    Many of the tools don’t need redesigned. “If it ain’t broke, no need to fix it.” They have done a great job of bringing well made and affordable tools to those who are tired of paying the prices on the tool trucks.

    HF shouldn't even bother selling chemicals unless they sell them discounted or at least at cost. Otherwise a waste of space on the shelf. Reminds me of when they had spray paint in a locked case no one ever bought.

    *sigh* Icon isn't actually coming up with anything, it's a ODM (Original distribution manufacturer), HF just contracts them to put their name on it. Look at Matcos newer water pump pliers, they're the exact same as the Doyles from HF.

      Harbor freight claims to have a development center where they test and develop tool designs. That said, they have yet to come out with a truly unique product to my knowledge. As you said, it’s still just ODMing the same as Quinn and Pittsburgh, just with higher quality control and better suppliers

      @TonyTheTechnician  2 місяці тому

      @thetank2078 ya lol they should try using that development center for once. While I'm happy with what they have. I get it, everyone copies, but dang come on now. Come up with something unique.

      @TonyTheTechnician unique =/= useful. Knipex is way overrated anyway.

    The Knipex Twin Grip is amazing. I bought them originally because I seem to have a plier fetish. 😅 They aren't the everyday plier but, after I used them a couple of times, I was so impressed, I bought a second pair so I could have one handy in a travel kit. Recently, I ran into a situation where I ended up using them for several hours on dozens of screws. Not sure how I might have completed the task, or how long it would have taken without them. Like many specialty tools, you might not need them every day, but when you need them,you usually REALLY need them. Vampliers were god, Twin grips better.

    Hello again, Tony
    Thank you for another Great Video 👍 You know, I think most tool companies copy one another. In fact, I thought by now one of them would have copied the Milwaukee Insider Ratchet? Again thank you 😅

  • @warbearwilliam1149
    @warbearwilliam1149 2 місяці тому +1

    I think having cheaper copies actually helps the original to some extent. It makes it a more apples to apples comparison where the main difference is the quality. So the original can actually justify their price tag. The copiers market also isn’t always the same as the originals either. Knipex makes tools for professionals that want the best tools. HF sells tools to budget minded people, professionals and DIY that probably weren’t gonna buy the Knipex anyways. Also, Knipex is a company that so thoroughly designs their tools that a company like HF would really just be wasting their time to come with a stand out design.

      Absolutely 100% agree. That's why even though it's annoying to see a complete copy, I completely understand it, it's a smart business move and it's an affordable option for weekend warriors diyers or if you know you won't use a tool much no sense in spending extra for it.

    That price on the shop price is a little steep. Look out for 20% coupons for that or a $50 off sale on it. I paid $140 for mine a few years ago. Works great and couldn't have bought the steel, hardware and jack for that price.

    I like my viking 1700 jump start with AC but the AC never works. Returned one just to get the same issues with the next one. Can't tell if that's my luck or it's a known problem because I don't see anyone else mention it.

    Almost all of the chemicals at harbor freight are made in the USA. Icon is approaching the major tool brands watch for sales.

  • @james5274
    @james5274 2 місяці тому +1

    Icon producing tools similar to other more expensive brands if nothing else is good for the consumer. Imagine snap on or knipex lower their prices to something just a little more reasonable to compete.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  2 місяці тому +1

      While I do agree it's good for those who don't need the better version and it's good for business, I can guarantee those big names won't be dropping prices to compete. Although that would be great lol

    I always love your vids, Tony. And I love this one. But getting annoyed at ICON for copying others is time wasted. After Obama signed into law the "America Invents Act",
    it basically gave free rein for any company to run ramped over one another and copy other designs. (A communist move IMO.) And it goes WAY further than tools.
    Remember the Fiat/Chrysler redesign of the RAM in 2009? They had that cool "spoiler" effect on the top of the tailgate. Enter the Ford F-150 redesign in 2015..... Spoiler effect.
    Not related to your channel........ But VOTE people like Obama OUT. This may restore pattens, and/or common sense. ;)

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  2 місяці тому +1

      Ya I completely understand. People copy things all the time. But a majority of the time a company will still make some things themselves with there own design and some similar to others. But idk if icon has any hand tools they have actually put design thought into. It's just annoying but I completely understand it. And shoot honestly lots of people buy them, so looking at it from a business point of view it's genius lol. But I love new tools and when new tools are released just to be a cheap copy of another is sometimes disappointing if that makes sense lol. I appreciate your input. Thank you for watching.
