I was just thinking of cutting and trimming some trees 🌲 in my property myself, I couldn’t imagine spending thousands of dollars 💵 to get it done, but after watching this video i definitely CHANGED MY MIND! I don’t care if I have to sell my first born I AM NOT CLIMBING ANY TREES! you guys are crazy! 😂 whatever money you guys make you deserve every penny! 😮
No. No! NO!!! This has to stop! You all are having waaaay too much fun, dammit! 😊Good vibes. Great content. ✌ P.s. There are so many good saws out there - Stihl, Husky, whatever. I have an inexplicable love for the 395xp.
I just picked up the Milwaukee top handle today (tool only) for $362 out the door. I already have a bunch of batteries for my other tools. Have yet to use it.
This is one of the most informative tree work videos I've ever seen ... and it was the work itself that did most of the talking. No internet star wannabe BS, just hard working, highly-skilled guys actually doing the job. Very nice video. I've both liked and subscribed, so please keep up with the great video production.
Now that’s a fun crew! I’m looking forward to more videos with you three in the future. Nice work with the drone footage too. I think the Echo DCS-2500T would’ve been a good addition to this comparison. Keep up the good work, Sir!
Nice assortment. I would like to see a comparison with the Echo and Makita top handle saws as well. I'm a fan of the Echo 2500t. $500 for the full kit, and another $150 battery gets you power for the whole day. That new Milwaukee looks like it has plenty of power. Built in scrench is really neat.
I love my 2500t. I used it today while climbing. It's so light compared to my gas top handle and not having to crank it while in the tree is so nice. I have used it for removals but most of my work is for pruning and that's where it really shines.
I have the Makita 10” and 14 inch saws since I’m on the platform, contractor kit, lawnmower etc. The 10” is super light and handy to operate with one hand. It doesn’t have the power to kick back and easily cuts up to 6” branches and logs. The 14” uses two 18v batteries and makes quick work of bucking 13” logs easily matching the homeowner Echo 14” we had on hand. The run time is too short and the charge time is too long but I have 8 5ah batteries so the job got done.
Jake, if your shoulders are hurting you need to do some bodybuilding shoulder work. I know climber don't like the idea of lifting weights, but I can tell you from experience it will help. I'm 42 now, about 10 years ago my shoulders were spent. I did mostly bucket truck work. After I started lifting weights and getting stronger doing work above my head became easier along with everything else in tree removal. Having the ability to work as you age is the greatest ability you can have and being strong helps.
I have the larger Milwaukee 2727 with a 16 inch bar, and it is my go to small chainsaw for clearing brush and cutting smaller trees. I can go for for 6 hours on one 12 Ah battery when clearing brush. Nice to be able to use my other Milwaukee batteries, but it does have a couple of drawbacks. It seems like Milwaukee did not have a chainsaw person in the development of the saw. While the torque is fantastic, the RPMs could be a little faster than the 4000 RPM, and I feel that some torque could have been traded for speed, and the .043 gauge chain is too small for the available torque. I got an .050 bar and chain, and it cuts faster and does not get bogged down as easily since the .050 chain cuts a wider kerf. The bar cover has an odd angle that reverses in the direction of chip flow with an acute angle, so the chips start to build up instead of flowing out. I ground out some of the plastic with a grinder to get better chip flow. An adjustable oiler and an on/off switch with a 10 minute auto off would be nice to have.
I think the cookie cutting at the end was near enough to a draw because the Milwaukee came out of the cut on the upswing and there was more delay on the Husky switching from finishing the down cut to starting the upswing .
Which honestly as a small time tree guy? Would make the Milwaukee the clear winner. Can pck a blower and 1/2” impact and grease gun for the heavy equipment that all run off the same batteries as the saw. (Batteries & chargers I already have.)
Im not a tree guy, but I already have shit ton of milwaukee gear for my motor / metal trade. So when i needed a saw, It was obvious choice to get the milwaukee saw. And it does everything I need it too.
