This film was far from perfect, but it tried its best to look unique and that's why I love it.
Yeah, it's not the best movie, but I still like it, because it has some cool stuff in it. Even if it's dumb, it's cool.
Its a movie made for people who just want to have fun.
It's the perfect collapse in front of the TV after a hard days work... And if you fall asleep, you don't mind. The story isn't up there with LOTR's. It's just a good action movie that gives and keeps on giving.
Completely agreeeee. It’s by no means the best writing but the tech is so sick and I love aviation so in turn I love this movie haha. Also Jessica Beil was my teenage crush lmao
super advanced fuel blimp
no one thought to put an emergency stop valve on the hose....
Movie logic
Fund washing.
sounds like a mistake human will make
Deep water horizon
I think that tanker/fuel blimp is also unmanned too.
"My mandate is to survive" - blows up the only thing that keeps him flying and alive...
Not anymore after they locked EDI ID to refuel on that Air Station~
Logic would calculate that there are multiple Fueling Stations posted in different locals around the world for the Jets to refuel at.
500th like
The thing that's keeping him flying and alive is... his wings... and engines
Until the fuel runs out because they are always on afterburner
Shout out to Cameraman for risking his life to give us this amazing footage.
lmao Cameraman is amazing master's skydiving.
The explosion was so big the guy end up in orbit. Some say he's still going.
Silly goose, this is not real. Its all clay animation!
Pt Bot are you that stupid ?
XD
Isn't it kind of weird that the this is like some super advanced 6th generation fighter but the fuel indicators at 1:09 are little red LED numbers like on the flux capacitor in back to the future?
It just needs to show the fuel, doesnt need to tell time and weather.
Considering fighter jets now can refuel in seconds, fair shit tech that takes that long to refuel.
Looks like the dashboard in the command module from Apollo 13 lmao
It does the job. What, you want an IPAD?
@@Coinz8 it's a lot cheaper to put that all on one display
Here's something that's counterintuitive, jet fuel isn't actually that combustable. This scene probably wouldn't happen. The only reason why it functions in an engine is because air is efficiently compressed to an ideal level and mixed with fuel in its combustion chamber. Fuel floating in thin air in extremely thin atmosphere at high altitude would probably be completely inert
Not that the gas would stick like a circle without dispersing or sinking anyway
Wow...that's a really cool explanation
Most people who went to see this movie wouldnt know so all the saw was a good movie and that's what Hollywood is hoping for
That is very true. Especially the thin air part, fire needs oxygen to happen.
That's what I thought, but I guess the filmmakers are trying to catch the human emotion of a fuel that powers the jet should be highly flammable! What burns my eye is where the future aircrafts when this movie was being filmed were supposed to be all glass and they went full-on analog switch crazy there!
2:49 lmao do these CGI artists not realize they created a ball of fire about 60 miles tall right there...? Relative to the size of the Earth, that is WAAAAAAAY too big.
That’s what I thought
corny af
well in their defense the explision is happening in already great hight wich makes it a tad more believable
@@trapy3550 compared to the size of the earth nope
it's a movie dude stop being so realistic
I just realized how freaking big the cockpits are in this movie, compared to real life. So much shoulder room...
There’s almost nothing even on the dashboard too, just a few LED’s
well how else would you be able to fit a film crew, their camera and mics, and still have room for shooting from multiple angles? :)
@@TomJerry-wk5uh did they have toilet inside too?
and rear visibility is nonexistent.
@@simplyyellow6240 well the Su 34, a fighter jet, kinda has a toilet inside. This film is still ridiculous though
Josh Lucas acting here was the best like a true wing commander. I always wanted a sequel of this movie Stealth but it never made...The concept and CGI of EDI was ahead of its time
So Hollywood used a bicycle helmet for the pilots...
My friend to quote a line from Gina Davidson The Long Kiss Goodnight quote budget cuts my dear Congress blindsided me I was forced to find any kind of reliable sources I could use including the so-called bad guy here as he was pointing to the terrorists who was on The Hit List now works for the CIA LOL
All about the budget man
It was the democratic that fund the movie lol
It's to show the actors' faces. I think the only time it's tolerable was when Tom Cruise did that HALO jump.
@@peterfrank3365 when was that?
Considering it was 2005, I think they actually did a fairly good job of visually representing a 6th gen fighter concept without even realizing it. 5th Gen was basically bleeding edge, the F35 existed on paper, and the F22 was just barely into its production run.
For those who dont know.
The Pentagon designates a 6th gen fighter as a fighter that incorporates 5th gen stealth technology, but also has the ability to work with drones in multiple roles, be that a stealth drone wingman or working with reapers to attack ground targets using the fighters more advanced sensors, all while also being able to lock onto a target with the fighter, and have weapons launched from friendly aircraft or drones to engage the target without the fighter ever having to open its payload doors, allowing it to use long range munitions for more accurate over the horizon kills.
Well then that's kinda of a . .more marketing definition than anything else. As the F-35 is already networked with any modern American jet, as well as ground based and naval radar. I would argue that what's lacking is the capability of the "drones" to be assigned a mission and perform it autonomously. This capability is still in development, the most obvious example would be the Australian ghost bat.
@Juraj Sintaj yes and no, the F35 can network with other planes, and thats actually the crux of the F15EX which will basically be a flying missile truck. But there isnt a drone companion nor a unifed software that allows a single pilot the kind of control over the other airframes. That we know of. The Pentagon began work on a 6th gen program back in 2017, but it wasnt publically acknowledged until 2021. Prototypes are already in air mostlikely, and theres more likely than no a plan to incorporate these new developments into the 6th gen fighter program that plans on replacing the F22
This future fighter sucks, look at how many buttons he had to press just to detach and get out
Well devils advocate he was likely on autopilot in vtol configuration, so disengage autopilot retract the refuel probe switch to conventional flight characteristics and retract his flaps. I’m sure it wouldn’t look like that for instance the flaps are on a lever not a button but eh who knows
@@Utubesuperstar 🤦♂️🤣
The person who wrote this So you are an expert on these planes?

