Nice video! Bought this bike after two seasons on a 1290 SAS. With full package, could not be bothered with the demo mode thing, or taking it in to have everything switched on. At first it felt really small but not for long. Probably one of the more fuel efficient engines I've ridden in a long time. For me being >190cm or 6"3 having seat in the highest position turned out to be optimal. Which also resolved, for me, all buffeting questions. You get more wind but the screen does protect your body quite well. Next going on is a pair of KTM risers, the lowest (adds 17mm), specifically for a better standing position. I'd also recommend to swap out the stock seat with the Ergo/comfort. Not only because it gives more comfort but also because of the shape. The "Little Orange" is a great onroad bike, but it's when you take it offroad (without being extreme) one realizes its (dual) purpose. On gravel and dirt, or fire roads, it's a hoot. :)
Thanks Harold. I also jumped on the 790 duke the other day and that felt like i was sitting back on the 390 duke. But feeling small, light and nimble especially when off road isn’t a bad thing for sure. Risers will definitely be required being even tall than me, I don’t like that bent over feeling when off road. Enjoy your new adventure bike my friend.
Thanks Clifton, glad you enjoyed the video. Id love to be able to take these down some green lanes to really test them out but it can't be done on the current insurance plans most dealers have. Luckily there's plenty of options like you've mentioned to dial in this bike for the perfect off road riding. Enjoy your bike and Ride safe.
my 890S has just over 2000 miles on it, and the tires are almost worn out. The have great traction while they last. It is a good bike according to me, and I can do everything the 890R does
I have a new Norden and love it…the QS did take some getting used to, came from a Triumph that was very easy. I only had it going from 1st to 2nd, sometimes going from 2 to 3…getting better the more I ride it.
Ive not ridden a triumph lately but ive heard they are very smooth gearboxes with easy to use QS, KTM on the other hand can be clunky, ive had a few KTMs let alone the demo bikes ive ridden and there has been some issues with their QS let alone how they felt when they worked properly. Hopefully your bike is just settling in and works ok now. Ride safe.
Pretty sure manufacturers were told to advise customers to not use the quick shifter during the break in period. That might be a reason why you’re having issues. I don’t think that it should be like that, but I am sure they have mentioned that to dealers regarding the 890s break in period
Scorpion Rally STR tyres. You can't just say Scorpion Rally, as there is a huge difference between the two. Despite the new fairing, the integration between he tank and fairing doesn't looks very good. They still look like two distinct separate pieces. Yep, on my 890 the QS worked right away. There can be a false neutral between 4th and 5th though.
It still looks much better this way over last years model. The gear issue was at all gears not just 4th and 5th, some people have mentioned that the QS may not have been activated, although i thought i would have been sorted by the dealer. Ride safe
Seems like the quick shifter is not turned on. Even when the qs is enabled on the bike, you still need to turn it on in one of the menus on the dash. There is an on/off option for all of the electronic features.
Potentially, however I don’t think it would shift down easily like it did if it wasn’t turned on. I can shift without using the clutch, I was purposely not doing it this way and it still didn’t shift. 🤷🏻♂️
@@DSR1YT hope you get to soon! Of course it’s great because it’s based on the amazing 890 but Husky really did put a really fair price on the Expedition model with its upgrades over the base Norden. It should be considered by any and all for that reason alone.
Would you buy it for 17,000? I live in Colombia and when taxes kick in that is what it is. I have a great city bike looking for a weekender bike now. thanks and great vid!
Hay there. Honestly, probably not for that money no. Better bikes out there for the extra price point. You might need to look for a second hand cheap one to smash around on the weekend. Enjoy what ever you choose.
For someone like me who is not a diehard off roader and would dabble in some light off roading, this bikes price + some of the extras, brings it into the Africa Twin price range. I know which route i would go…..
I like the new finished look. but I wouldn't buy any ktm. build quality and electronic faults on the 790/890 & 1290 forums. you seem to get electronic faults on 1290 when you wash it! most importantly the add-ons is a con. its like they've sold you a bike at 80% and you have to pay extra for the rest.
But they give you 100% for 600miles to get you hooked. 🤦🏻. I’ll let other people make their decisions on the manufacturer. Trying to suppress my flashbacks from my KTM GT days 😁
You do realise that the quick shifter is ment to work at the higher revs, ktms don't like it when you bibble around and try to use the quick shifter.... and essentially quick shifters are for higher revs
Demo bike so no need. I let the dealer know so they can take a look at it. Hopefully it’s a simple fix like this and not something wrong with the QS itself.
This is really annoying, the continuity of faults in the 790/890 engines. I'm reading of coolant leaks, electrical faults coming from the rear lights and tyres not holding air pressure. would never happen with a Japanese bike, and I own 2 KTMs so I'm not anti KTM,
Don't forget the soft cams, that people who are getting to their fist valve check are finding. There's a huge thread with lots of examples from a lot of different 790 and 890 adventures. All with worn cams and followers. P.S I'm an 890 owner, but it doesn't concern me yet.
I’d always felt it looked unfinished with the headlights plonked on the front. But I always appreciate comments on my videos 😁. All opinions are welcome on my channel.

This is a demo bike from a dealer I work with testing and reviewing their new bikes. One man’s expensive is another man’s budget friendly option 😀 As Paul as mentioned, last year I did buy a brand new 1290 Superduke GT, yes they are expensive but it’s what I could afford. Subsequently I sent it back due to continuous ongoing faults with it. You win some you lose some.
New new KTM is safest bet on reliability. Wouldn't trust someone else with a bike this prone to issues. Its high strung,, high compression ratio, needs special oil, and has lots of electronics
Do you prefer the new styling for 2023 over last years model?
Yeah it actually looks good to me. But this is gonna be subjective.
I've got a 2019 790Adv. 31k miles done and still happy with the bike 👍
Nice to see a KTM going strong. Ride safe.

I'm 6'1" as well and I had to put bar risers on my 2023 890 Adventure and evo-4 foot pegs to get it dialed in just perfect! Awesome video!

How is the heat on your legs at slower speeds?
Didn't find any heat on my legs during the test ride, but maybe other owners can comment and let you know how it is on longer rides.
I deleted the catalytic on my 790 Adv, and the heat (which was only annoying on the hottest days) became negligible.
@mattzobian good to know 🤙
You do realise that the quick shifter is ment to work at the higher revs, ktms don't like it when you bibble around and try to use the quick shifter.... and essentially quick shifters are for higher revs
Quickshifters have a minimum threshold before they work, yes, i know this. It just didnt work, doesnt matter if i was going slower or at higher RPM.
Try adjusting your shifter linkage a little.

This was a demo bike, I didn’t think I’d have too. Not sure if it was or wasn’t activated.

I agree that KTM have some issues they need to iron out. I too owned a KTM but had to send it back due to continuous faults.
