I stayed in the libraries and that's where I learned to read. I began to love books so much that I even found my way to starting a college education. Now I am a homeless liaison, city councilor, homeowner, etc.
At a Fort Worth TX resident, that story is absolutely true, it’s unbelievable how the city tucks away 100’s of people away from the Stockyard/Tourist areas, and the uptown community. They’re forced onto Lancaster Ave, FW has a massive commercial train service going to warehouses, some of the trains are more than a mile long. My daughter rented a house off of Lancaster Ave. and Collard Rd. There were loads of people, many in a zombie state walking around. She loved to cook large meals than take plates of food to the park near the Salvation Army office. But things got out of hand, for example she had taken the kids on a camping trip, came home, unloaded the car, and dumped out the cooler, and all the water from the melted ice. She left the drinks, and water in her backyard where she’d dumped it out, but forgot to go out and bring them in. So the next morning she went out to grab the drinks and they were all gone. When she finally decided to move out, she had to leave a mattress, box spring and frame leaning against the back of the house since it wouldn’t fit in the truck. She ran to her new home, came back and the mattress was gone. She’d only be away about an hour. She doesn’t know where the lurkers were hiding, she was 3 blocks off of Lancaster Ave. but the reason she moved was because the fun violence was so loud and scary she and my grand kids had to drag their mattresses into the interior hall way to sleep, so they were away from the Windows. There’s a lot more to it, involving the police and a murder suspect hiding in her detached garage, but it’s too much to type. Google earth Collard Rd, and Mt. Vernon, charming century old homes, that’s where she lived close to, ON Mt. Vernon. You will see Lancaster Ave. south of Mt. Vernon, follow it West and I suspect you will see what the young man was talking about. Or Beach St. And Lancaster Ave. Ft.Worth TX
I don't know if it counts because I was only homeless for 5 months. I would go to any job interviews, go to stores that were open 24/7, libraries and do chores to stay at various friends' houses. Eventually after 5 months, I saved up enough money, rented a very small room. Then got a professional job, rented a small apartment and now on my own feet by the grace of God. It was scary at first but there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
First, get a shower. Then, go check my mail, then go to the library to check my email. Look around, say hello to my fellow homeless friends. Then it was time to get in line for lunch. Medical/dental appointments in the afternoon. Pick up a meal at any number of locations for dinner. Then it was hanging out at the truck stop, free coffee and we could smoke inside then. Go out to Walmart to park and sleep. Did that for almost 8 months. Summer, hot as sh*t.
I was blessed to have a car! I would park in places that had shade preferably near malls, gas stations, stores with public restrooms after getting breakfast at the soup kitchen, hygiene at the gym, laundry check mail, get to shelter early
