I bet that I have everyone beat regarding my Trailblazer.....a white 2002 LS AWD. It has 489,000 miles on it presently. The engine has never been opened up, and what's more, it seriously does not use any oil between 3,000 mile oil changes. The engine purrs just wonderfully. I live in Illinois, and just pulled a trailer with piano in it to my daughter's house in Denver, drove 1,000 miles around the mountains, and back 1,000 miles. It cruised along in top gear at 75 mph pulling the trailer, 2,200 rpm. This is without question the most reliable vehicle that I have ever owned. I have done very little to it. Even the exhaust system is original. So only 11,000 miles to go, and I will celebrate the 500,000 mile mark!

My '02 has 190K miles, and is by far the best car I've ever owned. The body is very resistant to rusting. Be on the alert for a number of issues: The rear trailing link mount brackets on the frame rust badly, the power steering and transmission cooler lines rust away, the front hubs wear. You can upgrade all of the exterior and interior lights with LED lamps fairly easily. There are lot's of UA-cam postings to help with any needed repairs. The Trailvoy forum is an excellent source of information as well.

Keep the sway bar links greased. 8 fittings all together. If the park brake doesn't work well, new shoes are easy & cheap. You have to pull the calipers to change them though. Tows a trailer nicely and the pigtail is there for a proportional brake controller. If the fuel cap gasket goes bad (or if the cap is loose) it will cause a light but no specific code.

It’s quite interesting seeing the differences in the interior between My 2002 LTZ and your 2002 LT. Mine has buttons on the steering wheel for various things, the front AC controls are displayed on a VFD with temperature control dials rather than sliders and have an automatic feature too, the rear AC controls are also fully independent (apart from temperature) and have a little display that shows the air zones the radio station because the rear console has radio controls and headphone jacks so rear seat passengers can listen to a different station than what the driver is listening to. Also I ripped the onstar antenna off the rear window.

I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer like yours red, 16” aluminum rims. I got mine with 50k miles, I now have 310k miles. My last trip to Billings, 320 miles I got 21.2 mpg on the road. I would recommend that you get a Haynes manual #24072. In February we picked up a 2013 GMC Terrain on the trip to Billings it made 24.2 mpg. I changed the spark plugs at 100k, 200k, & 300k I was told to only use AC Delco plugs.
Your check engine light could be a loose fuel cap. Tighten it at least 3 clicks!
One fourth of the time the wife does it, the CEL comes on. I tighten the gas cap, take my scanner tool to erase the light.

I have an '04 Trailblazer LS EXT. The EXT means the extended 3 row seat model. An easy way to tell at a glance if the truck is a 2 or 3 row seat model is to look at the rear edge of the rear door. If the rear door ends at the beginning of the rear wheel well, it's a 3 row model. If the rear door ends about halfway into the rear wheel well, it's a 2 row model. Regarding the automatic 4 wheel drive feature, don't use it! The truck will be constantly shifting into and out of 4WD. That's tough on the components. If you need 4WD, use 4HI. Only use 4LO to get out of a very low traction situation, then shift back into 4HI. When the snow melts and the streets clear up, go back to 2WD. And keep an eye on the fluids in the differentials and the transfer case, too. The feature of being able to open only the glass on the rear liftgate instead of the entire liftgate may seem to be a nice thing, but it's another feature you're better off not using. Open the entire liftgate instead. The reason is that the glass is bonded (translation: glued!) to the upper hinges, and opening the glass by itself puts stress on that glue joint. When it fails, it's about $1,000 to have that all replaced!
    I really like my TB!

Don’t worry about the miles. These motors are pretty reliable and can last for a very long time. You hardly hear about these motors going through head gaskets. Biggest issue that you’ll definitely hear about is the electroviscous clutch fan. They are prone to failure and quite a bit pain in the butt to replace. It’s easier to get the pcm tuned and get a thermal clutch fan.

Went to a junkyard the other day and found a brand new air filter in one and got it for $3, got a new key fob from the same car since mine is worn down, happy with my junkyard finds.

  • @kylorsgames9019

Ill let yall people know a few things about the trailblazer. 1. the transmissions (4l60-e) are known to fail, mine failed at 230k because water got into it, they are known to fail around 150-180k, i got lucky. 2. I wouldn't recommend using the auto 4wd, it activates whenever there is slippage in the rear wheels, this will spin you very easily on the highway in rainy conditions. 3. your key will not come out in neutral, dont freak out lol. 4. the i6 makes about 280 hp and about same torque. 4. you cant fit tires larger than 255/70/17 or 265/70/16 without spacers and possible cutting because the damn cv joint sits above the tire. 5. other than the transmission the motors dont fail unless you drive it like a cop car 24/7. 6. the running boards are ugly, and theyre a pain to get off and they weigh more than you'd think. 7. theyre very safe, my dad crashed mine into a concrete barrier at about 50mph and then drove it home (no frame damage whatsoever). 8. IF the trans fails, they're very hard to get off because barely any working space, took me 2 days to get mine out in a full shop with every tool i could ever need. 9. they have a problem in the VVT solenoid sometimes, not a hard fix. 10. the coils only last about 100k before misfires start happening. other than that they're great suvs with a 5,800lb tow rating (depending). I just bought a 3" lift and some spacers, very excited to put them on with the 265/70/17s i have (31.6s)