Second video on the Milwaukee top handle August did one a few weeks ago both reviews were pretty good price n regular m18 fuel batteries looks like a good deal The three musketeers getting after it good n funny as always 👍
I have the Stihl and the button is definitely a pain. The fix was to just tape down the top Orange safety lever with some electrical tape. Put the battery in and go. Just use chain brake like any other saw.
Awesome video Jacob! Quick tip against sap/resin: Just use any vegetable oil or butter, it resolves the resin and than you can easily wash it all away with a regular soap 👍🏼 Thanks for the comparison, I will buy the Milwaukee since I already have a lot of Milwaukee tools 😊 Stihl as always just a joke..
No Makita XCU09 36v (18v x 2)? It's legit. A little on the heavy side, but cuts very well (with a Stihl chain, instead of the Oregon chain that it comes with). Going to convert to a Panther bar with 1/4 pitch chain, and it will be an absolute hot knife for 6" wood.
I already have Milwaukee chargers and using Milwaukee equipment so I know which climbing saw I'm going with unless Husqvarna would like to sponsor me for some reason even though I don't have a tree removal /trimming channel or have a actual business doing it I just do it on the side to help people out.
It would have been only a couple years ago when comment sections on videos such as these would have been full with battery naysayers. It's cool to see people becoming more open minded over time.
Mitch probably saves a ton of time not having to climb the tree to top it. It's nice of him to climb this one so Jake doesn't feel short. (I'm 6'5, I can make the tall jokes) lol

Heyy men just wondering if you know witch type of chain and plate you put on the mini milwaukee m18 did you change the sproket to fit that? Thanks love your vide your a great inspiration!!
I'm a minute in and Husky will leave the other three in the dust. Husqvarna is way ahead of everyone with their battery products. They also give a two year Commercial warranty on the saw, battery, and charger. As battery tools go, the first purchase always stings. Add a second tool down the road and it's much easier to stomach.
Milwaukee’s commercial warranty is 3 years on saw, battery, and charger. I own a 540i and might get the Milwaukee due to being able to dawg it in more when cutting.
Awesome video, I recently did a battery powered top handle saw shootout with 8 “professional” saws on my channel and found myself having similar opinions as you. The power button on the Stihl was very aggravating and seems unnecessary when targeting a professional market! I loved the Milwaukee and own a hatchet myself but never seen one with a 12” bar, super cool! The little Echo saw and Makita really surprised/impressed me as well! Thanks for the content, it was nice seeing these saws used in real world applications against eachother!
I have the original Milwaukee 16”, it has preformed very well. We had a bad windstorm last July, I went thru 3 batteries that night clearing up several trees that were blocking the streets in my neighborhood. Getting the top handle & pruning versions soon
The top handle version is way better from my experience in the last week, I wish I would have gotten the kit instead of tool only. I really like the 14" bar.
For me a top handle saw needs good ergonomics and handling. Cutting speed is the second requirement. I think overall the best saw is still the husky. The Milwaukee seems nice too havent tested it yet. The stihl is just too bulky and i dont like the handle for the left hand. Additionally the 1 second button is a dealbreaker for me. For pruning i like the echo too. Super light. The stihl just feels
I love my Kobalt Pole Chainsaw - 80-volt - 5-AH battery - 10" Bar - 6 ft / 8ft foot Pole Chainsaw. No electric cord. I've been using Oregon Bars and Chains. I have been using it for more than 3 years now. It works great on my southeast Louisiana farm clearing property that a hurricane went through and trashed all the trees throughout the woods of our 18-acre farm. I carry it all over in our woods and the battery lasts a long time. Today I'll be cutting a 6-inch limb off of a tree out front. I am also using (2) Kobalt 80 volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and using (2) 5 AH Batteries. Cuts huge logs great. The chainsaw first one wound up in a puddle and stopped working but after a couple of weeks and it had dried out, it started working again. For oil, I like to use Ryobi Bar and chain oil. We have cut 20"+_ logs and works like a charm. And NO more pulling and pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw. - - - - - - - One 80v 18" chanin saw with 5ah battery snd charger was $400 as of 7/28/2021
Awesomeness, yall are doing a great job jacob. Also i feel like randy has boosted your channel. Just my opinion but i think that was the secret ingredient you needed to make it all come together.
