Just returned home to the UK after 28 yrs in the US and I find myself on youtube watching the VOTING of the Euro's I've missed....not the songs but the voting!!!! How I missed it all .....Terry Wogan and the UK actually winning. It doesn't get much better than this ; ) It's good to be home.
Terry Wogan's commentary was so exciting and loud this year "Woopeeee! About time somebody booed that, for goodness sake... Pathetic!" Greece and Cyprus were like the whistleblowers of 'political' voting lol "That's the old sympathy vote there" no Terry... Bosnia-Herzegovina have strong cultural links with Turkey! Danke Austria for 12 points, UK scored the first ever Televoting top mark in ESC history! "Hi Mum and Daddy!" Awww Katrina
@MegaMarioman97 What about Germany? They're one of the most un-popular countries at eurovision. To be fair, when did the UK last actually deserve to win? I think it was 98 and we came a close 2nd.
THIS voting of 1997, over 16 years ago, is both proof and evidence that the 'political' voting was even prevent back then. So UK really really ought to open up their eyes and realise that this is a 'song' contest, and that if we really really did put the effort in to send a good song it is always in contention to win. IE. Children of the Universe 2014
Matt Coe where is the political voting in this contest? That Italy gave 12 points to Estonia? And Norway giving 12 to France, very political, or the fact that Slovenia gave NO points at all to either Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Very silly to call it political voting anyway as if people vote politically, people vote for what they like and that is often yes from neighbouring countries cause it is in the style they like. There was no political voting at all in this contest.
Seeing how much Terry like all of us hated bloc voting, brings back great memories. Seriously though, this "song contest" won't be around in 2020 if this BS keeps going. Everyone will just get fed up with it.
May sound a bit daft but hope I turn out to be wrong too. People need it just cos it's been around for so long. Something has to change though. Just exactly what?
@MegaMarioman97 Germany didn't win again this year because the song was much weaker than last year, "Satellite" was an uptempo pop song whereas "Taken by a Stranger" was an odd Lena-does-The-Cure type affair. "Running Scared" wasn't my favourite, however it sounds like a standard chart hit and it is catchy. Italy came 2nd and Sweden 3rd both with good, catchy songs, and as mentioned below, the UK did well on televoting. Block voting can stop you getting nul points but it can't make you win
@MegaMarioman97 not really.. If the BBC entered a great song again then we'd definitely stand a chance. Remember we came 5th in 2009 and 5th in the televoting in 2011. It's just that our entries have really sucked over the last decade.
some say political voting but in reality it is often at best neighbourly voting or voting because like for example sweden.. swedish people are more likely to like a norwegian song than a song from montenegro because we do not have any real connection musically to montenegro.. but I agree with you that it is good that today we have a jury which stands for 50% of the voting. voting is much more fair in 2013 than in the 80s and 90s...

Carrie Crowley was I think the best presenter of the 1990's..She was incredible!!
Even young Terry Wogan had that charateristic sparkle! XD
I should put 3.36 as my new ringtone :P
One of my favorite Terry Wogan moment was when he said after the Norwegian performance in 1994 "This is more like a toothpaste and shampoo out there"

Wait a minute. Terry should say "HA HA HA! HEY! WHOOPEE!" when Cyprus gives 12 points to Greece. Isn't that simple?

CYPRUS!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!

I preferred the voting back them compared to now - there was an exciting build up to the 12 points
I can't stop listening to 3:35-3:40

Am I the only one with serious difficulties to distinguish between "Pays Bas" and "Pays Basque"?
Ahhhh, how i miss the days when not ALL the voting was political.
How annoying that the countries have a fixed place on the scoreboard, its difficult to see who's leading :P.
i love austria!!
Nothings changed with political voting I see.

Terry Wogan is not English,he was born in Limerick in the south-west of Ireland
But Terry Wogan is from Ireland isn't he?
Why is it not Christine Marshall Ortiz.
Will the United Kingdom ever win again? :-(
Davidx
I do think Graham Norton does it well though.
No hes from Ireland
Terry Wogan is one of the reasons that the UK haven't always taken ESC seriously with his constant sarcasm and joking .....
I'm so glad they skip 1-7 points now. That would take bloomin ages these days!
wogan is english mate sorry
Is he drunk or sth?! lol. Anyways, I miss Terry Wogan's commentary. :D

Terry Wogan is IRRITATING!
Oh my I had forgotten how lousy her dress and hairstyle was. It's terrible.
