I feel like the blur effect could have been better if it faded in as the two brothers saw each other so that we could see from the brother's perspective focusing in on his brother and vice versa.
OMG this was amazing! in my family I had this very situation with two brothers fighting on opposite sides. I am a descent from the northern brother and when my uncle died he revealed a "dark family secret" because we had a whole family in Texas from the brother that fought for the south. It was kept a secret for generations because of the shame of having racist ancestors. My dad ended up finding them and they are soooo sweet and so not racist. It was really amazing to connect with a whole branch of family that we didn't even know about. Holding onto shame for generations does nothing good, I am so glad we were able to connect and find some wonderful family members! This short film makes me wonder what they felt like and if they ever met each other on the battlefield. As a person who is an artist I cannot imagine being in the middle of war fighting for my life! I will stick to making videos 😉 I hope you are having a beautiful day! ❤️
Interesting! Loved the blur/smoke idea to focus the view. Some of the cuts felt really jarring (while moving), fade/black outs went more smoothly. But hurray to this new technology and to you guys making such a great piece of art with it already!
From a film standpoint I really liked it until 5:05 because you blurred about 75% of the screen. From a human standpoint yeah, war is bad. Really felt like Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which had similar themes. Good job. :)
Yeah but it's cheating :P From a filmmakers standpoint, the challenge with 360 films is how you can make sure the viewer is looking at the right things at any particular time while they have complete freedom to look wherever they want. By blurring out a large portion and removing the agency, it feels a bit of a technical cop out. Understandable but still. I guess it remains a major obstacle. I missed the freedom especially when they saw each other, i wanted to turn around and see the brother on the other side. Regardless, still very well done. I love the shot of them coming out of the crops (the sound an movement made you look in the right direction and with the main character closest to the cam it was clear who you had to look at, but still having the freedom to look around, perfect 360 shot)
Ralph Lindsen yeah you bring up a good point, now that I think about it again, it would've been nice to see the other brother amidst the conflict. 360 is just a difficult platform.
Actually the framing is a great idea, to lead the focus of the viewer where he is supposed to be looking in the important moments. Besides 3D 180° videos are usually much better than 3D 360° videos, quality and resolution wise.
This is clearly the future of film making. I look forward to seeing more stuff. Battle scenes would be fantastic with this technology. Gettysburg, The Somme and El Alamein for example.
For one of my Cinema TV Production courses, I created my first student film, which I titled "My Brother's Keeper" also. If you're curious about it and would like to see it, here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/TQaPY9jxNsY/v-deo.html
I love the part when they start walking out of the cornfield, finally video when they really use the potential of 360 camera..

Just because they fought for the South doesn't make them racists and I hope you realize only 6 percent of southern soldiers owned slaves
Jessica Prado Hanson “racist”
Never Be Ashamed of your Confederate Ancestors they fought for their homes, Loved ones and States!

Josef Trejbal I see where you're coming from but from my perspective with VR goggles the haze actually helped me focus on the story's development.

I agree it works, it is just very heavy handed imho
Sad story and really good filming concept
First time I see 8k video on youtube.
Not true 8K. That is the resolution for all the viewable space in the 360 video. Actually closer to 720p in the space your screen can show.
lucky you i just see rotating circle with slow irish internet and 8k combo..

This is amazing
