Thanks for the film breakdown, Jonny. I look forward to these every week.
Thanks!
been waiting all year for this! Let's go! THAT MUSIC! YESSSSS
Yesss we back
YES!!!
I'm trying to remember the last time I saw a back shoulder throw by a 49er QB.
Cmc, Deebo, Kittle, BA, Juice, Jennings, Eli, Dwelley, TDP, Ray-Ray. Purdy has a lot of targets!
I’d say ray ray McCloud deserves extra praise for his hustle and patience with blocking on that Christian McCafree run. That could easily have been a penalty
In jets-bills game, the jets receivers were celebrating instead of blocking while the running back was still running. And that is difference between 7 points and 3 points.
The difference with Purdy and the rest of the QBs we've had... 4:32
He knew he was going to Aiyuk. He looked off the safety from the snap and made the throw SO much easier when he came back to Aiyuk.
Purdy sure has looked good
I'll say this. Until Sunday I thought Purdy was just a product of Shanahan's system. As a Steelers fan Sunday was my first real good look at him. Purdy made some big time throws and a few with pressure in his face and at least 1 while rolling left and throwing across his body. The kid is a legit QB. That being said I'd give anything to have Shanahan instead of Canada designing my offense. One is a big time offensive mind and the other should be coaching at the High School level.
@@JW0143 cheers to you! That's what's crazy about some 49ers fans bagging on Shanahan. They really take for granted how good he is.
@jwsteelers1 Purdy is the one making kyle look good. We have seen kyle with a lot of other qbs and the passing gamd looks bad. kyle cant develop qb talent and his play calling and game management is sus.
@@george6563 Who's better than Shanahan? Who would you have replace him? Every team Shanahan has left have subsequently faltered the following year because of his talent and play calling abilities
Man, Armstead looked really good on almost all these reps. He's so crucial to this dee.
Armstead looks real good this year
Eyyooo pause
He might actually get a sack.....
@@Vladpryde eyyyoooo
@@Vladpryde of course he will. Are you suggesting that is the only value he has? He was the key player on Jackson's first sack AND his disruption led to the Ward INT.
"Stats are for losers" - some other guy who spent his career 2-gapping.
It’s crazy how much more Kyle trusts Purdy than he did Jimmy or Trey. You can see it in the play calls
I understand your point but Purdy is a lot better than either Jimmy or Lance. Especially in this offense.
The play calls don't look any different, it's just the execution that's changed. Go to the 7m mark. When TJ drops into the passing lane, Brock shifts quickly.
Jimmy was inconsistent at seeing those things and sometimes threw to the defender. And when he did see them and hold the ball, he took a sack.
Shanahan looks like he trusts Purdy more, because Purdy is extending drives and getting more reps.
The play calling is pretty much the same. It's the execution from QB1 BCB
Dude Kyle would have never called a pass play on 4th and 1 with Lance or Jimmy at QB
How can you say the play calling is the same
Niner wins and JD breakdowns are the highlights of the year.
Thanks!
That's an incredible breakdown of the game. I love your patience in describing the plays and explaining what transpired and what on-the-fly decisions were taken when something changed in the play. Please keep up the great work!
Appreciate it!
Man I’m a Steelers fan and I’m still gonna watch this. Wasn’t sold on Purdy but after that game I think he’s the real deal. Nice to watch a good offense
Pancake by Aiyuk was great but extra credit to RayRay for getting over to block from all the way on the otherside of the field and then having the technique and patience to perfectly set up the defender into a position to get completely locked up.
Guess what. He blocked the ‘TELL’man himself.
Love the effort from both those guys
lets go! my favorite thing to watch on tuesdays is back! YK we love these very informative breakdown vids jonny
Thanks!
Was waiting for this video to drop! Been watching since last season; really enjoy how you show the play first, then rewind and then overlay with the great analysis. I enjoy watching the games but I don't realize how the plays are developing and you explain it in ways that everyone can understand and enjoy. Thanks for all the effort you put into these!
So glad I found this channel during preseason. Fantastic stuff
I'm glad you found it too!
You’re in for a treat bro
Hello JD. I've been looking forward to these. Keep up the good work.
I was so happy to see this show up today, love your breakdowns! 🙏🏼
But, but, but Purdy....
- is just a plug-and-play QB
- can only throw short passes
- is too small and isn't athletic enough
- won't be the same after his injury
The kid
- looks defenses off and doesn't stare down his receivers
- knows (usually) where the pressure is coming from and makes good decisions
- trusts his teammates and they trust him
- is more often than not accurate with the ball
- has great football IQ and other intangibles that people seem to consider luck, bish please 😁
If the team can stay healthy they're looking really, really good! 🏆
For real. Purdy is looking Purdy good
awesome stuff.. the play at 9:30.. couldve fooled me.. that looked just like Montana in the late 80s
right!?!
