I didn't know this could happen until a month before our road trip to Alaska. And most of the deaths could have been prevented if only they knew too. That is why I am making this video.
@@NickandJulie This will be my first trip to Alaska. My van should be complete in mid February. We will do some travel in the lower 48 until Spring when we will head up north. I have enjoyed your videos.
This is just crazy and soo sad! I was reading a quick sand book to kids a few months ago.. so many sad occurrences.. they say to lie down sideways to get out but it’s probably not as easy as it sounds.
it’s a horrible way to go. I was reading news articles about the 18 year old girl and it was just awful. You’re right , it looks like it would be easy to get out but if her husband tried to get her out for 3 hours and couldn’t- this isn’t something we can comprehend. Thankfully this doesn’t happen often. And people are rescued too, not everyone dies when they get stuck.
I forgot to put earthquakes in the list too. Earthquake of 1964 happened in Alaska Richter scale 9.2- one of the strongest recorded in North America. We’ll talk more about it when we visit Valdez- the town that had to be moved bc of it.
Wowzers! It kind reminds me when I was a kid in Panama and we were out in the mud flats and the tide came in. The difference was that we could have been eaten by sharks. Lol. I really love your videos. Thanks so much.

That’s when the Adeana Dickison death happened in July ‘88. I was wondering if you heard anything about that at the time?
sounds like everything up there wants to kill you. but from the videos i have seen it looks very beautiful. sad for me i can not even afford to get out of ca, but if i ever could i would love to spend a summer up there. as i am retired, not looking very good for such a trip.
That’s kinda how it is up here in the vast wilderness. You really get the sense of how fragile humans really are. Never had that feeling before until up here. I hope you get to go!

I hope they have signs warning newbies about this hazard of the mud flats.
I believe they do have signs at the main entries but the Cook Inlet/ turnagain arm is so huge they are not at every possible beach entry.

Naw. I spent 3 days at Elmendorf AFB and then flown out to an island. But your right know your environment.
