I first saw this film on tv when I was about 13 years old. It was a very bad time in my life when I could not find happiness or a reason to live. After seeing it, I was able to find faith that things were going to change and that there was a higher presence where I could find love. Today, 60 years later, I am still grateful for the message of this story.

Your story shows how movies can be of service to people when they are done with goodwill. We all have difficult times and question our reason for being. God bless you always.
I totally agree this movie was special! I know without a doubt Christ does exist! There always been spiritual battles between good over evil? Good has always in time won. I wish movies today were still being made as this great movie was! It wouldn't hurt if everyone watched this awesome film!..❤️🙌

Looking for this film most of my life. Saw it as a kid in the 50s but couldn’t remember the name of this beautiful and inspirational movie. Only remembered the last scene I won’t mention not to spoil it for others. Beautiful, spiritual, wonderful and loving!
I loved this movie! It was comforting, Robert Cummings was at his best! I have been very sick, finding out my daughter is very ill? I find it very strange this movie came up? It actually helped me. ❤️

i ABSOLUTELY LOVED!!! this movie. THANK you kindly for sharing it with us. It is so Pure a message...and ironically perfect for these times..of extreme good and evil...that we are integrating into the Soul...as we become more Loving and Whole. Blessings and Light to all who pause to watch this gem. Aloha from Hawaii.
Great film. The very end where He talks about tired and looks to the camera, to the audience, gives shivers. Another Bob Cummings classic. Thanks, Foxy and Mangle for posting.
Hmmm .. Don't know anyone today who had as hard a heart as Genghis Khan who killed a million people in one day and raped so many women that many, many people in the world today have some of his DNA. Or Adolph Hilter and his Jewish solution killing 6 million Jews. Seems like peoples hearts have gotten softer but we only see what we want to see and those that want to see an apocalypse will always exaggerate such things.
A fantastic movie with words and concepts taken right out of the Bible. "You'll be rich beyond you're wildest dreams!" Amen! Once a person possesses the Kingdom of God through Christ, it's like having the most precious pearl in the world, and no earthly possessions can compare!
Thank You So Very Much...this is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot being 59 yrs old! I’m a bit surprised that I haven’t found this gem before now, being I’m one who loves old movies, especially ones like this.I found this just around Christmas so I consider it a gift of the times.I really needed to see a movie about good over evil, and that there were people who did the right thing no matter how difficult it was. I truly believe there are still a few a very few people that still believe in this and I’m one. I look forward to meeting others like myself when the time comes. THANKS AGAIN...GOD BLESS...MERRY CHRISTMAS
What an uplifting film and loads of fun in screenwriting and context. So hilarious at times. Love movies that plant good seeds into the garden of the viewers' mind - if not to just look at things differently for a change.
I saw this movie many times as a youngster when it was shown on early NYC TV in 1950's. Loved it so much that with the same name as its leading actor, Robert Cummings, I took the name "Michael" for Confirmation. I also mirrored the boy, Speck, since I was a poor eater, too. The story is entertaining, religious, but not preachy. Looked high and low for a VHS copy but never could find one. Did find many fans of this film tried the same. So glad I could see it again on TCM and here after so many years.
That was more wonderful than it had to be. I've only seen Cummings in comedic roles. He was scintillating in this one. Remarkable; this simple tableau of humility, as the angelic gets to peer into the inner workings of a human heart. Thank you for the concept.
Great moral story. And Robert Cummings plays his role excellent!!!!!!! The actor who plays the main character also did a great job. Him and Robert Cummings. I'm not a big fan of Westerns but this one has a great storyline. With a moral message that's applicable even today!!! We actually need more stories like this today to inspire and uplifting society.👍👍👍👍👍😊
Boy, they haven't made movies like this in a long while! This one is about as good and wholesome as it gets.Thank you for sharing a classic classic movie! When they put God back in the movies, you couldn't expect more! Kudos! God bless!
Back viewing again due to the current shutdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m enjoying it even more this time. What a fantastic collection of great actors.
The one thing that speaks to me in this film is that the Lord has a destiny/predestined path for His people. As the movie shows, this path is not at all as we might expect. There are unexpected hardships on our path. In these hardships the film acts out our Lord's words: "I will NEVER leave you NOR forsake you." This is a great comfort to the heart.
The writer of this movie certainly had a handle on the Word of God. So many truths here, including when Michael says that death is just like removing an old coat that you don't need anymore, similar to what Paul says about leaving his earthly 'tabernacle.' Even the way they pronounced Michael as "Mika-El' which is the Hebrew pronunciation of that name, meaning Who is like God (El). I mostly liked when he talks about guns being fake power and the real power (the knowledge of God and doing His will) will make you (spiritually) rich beyond your wildest dreams. These are deep spiritual truths that someone who was unfamiliar with what the Bible teaches about these matters would not have been able to explain so well about them as was certainly done here. Aubrey Wisberg must have been a believing Jew, or else was very close to being one. Another truth is when Michael tells Duke that his plans to take over at all costs will never succeed because there will always be another man and another man, and they will join together and they will end your treachery, if you don't "repent and do unto others the same way you want them to do to you.' The pastor made clear that vigilante violence comes from human sinful nature and is NEVER the way of the Lord. This is a lesson that some on the far-right of the American political spectrum need to understand today (or at least those who call themselves Christians among these groups whose threat of a violent overthrow of the government is unscriptural and dangerous). An all-around lovely inspirational and hopeful movie that makes clear that faith in a merciful God and in the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus is the requirement of reserving your place in heaven and someday, we will we say goodbye to this planet and if we have believed these things, will leave our earthly dwellings behind and receive our new eternal bodies that will live forever with God in a forever-wonderful place that is being prepared for us by our Lord.
Grew up with such a crush on Bob Cummings. I watched everything from films to TV....he never failed to please! Donlevy was a Classy scoundrel & did it so well. We'll never have anctors or films like this. Hollywood died quite a few years ago!