Best analysis in the nfl
Thanks!!
Absolutely incredible breakdown! Look forward to these every week!
We don't need to sign another pass rusher. D.J and C.F will flourish with this unit.
This unit should only gel more as time goes
oh thank you Johnnydel. great to see you back!!!
loved this analysis.
the games are better with you.
Excellent breakdown. I feel 14% smarter now. Okay, 15%.
LOL, that's awesome
Love the quality of your breakdowns the editing is smooth af and keeps you engaged appreciate it. Subbed for more.
Thanks for the sub!
the effort from Ayuk, compared to his career, good things coming to that man. Kinlaw... your turn to show up
I think it’s time for Oliver 26 and Thomas 20. These DBs will be crucial against teams with speed and depth (like the Vikings).
Yes fantastic break down you did a great job I wish more people would do that and I'm in that world I'll tell you now. I'm a Professional Golfer recovering from spinal cord disc replacement and nerve repair surgery.
Thanks! Also wishing you a speedy recovery
@@jonnydel awe many blessings my man and Go Miner Niner Nation. Here's Something for you guys out there. I became a niners fan because I met John Brody at a junior world golf tournament when I was 10. I was in the broncos stadium in that corner end zone five rows up when Jerry Rice caught his 200th touch down. It was right in front of me. Amazing he's amazing. This year has a different feeling it truly does I don't ever jump ahead of things I'm One day at a time. I'll just say God willing. Let's just Bless this team say a prayer not only for this team but for all of you guys and of of us in this country I'm a desert storm veteran and I know we could sure use normal so many prayers to all of you guys.
7:12 I noticed this live and was very impressed. Steelers fan btw
Cheers!
Each and every game that passes, I can’t believe how lucky we are to have Brock. I truly don’t understand how someone this smart, accurate, handles the media, is a leader in the huddle, and so poised can go nearly undrafted. The guy single handily made Iowa state a winner/competitive and now that he’s gone they are back to a dumpster fire. If it weren’t for Brock i think the niners would be forced to either extend Jimmy, give Trey another learning season, or (which I think is most likely) trading a first and more for Aaron Rodgers or make an offer for Kurt Cousins the viks couldn’t refuse OR sign Derek Carr.
a JFA vid during 9ers victory week hits like no other
Making one during a victory week hits like no other too, lol
How do you get access to these camera angles? Can i watch the replay like this
You can get that on NFL gamepass
Look forward to this every week. Great breakdown again
Appreciate it!
Once again your break downs on point 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌🙌
The MAIN worrier clause I've seen is: YES, they kicked ass BUT Colton McKivitz..."
So, as I recall AND what showed on ur film ( another great Vid JOHNNY DEL!)
is that MCKivitz HANDLED T.J. Watt on those first 4 scoring drives!. So we were up 20-0 before T.J. Watt started having a better game ...
So, maybe , some fatigue on McKivitz part? Remember WATT was DPOY, so , expect he'll win some, esp. when Pittsburgh HAD TO take some risks defensively 2 try and get back into the game.
(I'll give 2 U that 1st fumble where Purdy wrapped his arms back 2 his butt and retained possession, that may have been earlier on, I'lll hv 2 re-watch the game.)
And Watt DID end up with another recovered fumble, 3 sacks and a nice game on paper; early on, he was INEFFECTIVE.
I watched ur tape, Johnny, and on those plays U highlighted , WATT was a NON-FACTOR. So, we have 2 give McKivitz credit where it is DUE, he played well and the Niners DOMINATED,
he did his job.
Later on, he got a little sloppy, and WATT made him pay.
Another super-illustrative breakdown, ur coverage makes us all better fans... I'm glad U cover the Niners.
McKivitz is gonna be the new McGlinchey. He'll do fine for 8 snaps and then have 2 bad ones and everyone will bag on him.
Look at the sea of red...in Pittsburgh.
The Faithful travel so well
Always feel my NFL IQ goes up w your videos
Great work as always, Jonny!
Thanks again!
Purdy is so poised in the pocket. Playing like a vet
Thanks so much for the video! I edge to these at least 3 times a day 😇
Dude he Broke petersons ankles on the first TD
Well....yeah
Great video as always Jonny, it's so great to have a QB who is decisive and not indecisive like Trey or Jimmy were. BA is a star in the making, and yes I believe we can keep him long term, with our other high paid players, but great video as always JD. Much love, gotta get together for another podcast whenever you have time now that Nick Bosa signed his extension.
