In the 1986 movie "Maximum Overdrive," the White Western Star "Green Goblin" truck emerges as an indelible character in its own right. This mammoth of a truck adorned with a menacing Green Goblin mask on its grille, becomes the physical embodiment of the film's apocalyptic chaos. Under the influence of a mysterious extraterrestrial force, this mechanical behemoth wreaks havoc on a world plunged into chaos by machines gone rogue. Its sheer size, distinctive appearance, and relentless pursuit of the film's protagonists contribute to the truck's iconic status in the realm of cult classic science fiction, making it a symbol of malevolent machinery and terror on the open road.

This truck is now owned by a gentleman in my hometown in Pennsylvania. I see it from time to time going down the road. Pretty cool
Cool, yeah I saw that it's already changed hands a few times since it was built last just last year. Owning a truck like that would be hard in a number of ways, even without the constant attention it draws, lol!
Where at in Pa?
I live about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh down by the Wva border.
Saw it outside of Fogelsville, PA at a truck repair shop several months ago. Possibly another replica of tractor and trailer??

Omg you covered my absolute favorite horror movie of all time. This channel is so great
Glad to hear that. I was requested by several folks, so you're not alone there, lol. Glad you are enjoying the channel friend😉👍
This movie terrified me as a child lol
I know it´s considered bad taste by most people but i absolutely love this movie! I even like the 1990s sequel although not as much as this one.
😁👍
There was a Sequel???
@@Ecchier No and considering the creator himself despised it, there most likely won't ever be one.
@@Ecchier Sorry that was a misleading mistake from me. It´s actually more of a remake. It´s simply named "Trucks" and was released in 1997.
@@victorvance2573 oh, I remember that movie, I like Maximum overdrive better tbh
Would love to see the look on DOT,s face as you get pulled into the inspection bay with that.
LOL! 😁👍
Thanks for doing this one. Like so many here, this is one of my very few favorite movies from my teen years (16 in ‘86). And the music…c’mon! Nothing better! 🇨🇦👍🏼

@@CarStarz42are you going to do a video on the 1966 batmobile?
we're the same age. the music rocks, and i still have the soundtrack on cassette. what a great movie, and ac/dc is one of my fav bands.
@@johndean2110 Well, honestly the original '60s Batman series was always off-putting to me and extremely difficult for me to even look at; just can't stand seeing grown men running around in practically kid's Halloween costumes; I mean just Yikes! 😬
However, I may try to look past that for the car's sake if I have enough people request it; but, you are only the second person to even ask about that car though, so not sure if there's much interest in it in general by folks. We'll see though 🤔
A great movie with the absolute best soundtrack.
Indeed a killer movie and soundtrack😉👍

Who in hell didn't realize the green goblin was spider man's green goblin?
How ridiculous to let the only surviving green goblin head rot into the ground.
Well, me for instance; my friends and I never liked Spiderman and always though it was just too corny even as kids. As for Marvel, I'm more of an X-Men fan myself, the Wolverine character mostly. 😉👍

This movie terrified me as a kid in the 80's lol

This was filmed in the Leland area out of Wilmington. I was there, my sister-in-law prepared most of the trucks and I'm pretty sure the trailer on this. There was no interest back then in retaining the movie props.
Cool and definitely, vehicles were just disposable props to that industry for sure unfortunately.
I use to live like 10 miles from where most of this was filmed. I know exactly where the Estes yard is and most of the backdrop land marks.