2005 movie, don't judge past thing with modern standards
That looks amazing. But I find it hard to believe that that explosion would be stronger than the largest nuclear explosion ever and that Gannon would be able to survive that.
George Hamilton Well it does make sense the blimp is way up in the stratosphere and it is a tanker. It carries fuel and Ben Gannon fleed before the main explosion took place and an F-37 can reach up speeds to mach 4.
I know what happened. But at the moment of the explosion, he was, what, 100 meters away? Even if he didn't have to take time to accelerate to Mach 4, he wouldn't have been able to escape the explosion.
George Hamilton Yeah well he accelerated before the main explosion took place.
+TytoAlbaSoren He was nowhere near Mach 4 by the time the explosion took place.
George Hamilton I know
I personally love the precise futuristic computer reading of “thin air”
Could've dived, just sayin'
But did he though?🤣
He needed to keep up with the UCAV.
Most likely its a risk cause if he were to dive hed have to use hypersonic speed and in a scene which he dived down with a missle he passed out. Almost dying. So he just kept up the pace with the ucav edi
@@PlxyBxiNxrcy it's not gonna be risky if he's gentle on the stick, at that altitude he has plenty time to recover from a dive without risking G loc. btw modern F16 can pull the plane up automatically if the pilot is having G loc during a dive
The plot of the movie definitely fits with the lore of Ace Combat's strangereal universe, especially with 3 and 7.
I played ace combat as a kid and then watched this movie growing up this is as close as to a real Ace Combat movie we're going to get I'm pretty sure seeing how this is pretty much the plot of Ace Combat 3 if you haven't played that you really should the translation is pretty much completed
Except this movie is about navy. Not an air force. If the navy use a pilot from air force as backup plan if they ran out of pilot then i get the point.
Biggest problem I see with this is that the mid air refueling planes have safety plans to prevent fuel from going through the boom when not specifically told to. Shooting the nozzle off would just make it shut off at the base of the boom.
whatever
The F/A-37 looks a lot like an X-02 Wyvern, especially with its forward swept wings that have variable geometry
It's Mr. X
AC zero.
Maybe the designer(s) got aspired by the Wyvern's design?
@@AlexSDU ppff the first aircraft with forward-inclined wings was the Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut, just because they use the same wing design or have some similarities does not mean they were copied or inspired.
@@JamtypeII ppff You are wrong there. The first forward swept wing jet aircraft was the Grumman X-29, built in 1984. SU-47 only came in early 1990's. ppff
Huge credit to the team at DD for creating work that in 2021 is still extremely good. The only area lacking is the final photorealistic 'look' in the comp.
As a vfx i can say that
Cgi was in Infancy at that time it neither looked photorealistic nor the proper physics
1. How have I never heard of this movie
2. How was this movie’s special effects so good for its time? Why does it feel like a movie made recently?
1. Because the movie is underrated.
2. Because it's a Hollywood movie. Probably because of the CGI or because Movieclips just recently posted it.
Nick The Undying they spent a truckload of money on the film... unfortunately it was one of the biggest box office bombs of all time :/
the movie isn't that good, I don't recommend watching it
The effects are good but ngl the movie itself it really cheesy
The movie is wonderful. I recommend watching it. I watched thrice. Will watch the fourth time.
"My spectral sensors are reading flammable atmospherics"... did you need a sensors to tell you that? the big green toxic gas circle coming out of the fuel blimp does not tell you that. This is why they are replacing you! GAH!