Cheers, Jason!
4:20 center #64 def holds the steelers NT on that run. ref cant catch em all tho
Aiyuk is to the 49ers what Jonny Del is to 49ers media
Ohhhhh dang!
Hey Jonny, where do you find this footage? I'd much rather watch games zoomed out like this!
It's available on NFL gamepass and gamepass international
That goaline play at 5:20, cover 6 defense seems like an insane idea to attack with passing. Why wasn't a run called? Jonnydel was that the best option or was that just a huge break for the offense because of the safety error?
The Steelers are gonna think the same thing. It's why it's a good time to attack with play action. Plus, if it's not there Purdy just tosses it out the back of the endzone.
If when Jimmy was “on” we’d still have a few 3 and outs that looked like pop Warner football. Very rarely does that seem to happen now. Just a big difference.
Great review as usual JD! Loving that this team seems to be picking up right where they left off last season, it's great to see.
I'm curious about that last play you show... and there may be a homer factor but do you think the Huf lateral was forward and the ref's flag justified? To me, it looked sideways but I guess the rule is that it can't go forward at all and with his momentum, it went forward hence the flag but c'mon man that was a sick heads-up play
GO NINERS!
Well, the ball was caught past the point it was let go so that's why it's considered a "forward pass"
As always, great video!
Thank you!
Jonny, any thoughts on Colton giving up back to back sacks? I know he was up against TJ but still 2 in a row?
I wasn't a fan on the sequencing there. Overall, he's got to be better though
Purdy is Manscape lol
LOL
Purdy is having some resemblance with Montana. Smart, sneaky athletic, hopefully he will gain more arm strength as he ages like Montana.
These breakdowns explain how good purdy is . He’s so poised , accurate , reads defenses well , has a good grasp of the offense and he’s elusive
I am glad that he is climbing the pocket instead of flushed out. 9:59 I know he can’t always do that, he has to take what is there, but it is good that he is thinking that way. Had he climbed the pocket on his injury play against Philadelphia, he would not have gotten injured.
My thoughts exactly. I noticed a couple of plays where Purdy was moving just enough to get away from pressure, but not bailing out of the pocket as readily as we've seen him do in the past.
The goat is back
Wait, Joe Montana is coming back!?!?!
You are the man ❤ 😊
You're the best!
21:57 Are you able to elaborate on why the pic at the end where Hufanga tossed it to the other player on why they deemed it a forward pass? Seemed like it was close enough that it could have been challenged. They didnt really talk about it during the game time.
The ball was caught past where it was thrown. Even if it is just inertia carrying it, it's still considered a forward pass
@@jonnydel I see, thank you for that. Hopefully they work on that as a team. It was fun to watch and something thats missing from the playbooks today. Hook & ladder plays as well as just being observant in the heat of the moment to know that you can dish the ball back to someone else to extend the play.
We back for another season I was waiting for you to drop ❤
Thanks!
Great video as always man, keep up the good work.
Appreciate it!
5:11 you say inside safety but Peterson got his ankles broken.
He did but that inside safety was supposed to let the first DIG/post go and pick up the 2nd in breaker
Man, Purdy is so good
On that last Huff INT that Fred tipped, what was the flag for? Could he not lateral that to another player?
The ball was caught forward from where it was let go, so technically it's a forward pass
@@jonnydel Ah, okay, my eyesight is off I guess. Looked like it was backwards to me lol. Thanks for that.
Great video as always JD. Much better to see Purdy's game actions explained to get a feel for how good he actually is than some random talking heads spouting baseless opinions. Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed it
What's great about watching these breakdowns over the course of a season is realising how many weapons the 49ers have on both sides of the ball. Aiyuk had a big week this week. Next week it might be Samuel or Kittle. CMC had a great week. Next week it might be Mitchell, or Mason, or even (the great) Jusycyzk. All the linebackers were strong this week. Jackson had 3 sacks this week, next week it might be Bosa. Or Hargrave. Or... etc, etc. Wishnowsky had a great game! Moody hit everything he needed to.
So that's what NFL route trees look like.
Yeah, they're pretty expansive. Shanahan has 50+ routes for his WR's
Its truly the start of the NFL season when Jonnydels breakdown videos get posted!
🤜🤛
Amazing work my Johnny! I look forward to every Tuesday and Friday. Your breakdowns are fantastic bud!
Welp, guess Purdy can throw right. So much stink from a certain content creator over NOTHING
Love Drake Jackson's closing speed. If the qb gets within a few yards of him, he's not escaping. At least Pickett isn't, maybe some others would.
It's so great to get into a new season of these breakdowns.