Thank you! That made my day. A profound look at human nature and faith. The culture was Christian in those days - even non- believers would not question the societal premises upon which the movie is based: God IS and is all wise and powerful; Jesus Christ was his embodiment on earth; goodness and righteousness are of God, evil and sin from Satan; love is more important than lust...just to name a few...This movie is a wonderful summation and culmination of the wisdom God gave to the "Greatest Generation" - a look at the mass psyche after the seemingly impossible had been achieved - VE &VJ Day...
these kind of films give you a lift, corny, old fashioned, yes, but give you hope, american films ,especially this period, were great. sadly todays movies are just money makers. and mostly crap.
Today's movies also tend to have subdued colors, sometimes looking all brownish. Maybe this is the result from using green screens for the special effects.
Yes, this was a very nice story. The child having to leave and the mother knowing it was very touching to me as the miracle was to spark light and not change Time's direction.
Where's all the filthy language and gratuitous sex scene's, oh I forgot this was made when all that was needed was a good storyline, usually with a moral message woven into it which made the viewer feel good. I love the ending, " Your home son, your home." Steve, Sydney Australia.
It's encouraging to read comments like yours from across the sea. There is still a sense of Biblical morality in the world. As my 90 year old mother tells people about the world's condition: "This is what you have left when you reject God." ( The Biblical God Old and New Testament is one in the same). Live in faith accordingly.
Stephen I completely agree. I am disgusted when I try to watch what I think will be a good movie for my wife me only to have the gratuitous sex and vulgarity. I absolutely hate it .

