WSL is a leaky vessel. EKLO made it much worse. The mid season cuts and 5 person finals stink. Everyone on tour seems miserable. I rarely watch anymore.
Can we go back to the traditional practice of giving the world title to the surfer who scores the most points in the season, rather than the ultra-hyped winner take all final shootout between the top 5. So lame, totally money motivated,
Can we add, “No suits allowed!” The world is burning on account of unrestrained capitalism. Surfing was a way to get away from that mind set, and now it’s becoming more of the same. I know the WSL sponsors are part of some worthy projects but like the all too familiar, money becomes the driving force. Make Sterling Spencer media CEO to keep it light and REAL! Seriously asked question. How much was his leadership versus the "boards" directive, ultimately? Then the next question...as they want to expand the fan base, and how can you do this while not alienating the tour for those who grew up with this stuff? The wave pool of Kellys, and now his new one in Abu Dhabi, we can certainly read the tea leaves and see how they are trying to tie this expansion all together. With this, we loose tour spots like Cloudbreak and who knows what is next, is a total lowering of the bar. Can this sport grow as they want by keeping this at great breaks in the ocean, or, are we going to have to deal with more and more wave pools located inland to expand the sport? We are stuck in the middle of which way to go.
It's unfortunate. I get it. The sport needs more fans to make more money. But at what cost? I think it is gonna split. We will start to see athletes that have never surfed in the ocean at some point in the future and we will see events far away from the ocean.

Change the name back to ASP as WSL always just sounded lame, go back to the old points format, end the season at Pipe, no wavepool contests and keep the politics/wokism out of it 👍
Going to be interesting to see who can fill Erik’s shoes. And why does that person have to be an American???? Aussie’s do it best! Much more level headed and without the hype.
Why come no one really investigating this dudes background and who he is associated with ? Is he associated and friend with some people that are funding or has money in this sport ? These associated and friends that do not surf or have anything to do with beach . Did this just make money for them self ? Not for the surfers , the sport of competition and what ever other reason ? If this is true ? Expose him , associates and friends of his !
