I'm so used to seeing trapdoors that are just black and dark brown, so it was crazy to see this one with its vivid colors and cool pattern! What a bummer that we only get to see it in rehousing videos😅
I have a liphistius sp. Niphanae and it's black with some colors. The liphistius genus is such a beautiful ancient species of trapdoor. Also very pricey.
this is a spider from suborder Mesothelae, can be uniquely identified by its segmented abdomen and their trapdoor that has lines radiating from the door, there are sister group of the other trapdoor spiders from suborder Mygalomorphae. They are endemic to southern China, southern Asia and Japan
Petko i just wanted to say how much i admire you. I just got out of a very difficult relationship where i lost myself and my passion for everything. Seeing how much you love what you do makes me happy. Youre not only a great distraction but make me fall in love with the hobby again. Thanks for everything bro.
Maybe try adding Tarrus mites into your springtail colony. They are predatory mites that hunt other mites and die off on their own once they have no more prey to hunt.
I think you’ll find clay substrate to be much better for trapdoor spiders, these species are naturally found in clay, you should do some experimenting and share your experiences. On a clay substrate I’d be surprised if it didn’t make a burrow and lid in a matter of hours instead of days. Much better for the structural integrity of their burrows, and plants grow better too.
Iv just stumbled across your videos and how can say it i think you're a genius. The time laps thing is incredible. I love it. Im probably gonna watch all your stuff now tonight. Good stuff!!
hey there Petko, at around 9:43 there are some great threat poses maybe you can use some of them for whatever idea that you're thinking of... Another awesome and informative video. Thanks and I hope your vacation was wonderful.
Hi guess what ? I got my first baby tarantula today thanks to you, I've grown to love them sooo much...😊thank you for helping me love them... God bless you sweetie...hi to your wife and babygirl as well.....
Spiders ,tarantulas, they absolutely terrify me. But they also intrigue me. I think they are scary, and absolutely badass all in one. Cool video. I appreciate your fascination.
As a long term invert keeper it truly pained me to watch you poke the spider around for what seemed like forever in that bin just to get a "threat posture"...
When you only see this spider every two years, it’s understandable to want to maximize the brief time that you get to actually look at it and watch it. I highly doubt this spider is going to be messed with for the next year or two, so the amount of stress being put on it is probably so minimal lol
Im pretty sure that in the time laps i noticed mites in the trap door spiders new enclosure not sure how big an issue that is but i figured id say something
I also have a mite problem 🥲the enclosures of my isopods are full of them. They're hard to get rid of. Fortunately, the enclosures of my tarantulas don't have them. Have a great vacation!
Hey im still pretty new to the invertebrate world but im thinking about geting a bark scorpion any tips for good substrate to try any advice is appreciated 😁
H.O.L.Y. C.O.W. that spider was MAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!! I was jumping every time it bolted. It's so cool looking, I love those colors!!!!
I feed my springtails mushrooms and yeast exclusively. Not sure what you feed yours, but the only time I ever got mites in a spring colony was when I fed them rice. May not always be the case, but in my experience rice = mites.
Petco you should change that enclosure for your trapdoor spider cause of the mites. Don't be surprised if your spider dies cause mites got in the enclosure when you added springtails so I would change it again asap. And you really shouldn't poke it continuously like that just to get a threat posture.
@darkden I watched 8 legged freak an now terrified of spiders. That being said if you came home walked in an all the doors were open what would you do? Is there a contingency plan?
I really enjoyed Mondays video. Something to consider, it is summertime in North America and Europe too I believe. Many people go on holiday and often if people go away for just a weekend they tie Monday into a weekend away. This can affect the viewership. Your numbers might more accurately reflect how many are on vacation lol. Definately do more videos again! Thanks and praise from Peterborough Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 ♥️
I love all your videos Petko. Does your trapdoor spider have a name?. I know sometimes i get a notification that you've uploaded and when i go to see the video i cannot find it 🤷♀️ Perhaps your patreons see it first?. If not i'm just wondering if others have the same problem as me. It resulted in me being a few days late to view the mating video. I'm in the UK. I found this video just fine though ao perhaps a temporary glitch?. Have a good vacation Petko.
The spider hanging from your computer looked like a daddy-long-legs/harvestman which is order Opiliones and oddly related to scorpions. Kind of hard to tell for sure as no closeup and it would be dangling in another spider's web. If not can you identify it? Great video as always!
It is not a daddy long legs as referred to opilliones (harvestmen), but a daddy long legs spider (Pholcidae), most likely Holocnemus pluchei. Pholcids, also known as cellar spiders are true spiders and produce silk for webbing, as opposed to Opilliones that are not actually spiders and can not produce silk, and also lack venom glands.
Why wouldn’t you move the entire trapdoor spiders home with the spider inside into the new enclosure? Seems like tearing it’s door off was unnecessary?
For your springtails: Mites hate water, just add a layer of water that almost reaches the tip of the charcoal and the mites will either drown or vanish by themselfes
did u watch the video with ur brain off? he just said he'll do that
There are mites that also live water and moisture. I have had them in a reptile enclosure, but their population decreased once the humidity decreased.

Dang! That's one gorgeous colored trapdoor spider! I hope you had/or are having, a great vacation!