Had a pleasant surprise this morning, "A-1 Tree Service" of Spokane is doing a massive log pole pine x2 down the street. After watching you, I was hoping maybe you would be up it slinging the saw. Everything I've seen on the channel.. now I get to hear it and see it in real time. Put a smile on my face and an appreciation.
You should try the echo battery arborist saw!! That one have many nice features on it... and it is way lighter than all off those! Think it cuts faster aswell. Echo DCS 2500-T
From the video the stihl battery saw seems to cut better then the others but the safety crap on it kills it. I have the little 18v makita love the controls on it is awesome for pruning big stuff is a no go. It's also a good looking saw I call it my power silky.
I really enjoyed this video comparing the saws. I have a Ryobi 16-18 inch brushless 40volt HP chain saw. I like how it works alot and is also very light and cuts extremely well. You can also get 40volt 2ah to 8ah for longer run time. I paid 250$ with tax and shipping for the bare tool because I had other 40volt battery tools. I wanted to see you guys would get one and try it out and do a video on it. Also Ryobi and milawakee are owned by the same parent company techtonic industries.
i own the milwaulkee fuel saw, love it more then strong enough for what i use it for,run a 12.o batt and you will love it,invest in 12.0 batterys for your milwaulkee"big"tools and you will be a believer......
Lots of chit-chat. I hope you guys stay vigilant & avoid complacency while you are having all that fun. The Jed sticker should remind you to stay safe at all times. I own a Milwaukee M18 driver, so I will have to look into their chainsaw!
My Milwaukee pole saw took a 30 foot, 12 inch across pine. Was trying to see if getting the full size hatchet for some huge limbs that fell during a storm. I think I'll stick with Milwaukee for that.
I have the Milwaukee and just recently Was gifted the Dewalt, and I’m super impressed with the Dewalt. Seems way more powerful and more comfortable than the Milwaukee. Would’ve liked to have seen you demo it
Got the 20” DeWalt flex volt(in UK) Phenomenal saw. Haven’t tried any other battery powered saws so can’t compare, have many petrol saws, but I love this saw, just keeps cutting and never bogs down. Only issue is no dogs.
Those hatchets are cool but it seems like you just wanna grab that gaurd. When I tried one out I noticed they put weird uncomfortable ridges along the edges maybe in an effort to deter holding it there. When that kicked, it coulda been bad. My Ridgid electric saw has incredible torque with an 8Ah battery. I haven’t ever stalled it. Just eats
Great comparison. I saw Milwaukee came out with a smaller saw and was wondering how it performed. Im one of those people with a pile of batteries so this is great.
Does the sap ever act like oil in the cut? - just curious since I'm from Ohio and don't deal with many conifers. Made it home safe and happy to find a new video from you. I've been debating on top handles and the M18 might be a winner for me. Thank you
I'd love to see this topic revisited with the inclusion of the newer dual-battery Milwaukee 20" chainsaw and the EGO 20" commercial unit (and maybe also the cheaper EGO 20" residential unit). Cheers!
Wow! I'd love to have one of these electrics but they simply cost too much to be almost gauranteed to not be working in 10 years. I just ordered an Echo CS 355T For 363.00 shipped.😀 Be safe!
All this is trash now, makita is above them. Tgesr are 36volt max or most likely 18x2. While makita now use 40 volt. And all batteries from 2 amp to 10 amp. Best thing makita has all tooos and all are on same battery. Gusjy stihl are trash in battery. Whats left is only name. Tgese are 18 volt tools. Marketing trick to paint like its 36. So makita now in 40 cc while this is qay lower.
Not gonna lie, it makes me happy to see the Stihl offering is overpriced, over complicated, over engineered, and overweight. They’re the brand I love to hate. I’m already invested in the Milwaukee M18 tools for construction so I’ll definitely be giving their chainsaws a serious look.
