  • Are you in possession of an old PC that's been gathering dust? Perhaps you have a small-capacity USB flash drive lying around that you'd like to put to use? You can repurpose both items by installing a super small Linex distribution on them. Installing a mini Linux distro is an excellent option because it requires fewer system resources compared to other alternatives, while still providing a complete operating system experience.

    Excellent video!!! Fossapup along with the other puppy flavors as always been my go to distros. I LOVE using it. Many things in puppy are easier to set up than some of the major distros. I highly recommend puppy Linux!!!

      What is the best version of puppy linux? I’m completely new to linux. I tried fossa but it was quite unstable and crashed on me multiple times. Then I tried vanilladpup. It did crash on me a few times but the thing I hated about it the most was the fact that it had nothing in its package manager. Can you guide me?

      I have been using fossapup as well as bookworm which is the debian version of puppy Linux. You might want to check out the UA-cam channel puppy_byte. It's an excellent channel.

    Do any of the distros mentioned (tiny core, pupplylinux, slitaz, porteus, xfce, antix/iceWM) or others (slax, archbang, absolute linux, bodhi) come with 'ethtool'?
    Just looking to do a quick mac address change and installing linux, even a minimal version on a vm, takes a while and gigs of space. Hoping just to keep a bare live cd around that can do ethtool.

      But what's it like using a browser with a couple of tabs open and watching a 720 video online? It's easy to get a distro operable on an old machine but can it be used alongside modern 'tasks' ?

    • @diydinhobr
      @diydinhobr 10 місяців тому

      @@kychemclass5850 This distro is light, current and modern, it can be used with several modern applications, as it uses a stable Kernel and the applications are the same as those that can be installed in Ubuntu, it just depends on the hardware on which it is installed. It works great for old PCs and also the latest ones like AMD Threadripper or i9 13th gen. Success out there!

      @@kychemclass5850 Watching a 720p video in a browser needs a video card of at least 1GB and I usually do one activity at a time respecting the limits of the old hardware.
