are bamboo.
I just discovered Cozy Earth bamboo line and love everything they make, including those heavenly sheets 😍
Thanks Julie ! Another awesome video with many great suggestions and reminders. Those pictures look fabulous ! And so do you ! 💟

Hi Julie, where do you put your laundry basket? Bedroom or laundry room? If bedroom, where is it housed to avoid clutter?
Bathroom Esther. Bedroom is bad Feng Shui and laundry room is not functional if it’s too far away
@@JulieKhuu I never thought to put it in the bathroom. So glad to have found you on my journey to home ownership
Love your Jonathan Adler vase! Thanks for all the great advice.
It’s vintage 😊
Hi Julie. I have a very small masters bedroom. We have a queen bed but we will probably upgrade to king. We do need the bed space, but the walking distance around will be reduced to around 20 inches.
Prioritize your needs and the rest will have to do Olga 👍🏻☺️