You. Need to read your Bible when you get in a mood that you get in believe me it will help you so much and it will put you to sleep please get close to God Almighty and his son jesus christ please so we can see each other in heaven
I have seen Michael the Archangel standin behind a preacher at the German-language Easter service at Concordia Kirche in DC about 1982 or so. Two other angels were with him.
About 35 years later I thought, "Well maybe 'God" will tell me if that was a well known angel" so I asked and was revealed that answer. He was about 12 feet in height and the other two with him were about 8 feet. @@susansackrison3139
More interesting fact. A college student was in our town. He was German on both sides, to the extent that he was very pale with red-blond hairs. He labeled himself as a homosexual atheist. I thought "Well rather than to debate with him about 'God' I'll give to him some music." I gave to him a double CD with the Brandenburg Concerti. When he played them the room became filled with a distinctive feeling that was the same feeling that accompanied Archangel Michael. That same feeling I felt in the early 1960s in our Congregational Church a few times, therefore I can infer that Michal was present there and then, although I did not see him. @@susansackrison3139
I SAW THS MOVIE, IN NEW YOK CITY, AT MY GREAT AUNTS HOME, AROUND 1950 !!!!! I HAVE REMEMBERED IT,AND, HAVE LOVE IT, EVER SINCE !!!!!! ROBERT CUMMINGS HAS MY FAVORITE, EVER SINCE !!!!!!! THIS PICTURE IS REAL TEAR JERKER, BUT, I WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT !!!!!!!
Due to an error in Heaven, Adam "Duke" Byron, is born without a soul in 1858. The "Book of Destiny" shows that he was supposed to marry a minister's daughter in 1885, two years prior to the present, and set a fine moral example. Instead, he is a saloon keeper and gambling hall owner in Glacier, Montana. As it was the fault of his department, Michael is sent to set Duke on the life path for which he was destined, but Michael must do so as a human being, without miracles, not even a small one.
I saw this movie on TV as a child in the 1950s. Funny how the coach ride to heaven impressed me so very much since it was my first encounter with death.
Thanks much for this. I first viewed this on TV and it (quite surprisingly) kept my interest from start to finish. Finally got to count the number of people standing around that table in the opening scene. Keep your eyes on Gerald Mohr throughout.
This movie is so wonderful with the witty side of it and the good versus evil going on. I loved how Mr. Treason couldn't keep the "fire' burning..lol... Adam 'Duke' Byron (Brian Donlevy) will have some good stories to tell his 3 kids. Thank you.
Short of God sending an angel down like in this movie, the odds of Hollywood would come out with a movie like this would be astronomical. That's because it illustrates redemption... The cross and owning your own c**p. But without being preachy. I was really discouraged when I started to watch this movie. After watching it I don't feel so all alone. I know I'm not the only one. For some of us life is not like a Chair full of Bowlies. One would think that Hollywood would like to be part of something positive. But instead they give us poison and tell us it's good. Anyhow it was a great movie and I think I'm going to watch it again. Along with a pint of Haagen-Dazs and a box of Kleenex.
Perhaps you remember a song called "You Light Up My Life"? Many believed it was about the love a girl felt for her boyfriend. It wasn't! Debbie Boone wrote it to express her love for Christ Jesus! It won the Academy Award for best song.
It will be more gentle once you pass over in faith in Jesus Christ. The moment you leave you body you will feel more alive then you have ever felt on Earth. You will have your personal welcoming committee (i.e. people you knew in life that passed away in faith of Jesus personal sacrifice for them) waiting for you to take you the rest of the way to your Heavenly Father's throne. To get to this point is not always an easy journey.
Absolutely LOVED this movie..it is light hearted and deep, corny and real, touching, funny and wise.. and speaks the Wisdom of the Ages..the message as relevant today as it was then..and ever will be.
Amazing ... I came across this movie by sheer chance, and I'm so glad I did ... thoroughly enjoyed this story, from beginning to end ... until we meet up yonder
What a Gem of a movie! Once the reality of life is realized, and that it's purpose was set before us, that is when we search our heart and change our ways. We are convicted by our conscience, the Spirit of our Creator, so that when we get to the crossroad we are at perfect peace because we stayed the course through Him. \o/
+Dini athome "Hidden in plain sight" is a popular phrase these days, watching this again, I realized that when Duke gives the money to Michael, and he is holding it, looking at the back of the bill says, "ah they will be so pleased with the likeness" hmmmm!
@Dini , The reference to the bills was that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln likeness are printed on our currency, and as they must be in Heaven, Mike the Angel is going to show them the bills when he gets back to Heaven with Little Speck ..
1947 Heaven Only Knows: I don't think I've ever seen Bob Cummins so young as he was in this. For the time period it was made it is a good movie. Delivery a non violent way of life.
A video on youtube with an actual review! I'd actually forgotten how much is lost without knowing any details on a post. It's gotten so bare bones they don't even identify who a speaker is or what the event is about! Movies usually have notes at least. Thanks for the reminder of when information was available.

