    I used to work for an elderly lady there years ago. I asked what her husband did to become so wealthy? (She was really open and loved to talk) He had invented the egg carton! Then I knew it only takes one thing, one invention in one lifetime! Lol, still working on that...

    I visited Montecito this winter and was surprised to see how small the community is. Great video, Michael!

      It’s small. 3 miles from the beach to the Mountain tops. 4000 homes. 10,000 people. Some really big properties like Oprah’s but also lots of old school cottage properties. Not too hot. Not too cold. No streetlights or sidewalks in most of Montecito. Kind of still has a rural feel to it.

    You missed the most CHARMING part of Montecito! You should have taken San Ysidro road up to east Valley road, and had breakfast in Montecito Village, shopped at Pierre LaFond, walked around the area (cute shops, grocery, boutiques). Coast Village Road is great, but it’s NOT as exclusive. Also, next time you MUST visit the Rosewood Miramar Beach hotel, and get drinks looking out at the ocean. ……VERY luxe!! 😎🥂

    Next time go to Pierre La Fond Market, grab a coffee drink there… I recommend the Soy Coconut Espresso Latte. Get a breakfast sandwich on a croissant add avocado. Yum!
    Another trip, come to Westlake Village where I live! Have dinner on the beautiful lake at The Landing. So peaceful and beautiful.

    Funny, I grew up in neighboring Summerland. Went to Mt Carmel for school. It cracks me up to hear people gushing about it. I went to school with people who were related to big Hollywood people. Their moms drove unassuming station wagons. Not like the flashy posers of today.

    • @2Bluzin
      @2Bluzin 4 місяці тому

      I lived in Summerland for a year. The reason back then some of the rich drove normal cars there was because of the Patty Hearst kidnapping thing in the 70s. They all wanted to blend in so their kids would not look like targets. Before that there was a bit of showing off from what I heard. I guess now it's back to being prestigious again.

    I can't believe you missed the Biltmore Hotel, it's right there by the beach where you were. It's not just another luxury hotel, it's ground zero for the rich and famous. built in1928, everyone from Queen Elsbeth to Presidents to the current Royals have been there. I personally saw Barbara Streisand there once for their Sunday brunch. It's the equivalent of the Beverly Hills Hotel in LA only a lot more low key with a beautiful view of the ocean. Lots of history there.

    • @MikeListon-tk8ir
      @MikeListon-tk8ir 3 місяці тому +2

      The Biltmore hasn't been open since 2020, and locals in town couldn't care less if Barbara Streisand or any other celebrity is staying, dining, shopping there or anywhere else in town, unlike LA where black SUVs stalk and chase them 24/7. The locals like to keep it that way.

    • @2Bluzin
      @2Bluzin 3 місяці тому

      @@MikeListon-tk8ir As someone who grew up in Santa Barbara lived there more than 20 years and worked in the Biltmore I can assure you it was a big deal back in the day as was the Queen of England and many others. You sound like an entitled transplant, not someone who grew up there. When I lived there it was not the celebrity enclave like it is today. By the way, the Builtmore is planned to re-open very soon I hear.

      An article yrs ago quoted a matron in Monteceito saying she wished the area were closer to SF instead of LA. Back then SF was still doing very well while LA was more of a dystopia. Today in certain ways (culturally or socially), LA is more of a complete world while SF is more of a dystopia---M Martello's recent visit here notwithstanding. The weather gives the West Coast a different look & vibe than areas like the Hamptons, Newport RI or Martha's Vineyard. I used to think the older wealth of the NE & greener terrain of a Long Island were a step above SoCal. But areas like a Santa Barbara or Laguna Bch seem to have a friendlier look & feel.

  • @bajafire
    @bajafire Місяць тому

    Montecito is ruined. Let's be honest. It's all traffic, all congestion, and all construction noise. Everywhere you go, even on the trails all you hear is construction. If you'd like noise it's perfect. If you love traffic it's perfect. Plus you have the most inconsiderate people and community you could ever find.

    ‘American Riviera’ LOL 😂 When I think Riviera I think South of France, Riviera Maya, Palm Beach …. But certainly not cold, gloomy Santa Barbara’s wealthy suburb of Montecito. FYI, dogs get pushed in strollers by homeless people in Venice Beach … Just saying mate!

      Montecito technically is in Santa Barbara. They (people of Montecito) just refuse to admit they also live in SB. I worked for the county for a while and heard that ppl from Montecito would get upset when we wouldn’t let them use “Montecito” as city on their filings lol
