What’s better than a Porsche? How about a Porsche that’s not actually a Porsche? This is the story of Germany’s most notorious tuning company, the outfit that turned ordinary Porsche bodies into some of the most fearsome sports cars the world has ever seen. Funny thing is, game developers used RUF as a workaround for EA's Porsche licence. Now it's expired and everyone's just using Porsches, people want RUF back! They're that damn terrifyingly awesome!

@Hirouka Akita This happened once LONG before the exclusivity deal. Test Drive II: The Duel had a 959, and later as part of the "Supercars" expansion, the Yellowbird.
And then you have each of the Forza Motorsport 4 and 6, and Horizon 2 (All DLC for this delisted 4 months ago, sorry!) and 3, and later Assetto Corsa, which had RUFs in the base car list, and then Porsche as DLC.
You think putting options allowing to put Ruf parts on Porsche's would go?

The way that guy was driving the yellowbird around the Nurburgring was awe inspiring. Especially when you've heard all the stories of how hard the original 930 turbos were to drive on the limit, and that was in standard form. So that's one sorted 911piloted by one seriously talented driver. Also, for someone like Porsche to send out blank chassis to allow another company to build their own versions of the legendary 911 from scratch goes to show just how good RUF is. Much respect. 911s kick ass! A little pricey though.

Remember seeing a Yellowbird as a child with my dad flying down the highway through the middle of the metroplex. It was glorious as he hit the off ramp going easily over a buck thirty. The turbo spool was immense,the cops were in tow,the car was yellow.

Not really. It was the quintessential boat since its intro in GT2 up to GT4 and 5 I preferred the Yellow Bird and the BTR(even though the Yellow Bird was the complete opposite of the CTR2 oversteering like hell)

Once upon a time i was on a schooltrip without phones so we the car guys decided to spot cars the entire trip and then on one highway i saw a cool ”porsche” that was wide and new looking like a gt3 but blended with the old look of porches, i fell in love. If something that is RUF-made goes wrong, they will simply tell you to send the car back to them for repair. And if you can't afford that, then they will offer to send out a mechanic (or two) on full pay, and all expenses, flying business class. And if you can't afford that, sorry - you are shit out of luck. RUF will never provide you with any technical data, service or repair procedures, documentation, or any assistance whatsoever. Problem with the engine your Porsche shop can't diagnose? Something wrong with the transmission? Gee, that's a shame.
In all honesty... your average consumer is not picking one of these up... soooooo yeah your point, while valid is meaningless.
I had some minor issues with my RT12 when they were in limbo with their US distribution and they were willing to help the Porsche shop that was working on it . I'm not sure what your personal experience with issues on a Ruf has been but it surely hasn't been the same as mine. They have a distributor in SoCal now that can service them and they have direct communication with Ruf in Germany. This shop is pretty low-key but Ruf owners know where to go when we need them.