This movie helped me remember what life is really all about, helped me get over that spell of feeling tired, reminded me that it doesn't mean a thing.
That's a really sweet comment!
The ending of this just tears me up like nothing else. I watch it when I am down and depressed which is most of the time.
You. Need to read your Bible when you get in a mood that you get in believe me it will help you so much and it will put you to sleep please get close to God Almighty and his son jesus christ please so we can see each other in heaven
The Bible and other spiritual literature help me with anxiety and depression...Peace and blessings from Little Falls, New York
Beautiful! Thank you for uploading with no ads. Much appreciated!
I have seen Michael the Archangel standin behind a preacher at the German-language Easter service at Concordia Kirche in DC about 1982 or so. Two other angels were with him.
How do you know it was Michael?
About 35 years later I thought, "Well maybe 'God" will tell me if that was a well known angel" so I asked and was revealed that answer. He was about 12 feet in height and the other two with him were about 8 feet.

A wonderful movie of faith and belief in god and the power of good ....🙏💖
that little kid was a terrific actor
Due to an error in Heaven, Adam "Duke" Byron, is born without a soul in 1858. The "Book of Destiny" shows that he was supposed to marry a minister's daughter in 1885, two years prior to the present, and set a fine moral example. Instead, he is a saloon keeper and gambling hall owner in Glacier, Montana. As it was the fault of his department, Michael is sent to set Duke on the life path for which he was destined, but Michael must do so as a human being, without miracles, not even a small one.
Perfect casting for Bob Cummings.
so much wisdom in the movie, values sometimes lost in modern society.
all of them and people clapping to it.
This movie fulfilled my heart with happiness.
This is a lovely little gem. Thank you for posting it.
Robert Cummings, Marjorie Reynolds, and Brian Donlevy. I loved them when I was a kid.
I love it when its always the single schoolteacher or librarian who becomes the love interest
Those were the only places for women in those days, or nursing. I'm glad some things have changed!
This movie is so wonderful with the witty side of it and the good versus evil going on.
I loved how Mr. Treason couldn't keep the "fire' burning..lol...
Adam 'Duke' Byron (Brian Donlevy) will have some good stories to tell his 3 kids.
Thank you.
You need to read more about Brian Donlevy.
Xera01 In the movie Donlevy's character is destined to marry Drusilla and have 3 children together. That's what Annette is referring to.
So much in this very old film...unlike modern 'lost' soul over priced movies...good simple writing/message especially for now...thank you.
It won the Academy Award for best song.
thank you for a lovely movie. i enjoyed every minute of it. i wish the end of life would really be as gentle. God Bless.
Wow such an awesome movie once you start watching it you can't stop.A lot of the older movies are like that for some good reason
...putting heaven's truth at earthly doors; thanks, Timothy Ley
+Dini athome
It was just a film Dini. Mildly funny and entertaining perhaps, but just a little bit of Hollywood fiction.
"With God all things are possible." aka the Creator of lightheartedness, creativity and humor.
@@lisashea9505 WELL PUT!!!

You took the link right out of my keyboard!
Wouldn’t say this was a non violent movie...🤣🤣🤣
A video on youtube with an actual review! I'd actually forgotten how much is lost without knowing any details on a post. It's gotten so bare bones they don't even identify who a speaker is or what the event is about! Movies usually have notes at least. Thanks for the reminder of when information was available.
Wonderful movie 🎥! Thank you for uploading this movie 🎥! So good!
It’s 2:20 am . Watching my second classic movie for the evening until 8:00am when I go for my 6th chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