No Greenworks 16" 40V Digipro, just a waste of time and money comparison. Greenworks' the best, owned since 2013, stihl going strong. Just my opinion 😊
The cut speed is dependent upon the depth setting of the rakers and how many passes a given tooth can make over the wood in a given time period. Pressing harder goes nothing but stall the saw. Husqvarna saws are made to run fast like a carving knife. Most " weekend warriors" don't appreciate this fact. Unfortunately, many saw manufacturer's know about the more pressure = more speed fallacy and gear their saws to run slower. I once demoed a Husqvarna to a sawmill owner. He immediately forced it to stall. Then he picked up his saw and showed me that it wouldn't stall as easily. I gave up. Some bulbs just can't be lit! Shalom/gw
your clearly a pro treeson guy but I don't see any fall arrest at times, even a chocker will save your life, you will fall it's just a matter of time .....and stop busting up your shoulders grabbing those branches when not necessary clear hole) as you probably no step cut limbs often fall flat , a ring at a time not grabbing , groundy clears while you move up to next ring
That tree has aids, cooties, all the corntina variables, the blue balls, crabs, and the seven year itch😮! and now yall have contracted all that you'll have to cycle broad spectrum biotics and bathe for weeks in a commercial powered delousing agent 😅 all the whilst being quarantined 😅
I am not a tree guy but I HATE how you keep holding the saw with one hand and putting your arm behind it so that you can hold the top of the log you are cutting. I don’t have a better solution, I don’t know if that is even dangerous but I do know it is freaking me the f out
Hey Jake, Fun Video, great to see the comparison. I enjoy when you do videos with Randy, You guys have a lot of fun. How did you feel about the battery life of the Milwaukee vs. your Husky that you're used to? I watched August's video on the Milwaukee saw. For now not sure I can spend the $$ even though it's quite a bit less than the others, I only do tree work part time and more for favors than for profit. I'm currently running an old Mac 310 that I got REAL CHEAP. 😅
Sorry but I think the battery ones have a long way to go. They only as good as their batteries last. The gas one you just fill up and carry on going. If you in the woods and your battery dies you done for the day if you don't have a back up. Then there is the price..... they all stupid expensive.
Because of overall cost battery just isn't there yet for me. Still way to expensive. While cut times are comparable overall cost of 2 year ownership is so much higher on electric.
Milwaukee contacted you and you didn't respond cuz you didn't know they made saws? Hahaha. Can you come up with a better story, buddy? That ones no good
Where can I find more videos on the hatchet? And did you make the custome chain yourself? I have just got one myself, and am looking to increase run speed and some how make a longer bar work on it
I got the stihl one it cuts good its got a ton of wight on it if they could get it down in the wight it be a really great saw it's pricey and u got to buy everything..so afterwards u got a ton of money in a brick of a saw ...so iam going to climb with a 200t that I had turned up and it rips ya got to put gas in it but that means it's time to take a brake and get a drink ...so ya court out on it ..I do like it in the bucket it's nice to run out of the bucket very quiet and it's not sitting making a ton of heat really like it that way and it not hanging on your belt like a big rock just shave off some wight and it be in the running for the first thing out the box ...but u got to have a light power house on that tail gate
Definitely need more videos with both randy and Mitch. What a good time that must be

After watching you, I was hoping maybe you would be up it slinging the saw.
Everything I've seen on the channel.. now I get to hear it and see it in real time.
Put a smile on my face and an appreciation.
It's called a lodgepole pine
Them battery saws really hold their value in the used market
How’d you gentleman get so comfortable in your climbing gear? that’s insane work
You should try the echo battery arborist saw!! That one have many nice features on it... and it is way lighter than all off those! Think it cuts faster aswell.
Echo DCS 2500-T
Hey man, great channel.
It seems like you're communication system works good. What sytem do you run?
Where is the echo? I love my battery echo.
Wish jed was here to help make video
From the video the stihl battery saw seems to cut better then the others but the safety crap on it kills it. I have the little 18v makita love the controls on it is awesome for pruning big stuff is a no go. It's also a good looking saw I call it my power silky.