That roach is gonna tell the others one hell of a story! I hope there aren't any pesky mites in the enclosure.
That is a beautiful spider! Even if it didn't finish making the trapdoor that was a really cool timelapse to watch
What a beautiful spider. Love the orange coloring.

Such a beautiful spider! She is really nicely coloured. Thank you for your video, perfect as usual 👌
wow i use to watch this channel a really long time ago! glad to see it’s still growing and evolving

So glad that the glacial silt reached you Petko!
This is a beautiful trapdoor spider 🎉 awesome rehousing!

Cool video. I appreciate your fascination.
Another great video!! Hope you have an awesome vacation!!
You help me get over my fear of spiders along with kat and Dave as well thank you for that
Loved the time lapse of the spider building it's (half) trapdoor. Hope you manage to capture the rest of the webbing action.
As a long term invert keeper it truly pained me to watch you poke the spider around for what seemed like forever in that bin just to get a "threat posture"...
Yea me too. I skipped the whole part because I didn't want to see and it was one of the very few vids I didn't like.
Same here
Hhk

mites in the springtail colony, thats something i didnt know could happen. Thanks for the info!!!
Wow, im not really a fan of spiders, but this guy looks so dope looking. Such a pretty color! 😍
I was wondering how you make the doors and enclosures? Do you already have a video on this? Is not could you make one explaining how you do it?
Would love to see that springtail rehousing video!
so glad to get an update! I always show people the last trap door spider video when I introduce them to the channel :D
That is a very beautiful trapdoor spider. I love the coloration. Two very bright coloration. It's very pretty.
Great video! Enjoy vacation! ❤
I'd rather wait and see the spider build it's home when its more relaxed rather then stressed by the lights.
Beautiful spicy spider! Love the sounds! Have a lovely holiday with your family! Great video!
Those colours are gorgeous.
Imagine making a human sized trap door spider trap and grabbing the post mates person as they approach your front door with food. 🤣🤣🤣
That's a beautiful trapdoor, those colours ❤
Love your channel. Do you sell your merch in USD? I didn't see that option available.
lmao, what's a threat posture? no room for a trapdoor to care about that, it bites 😂 gorgeous spider.
Petco you know we already knew we were gonna get some sand action but thanks for the heads up!!! Awesome rehoming and keep up the hard work!!!
How beautiful 😍 (I'm so sorry to hear of the mites incident 😔)
Awesome Video Dark Den
Hey im still pretty new to the invertebrate world but im thinking about geting a bark scorpion any tips for good substrate to try any advice is appreciated 😁
Hello great video rehousing Petcko
Wow So darn cool love it thanks so very much..enjoy your time off
you r amazing ! I only can guess at how much I've learned from you. this could be a educational course. thank you !!!
Are you gonna go to Animal con this year I didn't see u listed for meets and greets
next time you rehouse the spider, you can try and keep the front part of the trapdoor + web tunnel, and use that as a premade burrow instead.
H.O.L.Y. C.O.W. that spider was MAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!! I was jumping every time it bolted. It's so cool looking, I love those colors!!!!
I guess one can call that Orange Bity Thing, too, right?😂 But it is beautiful. Have a nice vacation!🌞

That's the most amazing looking trap door spider. Love it❤
So cool spider. I wanted him to my collection, but I can't find any breeder in my country who have them
Oh my glob! It's SO pretty! It's a shame you never see it out, it's a cute little bugger. X
Can you wrap it with magnetic shading like black walls so when u take it away we might be able to see inside? like ants almost?
This is quite facinating to see how spiders live and how to take care of them haha.
No rainbow spider shirts available for female sizing. I'm willing to wear a male cut, but what would the size conversion be?

Hey petko love from Slovenia! Love your videos, hope your doing great! 😀😁
Thank you for sharing 😊😊😍😍
4:37 :"Look mom!! i'm in the dark den! i'm on youtube!"
Love your Videos! What kind of substrate did you use in the Trapdoor Enclosure?
mix of coco fiber, potting soil and peat moss
Is this a different species from the last one? It’s a lot more brightly coloured and larger than the one roughly three years ago.
Such a gorgeous spider
It's a shame to see the last video not doing so well, it was a good video! =)
I LOVE the trap door he made previously 😍
You are a very good UA-camr.
thx :3
Always nice to watch your videos, update on your biggest spider ???

Awesome video, what kind of trap door spider is it? Thank you for all the entertainment

Cool video! are trap door venomous? I always thought they had a bad bite?
I also assume but I don't have a real data
Why not put the spider on a bigger enclosure so you dont have to change so many times?
Do a vid on the Springtail
UA-cam didn't show me last week video now that you mention it in this one
Do you do international shipping to the US?
what species of trap door is this?
My baby tarantulas is Aphonopalma seemanni Costa Rican Zebra ..what you think k of that 😊😊😊😊❤
The sound of it slapping the inside of that tub 😮
The webbing is so awesome and really quite beautiful.
you should tell us what video you were talking about
We love you Petco! 🐈 My child and I -- from Scotland.
I can't wait until Petko builds human enclosures.

Petko, what was your very first tarantula? I feel like I knew the answer once but I’ve forgotten 😅
Petko just bullying that spider :D (I know, he didnt actually do anything bad to it, but i still felt sorry :D )
But its a beautiful one for sure
Spider, spider, trapdoor spider what ya gonna do?
Spider, spider...