I had to laugh, thanks to these videos, on one play I was able to instantly recognize the 4-by-1 set (same formation as 6:47, but with the sides flipped). I took one look at how far off the corner was playing Aiyuk on the single-receiver side, and immediately said, "Purdy's gonna hit Aiyuk on that slant route," and sure enough that's exactly what happened.
Shoutout to the 49er faithful! There was A TON of red in those stands and last time I checked that's not a steelers color. "LETS GO NINERS" chants were clearly heard in the 4th quarter. On to Levis south!
We’ve scoffed at Kyle’s demanding nature with WRs and blocking but this squad we have is showing why it makes an impact. Kyle throws his star receivers in to block like they’re role players but the stars stepped up and embraced the challenge
14:17 - this is the next step. A completion created by an outside receiver 1v1, and not just from motion, or play action, or anything exotic. It’s our guy is better than your guy and the QB hits him. System is great, but sometimes u need raw talent , and now we got it
Yep. People always argued with me that you have wide receivers to catch passes, not block. Not Kyle though
@@jonnydelI think it was PFF or the Athletic Pod that said most teams put in a jobber at WR when they need a block cuz that’s dirty work, which is a pretty big giveaway. Kyle don’t give a fuck he’s using Deebo and Aiyuk
@@OptionZero 1000%
Good stuff!
Return of the king 🙌
The flame of the west
@@jonnydel I love you
mckivitz is terrible at run & pass blocking, he's gonna get Purdy hurt
All game I was looking for BA and his blocks. He made so many awesome blocks and that stuff is under looked by the media big time.
He's become such a complete player
The irony is that Steelers had an opportunity to get Purdy last year. They chose Pickett, fell in love with him and now are reaping the rewards.
Great observations Jonny.. #KeepEvolving #GoNiners
Thanks!
I love your videos man, thanks!
Was waiting for this one. Lets go!!
Let's GO!!!
Brock Purdy will win the MVP this season.
PURDY HAD TO PRACTICE AGAINST THIS NINER DEFENSE AND VICE VERSA! IRON SHARPENS IRON!!
Missed that background music lol
Hey what it do Johnny??? Man have I missed you, I love your breakdowns. On the off season I went back and watched all your 2022-2023 breakdowns again. I love it and I am a female that loooooooooooves football, especially Niner football and every year you help make me understand them more and more in live action..... tysm.
That's awesome! Thank you!
#JD49
🤜🤛
Two quick notes you should take don't talk over the video showing the plays about a machine that cut hair off your balls and two SPEAK UP I could barely hear you and yes my volume is way high!
The handyman is an electric razor for your face....
You really break down 🏈 to it's basics TY👊🏾🏈🏈I was just watching 🏈 now I'm leaning it thxs to you 💯
Thanks!!! and welcome, fellow Alabamian
right
Watching your show right now! Was looking forward to it
Dare I say it kinlaw did pretty ok. Stack days man
I really loke Purdy! I don't get nervous when I see him throwing the ball like I did with Jimmy. Jimmy is great but hen h'e sbad its dangerous and I always got nervous watching him thow deep because he got intercepted a lot. I feel confident with Brock's ability to play well and make right decisions. Aiyuk showed TF up in a big way. CMC was nasty with that spin move. I blows my mind that the NFL analysts called this 5 Steelers 3 Niners.
yeahhhh, the takes were weird
Is it just me? Looks like the coverage on Deebo is much tighter than Aiyuk. Or Aiyuk is just so much better at getting separation?
Thanks!
Johnny, Juice is starting to take some crap from (you can guess who) because he's aging. Watching your video, I see him still kicking ass all over the field. Can you please do a video focusing on Juice please? I'd really appreciate it and so would his fans.
Juice is the OW. He can do things few can. We'll just ignore the hater(s)
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Lisa!
Brandon Aiyuk is a beast! 🎈
Havent seen video yet, but JD, it seems like Shanny just doesnt believe in chipping the D Ends.
He tends to either keep them in or use them in play-action or just send them out. The timing of a lot of the combo's doesn't lend well to chips
What do you think about PFF giving Purdy a 73.2 overall rating?
SF QB's won't score well on PFF a lot. They weight toward tight window, downfield throws or off-schedule
VICTORY MONDAY NINERS FANS
YES SIR!! Let's do it!!!
Been waiting so hard for this video to drop. Good stuff as always!
Awesome, thanks!
right me too.
@jonnydel It's so exciting to see the team click like this. I felt like Deebo was rarely on screen during the broadcast. Looking at the tape was it because he was pulling defenders everywhere he went or was BA just that sharp on his routes?
Hard not to be excited
Luv ur analysis bro
