We pretty much did the exact same on my ex taxi au. Had like 600ks on the thang and lasted another 8 months with the turbo on it absolutely flat foot everywhere. Never changed the oil never serviced it. Loved life until one super cold morning I threw a rod because it was over boosting from the cold air 😂😂
Keep it sohc 4.0 i reckon! Chang GT3582 turbo, bigger injectors, pump and tune and this thing would go real well... but then again... dont care hahaha. Awesome video guys, can't wait to see it drifting!👍🏻
AU SOHC > RB20. AU engines are cheap and will make 57.836x the torque of the 2L. 300kW from an AU engine is nothing for it. The standard reg is also boost referenced but more fuel pressure never hurts. If you run an oil restrictor you need to water cool the turbo. Please keep it SOHC it will be soo much better!
If you get the ute to be around 1400kg with a RB20 and a diff ratio of 4:11, the RB will be able to move it just as if it was in a ceffy or laurel right? It helps that I own two ceffs AND an AU ;)
@@bigcazza5260 Huh? that's not how gears work mate. like cefiros, laurels, r32s all have a diff ratio of 4.36. The reason? because RB20's rev to fucking 8 grand and the power band is like from 3k to 6.5k rpm so the diff ratio IS that low for the sake of keeping the torque multiplier high in peak power. Ford have low ratios like 3.08 / 3.23 / 3.45 due to having " a big torquey 6 that doesn't rev in a family car designed to idle at 100" but even with the bog warmer the first gear is still too high for it to be quick off the line and worse in the auto.
@@ceffydriver i know how gearing works, me at 12:84 doing 11k rpm ~ = mates going 10:86 at 15k rpm point is you are still moving through power band quicker. could have used a 3.45 and had twice the time spent between 5 and 8 grand where the rb is actually gunna pull, rather than shifting it 3 times to keep it in that rev range
@@bigcazza5260 Yeah I don't think you get it mate. Diff ratios , specifically low ones are torque multipliers, it has nothing to do with "the amount of time the engine is spent in the powerband" and more of the overall speed in gears. Change the end ratio or tyre size and the speed in gears goes up / down linearly. Like I said though, a stripped AU ute that weighs 1400kg with a rb20det and 4:11 diff is going to act the same as my cefiro that is 1360kg (dry) with a rb20det and 4:11 diff ratio. (one with a 33 diff and Kaaz 1.5 way) I own two ceffs, one stagea and a AU, driven many (worked on) a 32 and 33s so I think I know my way around cars a bit. But what the fuck would I know right? I think you are getting mixed up with what it is to get an object moving, you see it's torque that "does work" and by "doing work" means moving weight forward and a lower ratio can move more weight by having more tractive force at the cost of peak gear speed. This is the sole reason why ford used the 3.45 ratios in the xr6 to bring on power delivery sooner and make it feel lively.