2005
This came out in 2005 and it's still the best and basically the only film like this ever made...
It's not too late to make a stealth 2
Who cares if it bombs just straight to Netflix / amazon prime it, if this film came out today on Netflix / amazon prime it would be a PERFECT film for that.
Honestly I'll never forget watching this in 2005, the day we got the dvd this is probably THE film that got me into the love of engineering and computers and AI.
It took 18 years for real life AI to even start to catch up to what this film had.
They need to capitalise on the AI hype and release a stealth 2 with an even more advanced EDI 2, back then this was all science fiction to most people,
18 years of technological advance in real life and in movie making / cgi, a rogue AI plane with 2023 cgi my body isn't ready
The fact that the tanker would have been designed with a shut off valve made this un-watchable...
I love the design of the jet (idk if it’s intended or not). There was a prototype jet that looked almost identical. Flew but if I’m not correct the test pilots didn’t like it as it was very unstable. Don’t quote me on that one tho.
Edit: XB-53 is one I remember distinctly and JU-287 v1 which was a loony toones looking thing I really liked. It was the first ever one I saw and was fascinated by them.
1:52 "That information is wrong. He tried to kill me. He made mistakes. Pilot error."

very kind AI to start the fire just about far enough from the pilot to give him time to finish refueling and escape. If it was deadly, it would have started at the refuel.
Its a running theme in the movie the AI doesn't want to kill his wingmen he is having a dissagreement with them on tactics. Just like Jamie Foxx in the canyon chase its on the pilot's reaction time to survive. He is testing them.
Worst feeling all the sudden it shuts off I think I pooped myself lol....
I have no idea who would come up to design edi nobody knew they were creating a dangerous war machine.
"Bring him in, Shelby!!! He's out of control!!!"
Oh wait wrong movie.
I wonder if such a refueling blimp would make sense for the military, or if it would turn into a large and easy target during a war? I also wonder if they would let something like that fly around unmaned and risk having it hacked, they would very likely put some badly paid airman up there to prevent hacking or fuel getting lost.
Ignoring the practicality of a blimp even being able to carry that much fuel and somehow floating all the way up to the stratosphere. Planes would likely stall trying to refuel. Blimps don't go very fast. Any plane would have to slow down to a point where there wouldn't be any lift. Maybe a Harrier could pull it of or a VTOL F-35. Regardless, something like this would be seen from any satellite and be shot down in a conflict.
No real point to use this instead of just a tanker plane, as it's just way too big, slow, and unwieldy
@@josephsmith2259 That is why the planes it is meant to refuel have hover-capabilities.

the evil enemy will always wait til the hero gets back on his feet.. of course..
It didn't wait. As soon as the pilot said that he would shoot down EDI, EDI ignited the fuel cloud (trying to get a kill without using its internal ammunition). If the pilot had kept on talking he could have gotten more fuel, and potentially even talked EDI down. He is not supposed to be a hero making threats, he is a United States officer with the rights and duties that involves.
closest thing to an ace combat movie.
I like the strategic and tactical section.... a.k.a comment section of this video on UA-cam
The airship very much reminds me of the Sphyrna from Ace Combat 3, I wonder if they actually took inspiration from it.
I liked this movie, it was entertaining.
So I was this many years old when I realized the fuel is in a circle because the blimp keeps its position by moving in a circle, thus constantly spraying fuel into the cloud...
You mean to say those dangling hoses don't have valves in the tanker itself? You don't even need to be in the oil industry to realize that's a stupid design flaw
That plane was just a mutated F-23 -_-
Ryan Chua Bowen looks more like an su-47 if you’d want to double check for yourself.

+Ryan Chua Bowen He said it _looks_ like an SU-47, not that it is one
It's a fictional plane called f-37.
To me, it looks from the fornt like f-117, the middle part is SU-47, tail section is F-22, and with some futuristic festures.

Let's just appreciate the cameraman
Is this plane hovering or is the blimp traveling at the same speed as a jet fighter?
h31212 😂👍
You're aware Jets don't just have _one_ speed, right? They have thrusters, which, shocker, have throttles. How do you think refuelling planes work? Jets slow down to match their speed, and yes, they're _possibly_ going faster than the blimp is here(we cannot know, these fighters are quite sophisticated so it stands to reason other vehicles are too) but anything coming in to refuel will just match speed.
@@hellsgate09 I just think it's funny that either the blimp is going 200+ km/h or the fighter is slowing down to 50 km/h.

this movie has its awesome moments...but overall its just meh..
It had a good soundtrack and dogfight scenes, as well as setpieces like the one in this video, but a lot of other elements didn't work, none of the actors that played the main trio were compelling in the slightest (Biel and Foxx specially felt like diversity tokens and out of place), so it ends up being pretty bad overall.
EDI was the best character and basically the main reason I haven't simply forgotten about the movie.
It ended up being a half-baked Yukikaze and I'll be damned if whoever wrote this movie didn't take cues from that OVA.
