What Rekkles is describing is professional athletes. In any sports the athletes want to win and they work on their own to get their win, working with a coach means asking for opinion, creating trainings in order what athletes want to get better/train, correcting form of athletes but the drive is from athletes themselfes. No olympic gold medalist got back seated by a coach to win their medal. He described normal athlete coach work environment in professional sports. Djokovic doesn‘t need a coach to tell him how to play tennis. In League I think a lot of pros are „kids“ thrown into a training environment like in youth sports where you run your laps because coach tells you to. They „want“ to win a title but they often don‘t have the drive to be professional about it and work by themselves for it finding ways to improve. It’s more like “how cool i get payed to play games, lol i only play wow all the time idc about league” Working professional is an evolution, Max Verstappen sits on a simulator and trains hardcore for his wins as well, he’s not just a god given good driver - a lot of people don’t see that though
@@drinkswatereHe's not saying that tho. He's saying that things like coaches are an extra layer and of course an amazing resource, but the difference is that a true professional is ultimately self-motivated, and that isn't always the case.
I think its more along the lines of like “mamba mentality” than professional sports mentality. Im sure this idea of drive and wanting to win applies in more cases in professional physical sports because of the amount of time and size that those sports have existed but the kids that coaches have to push are also present in those spaces as well. You can ask Kobe Bryant how he feels about a win mid-series and he’ll respond with “whats there to be happy about, jobs not done” and there will be other guys on the team happy that he passed them the ball. Its kinda similar to rekkles cheering a 6 minute quadra vs the team staying focused on the job
For one of the most esteemed EU pro players, Rekkles is so insanely down to Earth. You can tell he really cherishes every opportunity he's given, especially with the way he speaks about LR and the way he talks to Caedrel. His ability to keep his ego in check is super admirable.
Loved this explanation of how T1 creates contingencies for draft and follows through on them as a rule book/play book. Its so much more than just "pick me renata" its like okay conditions xy and z are met so its time to lock renata comp to win. Often watching NA its like they just pick random stuff that might be good but there was never a clear plan to lock in that pick and execute on it.
No wonder the LCK AND LPL are super successful. It is the PLAYERS doing the talking and the coaches facilitating the talks and guiding the talks. We need players in EU to do more of the talking and coaches to help guide the drafts. EU needs to be smart like how they were back in 2018-19. Old school FNC and G2 style. I believe the players can do this.
Keria's role in T1 seems to had made a huge impact on Rekkles. LR might adopt T1's style of players leading the draft discussions. LR will have good foundation with Rekkles' experience in Korea.
technically Hyli also cooks but its more his build and playstyle rather than draft anyone remember his Wit's End Thresh? or his support Trundle solokilling?

Better food, better focus, and better standards. There is a reason why EU cannot legitimately win worlds, S1 doenst really count, and they been sitting on their laurels with the "we are better than NA KEKW" mentality. Asian teams dont compare themselves to NA, they are stricing to be the best.
