Not necessarily! That stuff definitely helps but I think that every character has potential to win locals, especially DK. For DK specifically, I think that the average player might need a little bit of bracket luck in order to get it done though. By that I mean the DK would have to run into some favorable matchups like swordies while avoiding some rough matchups like certain zoners / top tiers like Pika, Palu, G&W, etc. Plus, all locals are different. Some locals have varying skill levels depending on the region you're in and who consistently goes to each one. I can guarantee you that there are definitely locals out there that get won by bad characters like DK, Little Mac, or even Ganon. It just depends on the tournament!
Hey noodl, you play like I used to before I quit playing. Who taught you to do all that with dk? Those are my moves. You're the first dk other than me to ever do them and do them consistently. I wonder if you once played me online 🤔 BTW, good job bro. That you're doing all this prevents me from wanting to come back and show everyone how dk is to really be played. You're a more fundamental player than me too since I was so isolated so that's especially good. There's just a couple things I used to do that you don't and I think it would help you some. Run off down b off the ledge, there's a shortened version and the long one, the long one going further down than the shortened. I saw you do it once here and it was the shortened one, but you didnt connect with it and makes me believe you dont use it much for that reason. You can also do a wave bounced down b off the ledge for certain characters or stages. Final thing is going straight to ledge after knocking someone off. Do a ledge jump from ledge and you have everything covered, you can be ready to cover options from above or below (using down b). Another thing I like to do is that if you go straight to ledge and you read that they're going to try to recover from low, immediately do a ledge getup and do a runoff down b. This mixup ALWAYS helped me take a stock. Oh, the final thing is to not forget that when you're recovering you can mixup your opponent some by doing reverse or wavebounced up b. I saw you do it once or twice and I dont watch you to know how often you do it but it does help with recovery and also after cargo downthrow offstage away from stage, where you jump forward instead afterward and carry the opponent back to the stage with you with the up b.
