    I made fixin wax for the first time. I plan on using it for my gear mainly, but it has many other uses as well. Below is a link for the recipe that I used.

    I have some from Uitwaaien.
    I put it on an old knife sheath.
    It looks nice and is more flexible.
    It also helped my chapped hands.

    Good stuff.. I have made a couple different recipes.. one with olive oil one with deer tallow. Both work well. Handy item to have in your kit. hint.. seal it up in hot weather.. screw top tins are the best I've found

    Nice work! Looks like the heat melted the wax on the wax paper which made it stick. Might try parchment paper. I think it’s impregnated with silicone so it won’t stick to anything. Works great for cookies, it should work for fixin’ wax!

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 років тому

      Thanks for the tip, the wax paper definitely stuck. I’ll have to try the parchment paper next time. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.

    I had seen a technique in the past that used Acetone and Bees wax. The problem it had was that it discolored leather. It caused it to get darker. It worked great for waterproofing and conditioning though. I believe that the acetone caused the discoloration though. I did however learn one important thing from that video. They make two kinds of toilet gaskets. One of them is made with bees wax. It is way cheaper to buy one of them than to buy packaged bees wax. I would love to see an update of how well this formula works with leather. I think that it might do an excellent job. If you have success with it, please post a video and share brother. Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I hope you cleaned up the stove before your wife got home. LOL

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 років тому +1

      This stuff will make leather darker too. But it's not really "discoloring" the leather. I used something similar on my leather work boots. And I will update on how well it performs on various things including leather. Thanks for watching bro. Take care.

    • @lonewoodsman

      And yeah, I did clean up the stove, lol.

    • @Casey1pj
      @Casey1pj 6 років тому

      I appreciate you brother. I can't wait to learn more about this. It's expensive to buy factory made conditioning and waterproofing paste. I personally like my leather dark but others like it all natural. No rot and no leakage is all I worry about. Haha. Thanks.

    The original recipe had tallow instead of lard, because lard can go rancid much easier than tallow. Other options could be kokum butter (for vegans :) ) and duck fat. All easily obtainable thru Amazon. Great video btw.

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 років тому +1

      That is true about the tallow. I have never had the lard go rancid on me yet ( not to say it won't ). If I get lucky enough to get a deer this hunting season I plan on saving the tallow and using it to make more. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.