I have the Makita also , you know about holding the button down for a few seconds to get the torque boost ?
@Gordon L yes I do. I have been thinking about getting the 36v one but they also have a 40v. I'm not sure if its avaliable in the u.s yet though.
Yo Mitch!!!!!!!!!! We need more Mitch please!!!!!!!
I saved on batteries with a Stihl as well, as I have a lawn mower and hedge trimmer that all use the same battery.
I run all Makita tools, and I have a bunch of batteries. I would love to see their lineup of 18v and 36v saws put to the test!
Working with the big boys today! But I think SIZE..... Does not MATTER.
Always enjoyable and lots of fun to watch!
I would definitely rock a hoodie and shirt that says “ Christmas at the top Pissmas at the bottom” 😅😅
Does the sap ever act like oil in the cut? - just curious since I'm from Ohio and don't deal with many conifers. Made it home safe and happy to find a new video from you. I've been debating on top handles and the M18 might be a winner for me. Thank you
Nope, makes a mess of your saw too, speaking from experience. I have a lot of Grand Fir on my property. Not many BTU's in the wood either.
@@billbryce2538 I figured unfortunately
I'd love to see this topic revisited with the inclusion of the newer dual-battery Milwaukee 20" chainsaw and the EGO 20" commercial unit (and maybe also the cheaper EGO 20" residential unit).
Cheers!
"Milwaukee sent me...." nah this isn't biased.....
Totally. My 40v Greenworks gets the job done for this homeowner.
I'd like to see the Ryobi 40-volt D handle chainsaw thrown into the lineup
Ryobi Top Handle 40V,, battery, charger $289. Lots of similarity to m18.
Shalom/gw
Which of the milwaukee did you like best? 4420 remember you have a longer bar on the hatchet.
What was needed to swap the 12” bar onto the hatchet, Iv been eyeing the hatchet but want longer than the factory 8”
6 minutes in, you (Jake) answered my question. Are you short, or are these guys ridiculously tall? 6'10"???? That's not human. 😅
I picked up a 20" electric saw with the battery in it at Home Depot. That thing felt heavier than my Husky 372xp with a 28" bar! LOL!!!
your clearly a pro treeson guy but I don't see any fall arrest at times, even a chocker will save your life, you will fall it's just a matter of time .....and stop busting up your shoulders grabbing those branches when not necessary clear hole) as you probably no step cut limbs often fall flat , a ring at a time not grabbing , groundy clears while you move up to next ring
You forgot the electric echo climb saw. You should review that
I have a feeling echo is getting left in the dust. That price/power combo of the MIlwaukee is going to be hard to beat.
I am not a tree guy but I HATE how you keep holding the saw with one hand and putting your arm behind it so that you can hold the top of the log you are cutting. I don’t have a better solution, I don’t know if that is even dangerous but I do know it is freaking me the f out
Moral of the video, go with Husqvarna T540ixp
Yer had a 160 stihl electric. Sold it cheap. Wasent good. Spose depends what ya doin. But muff mod 150 so much better. Loud tho.
Because of overall cost battery just isn't there yet for me. Still way to expensive. While cut times are comparable overall cost of 2 year ownership is so much higher on electric.
The amount of anxiety you guys gave me😬...Be safe.
Milwaukee contacted you and you didn't respond cuz you didn't know they made saws? Hahaha. Can you come up with a better story, buddy? That ones no good
Where can I find more videos on the hatchet? And did you make the custome chain yourself?
I have just got one myself, and am looking to increase run speed and some how make a longer bar work on it
Personally i like the eletric husky the most
Great video, for residential use, do you feel like the Husqvarna 435 is a great saw, 4MS180 by steel is betterF
Maybe give the Makita XCU11Z 18V rear-handle 14" bar Brushless LXT version a shot. I love mine!
The Stihl hand pruner saw and trimmer suck vs the Milwaukee. I'm pissed I wasted the money on the 12v crap from Stihl
Tke name of the game is chain speed and sharpness of the chain. "Luggig" a chainsaw is counterproductive." Shalom/gw