Great video.
Are you sure the trailer was 40 foot though? It always looked shorter.
Thanks. Definitely a 40 footer; it's just that most of the time you see it in the movie, most angles are shot from the front or back making it seem shorter 😉
@@CarStarz42 I’d always thought it was a 36 foot body, it just seemed shorter compared to the length of the tractor - which itself isn’t an especially long chassis. But I guess you’ve done all the research.
One of my all-time favorites! The engine sound in the movie is not an 8V71 though-they have a lot louder and more high-pitched exhaust sound-the sound in the movie is an 8V92. The diecast is really cool but has a Cummins engine instead of a Detroit-quite the oversight on a $150 diecast.
Yeah, I was discussing the engine sounds with someone else on here a few days back, we concluded that it was probably a studio mix of the two, maybe even with some 12V92 clips thrown in there at times. Hard telling when it comes to audio in movies with all the dubbing they do. 😉
$150? these are getting as pricey as the real ones.
@@crushingvanessa3277 Well, most places that still have it in stock are $125, not sure where you're seeing the $150, but yes; pricey. Then again they are a good collector's item though and do gain value fast. For example the Smokey and the Bandit Kenworth DCP release for a limited time a few years back now sell on eBay from around $300-$500
@@CarStarz42 In one of the comments I saw that. I did look it up and they are getting up there on everyones favorite auction site. I'll just build one in 1/25 for a fraction of that amount. I already have the Goblin's face and the truck and trailer.
@@crushingvanessa3277 Ah, that would be cool. 1/25 scale would be quite sizeable, but would be awesome nonetheless👍
Awesome as usual. Need ?💡..I like the movie Christine but have always liked the blue charger more also the black 72C10 from Dazed and Confused . But not worthy of your research..
Thanks much. Yep, those are already on my to do list and Christine is my favorite car horror movie, which is why I have been saving her for close to Halloween to do, will probably put that one out the week of 😉👍
Could you do a video on Sam and Dean's Impala from the show Supernatural? Thank you
That one is indeed already on my very long to do list, so will do. Thanks👍
Love all your videos. But this is my favorite because like most I loved this truck since I was a child. One quick oversight, though. A 6+4 isn’t a ten speed transmission. A 6+4 is a trucking running two transmissions in this case a 6sp main transmission with a 4sp auxiliary box making for 24 gears. I’m the days of multiple transmissions many configurations could be had.
Cool and glad to hear you are enjoying the channel 😉👍
My best friend's favorite film of all time is this one, soundtracked by his very favorite band, I've seen it 82,000 times, haha! I think some of the audio of the Goblin truck was a V12 Detroit, but I might be mistaken. It's always a 2-stroke Detroit, and they do sound WAY different when they're in their powerband than when they're not, but some stunts sound like smaller/more cylinders. That's just my ears, which are connected to my dumbass head. I may be wrong, but I thought I heard that on some interview with someone from the production company. Mighta just been a fever dream, haha!
Lol, yeah; when it comes to movies, they tend to dub all sorts of things for no apparent reason. Hard telling the whys or what fors when it comes to audio dubbing, especially in car and horror movies; I just know the actual truck had the 8V71T at least 😉
If it was a Warner Brothers production they'd have used the sound bites from Bullitt for the truck engine's, they used them for just about everything they did after 1968 whether it was movies or TV shows.
@@dukecraig2402 LOL, so true! I got so sick of hearing those in every single flipping 80s TV show they did! 😬
@@CarStarz42 Yeah, it for sure did. And honestly, that might've been the only engine sound they ever recorded for it, I just think it sounds like a 12V71 sometimes and I thought I heard that they might've dubbed some 12V71 sounds to make it sound more menacing for certain shots. Maybe not, though. An 8V71T sounds plenty evil on its own. LOVE those old Detroits.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Indeed, I admit I'm not big into semis in general myself, but this one sure sounds great and super mean! 😁👍
And an added fact of this video at approximately the 4:33 mark is the 1984 Peterbilt 362 named Orwell owned by Steve Feszchak who runs the UA-cam channel FSC Trucking.
Yeah, he's cool and was the one recording that video clip as well 😉👍
Always liked that rig. One day I'll see the replica for myself. 😎
Edit: I also find it awesome this video was uploaded on Stephen King's 76th birthday as well. 👍
I'd certainly like to see it too sometime.
Ah, I was wondering if anyone was going to notice it was upped on Steve's b-day; you're the first and only so far, congrats! 😉👍
The 1966 batmobile was the best batmobile made, would you make a video of it. Thank you for the great videos you have already made.
Well, the thing is that the original 60's Batman show is franklin extremely difficult for to even look at for a second with all the grown men stuffed into and running around in kids Halloween costumes, just an awful thing to have to see.
However, I do think the car is cool looking though. I've only had a few folks even ask about that car so far, but if a few more ask, I may grin and bear it and cover it anyways. So, we'll see on that one...
The movie itself is in the 'so bad it's good' category... When it first came out I wanted to see it based purely on the awesome AC/DC soundtrack... but the movie was actually hilarious, even though I'm not sure it was meant to be, which made it even funnier to me... Lol! And that truck is already sold out!
For sure mostly a comedy movie with a killer soundtrack!

$125!?!?!? That's one pricey 1/64 scale diecast truck! I'm pretty sure I don't want it that bad...Lol!
@@Road_Rash True, but considering it's several times larger than like a high detailed standard size road car 1:64 vehicle, like say a GreenLight that's usually around $20 or so, it makes sense. It's also a "monopoly" kind of situation since DCP is currently THE ONLY brand that makes one. 😉

As much as I love Camaros, I don't do CGI heavy movies like the Transformers series as excessive CGI like that just kills it for me. Sorry.
I saw what must have been a replica of the truck on the interstate in Alabama between Eutaw and Tuscaloosa in the early 90s.
I figured someone must have bought one of the dozen set trucks so I didn't think much of it. Now I'm curious.
Interesting indeed, wonder if that replica is still around or not? 🤔
@@CarStarz42 I've got a decent memory but I doubt I'll be able to come up with enough details to figure out where to begin.
I think the trailer was short, it wasn't identical but the face was good. I would have been around 12-15, comics nerd, artist and aspiring mechanic. The mask wasn't perfect but it was good, a little too rounded if memory serves.
It *might* have been as late as 96, went to a couple of concerts back then, I would have been driving and that would explain why I was looking at the other side of the road in such detail.
If you would have extended the clip from fact #4 you can see the actor who played the dead mechanic get up and run after the crash.
Lol, you're right; I never noticed that before! 😁
This is a Longshot, but I'd really love to see a video on the "Black Maria" cattle truck from the ending of the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Might be a tough order there, but I'll add it to my massive list to look into eventually. Thanks😉👍
@CarStarz42 if it helps, there was a post on Facebook many years ago showing the truck in a dilapidated state on someone's property, also IMCDB (internet movie cars database) might give some insight.
@@CarStarz42
How about the truck from Smokey and The Bandit? Have you done it?
It's pretty common knowledge that all the Trans Am's were scrapped after production but I think I've seen where the truck or at least the trailer with that custom mural is still out there somewhere.
As is the truck from the 1978 Sam Peckinpah movie Convoy, complete with the gutted tanker trailer that was a lightweight mod to keep from bogging down the truck, the one destroyed at the end of the movie crashing off the bridge wasn't the hero truck used for principle photography.
