'Beechwoods' is the name of a nature reserve near Cambridge, the city from which Pink Floyd came.

I always imagine what he would have done for a melody and lyrics for this. And this whole conjecture of him being too far gone? Well it’s not outside the realm of reason. But he had TWO banger solo albums.

I also really like his Third solo album Opel. Opel had several songs never released before, as well as several alternate versions of already released songs. Really great stuff, check it out and God bless Syd Barrett and many thanks as well to David Gilmour and Roger Watters helped out on the Madcap album, and David and Rick Wright made the second album which was also brilliant; AND there is a new (august 2023) DVD on Syd and Pink Floyd called ‘ Have You Got It Yet” , I hope it is also great, I’ve not seen it yet.

From what I have gathered just from interviews with Roger and David, Syd became super unreliable in a live show setting, sometimes he would purposely play or sing the wrong things, sometimes he would stand there zoning out as if frozen in time, and sometimes he would simply not bother to show up to gigs. The other band members briefly considered keeping Syd on as a composer and studio musician while David would handle the live shows similar to what the Beach Boys did with Brian Wilson, but that became impossible too as Syd just wasn't able to focus on getting anything done in a band setting. I know some of the Floyd guys helped him on his solo records (mostly David) but even then it was said that it required a lot of effort on the part of others to keep Syd focused enough to finish those albums.

Also I don't believe it was intended to be an instrumental. It was a backing track that they never got around to recording the vocals for.

This is too good to have not gotten around to have written lyrics & a vocal track laid. Was it just forgotten about or recorded at not a good time? It sounds like late 67

Syd wasn't able to record vocals, from what I gathered

With Floyds schedule from May 1967 till the time Syd left being fairly well documented, does anyone know when this was recorded?

I first heard this song 10 years ago while tripping on LSD. In the sequence when it’s playing those two jazz sounding chords repeatedly (sorry not a music major) does it sound like it’s saying Pink Floyd? I have it etched into my brain and I hear it every time I hear this song.

How did you hear this 11 years ago when it didn't become available until The Early Years box set in 2016?

@@Tony-hu7ukIn The Beechwoods was available for at least a decade prior to the Early Years boxset, sourced from an off-air recording of a radio interview with Nick Mason. He talked about the track then it was played. It was a highlight of the RoIO box set Have You Got It Yet?

A new sound this like what new order would do years later and to think the muzac band they became don't get me wrong I love David but not as cutting edge as syd
