  • The 10th Battalion of the 1st Australian Division was amongst the most feared fighting forces in the world leading up to World War 1.
The Terrible Tenth, as they were known in the British Army, had proven their valor several times, with two of their men having received the coveted Victoria Cross.
When they were recruited by Field Marshall Douglas Haig to raid the Celtic Wood, a deep forest within Flanders, Belgium, the 85-men crew accepted without hesitation.
Everyone was shocked when the Terrible Tenth suffered so many losses. Even worse, 37 of the men were missing, and they would never be found.
How could so many men belonging to one of the most fierce battalions disappear without a trace?
Many wondered whether they had been abducted by Germans and lost in a mass graveyard. Others were convinced there was a supernatural element to the disappearances.
The infamous Celtic Wood raid became known as the Australian Imperial Force's greatest mystery in the Great War.

There are definitely places in the woods/deep wilderness areas that just don’t feel right/comfortable. Other things like the feeling of being watched or hearing the sounds of wildlife suddenly die off.
I’ve experienced getting bad vibes in the woods for no logical reason. Trusting my gut feeling and intuition, I will turn back, especially if there is not a reasonable explanation for the feeling.
Has anyone else experienced similar experiences?
Also helps to stay away with places that have malevolent names. Especially if the indigenous people avoid the specific area or have legends involving bad things with a place.

    I like listening to Sabaton.
I am not usually into hard rock or metal, but that Band literally keeps history alive.
Look up the stories of WW1 Francis Pegamagabow. 378 confirmed snipers kills with the much maligned Ross Rifle.
He was one of the best snipers during WW1. Sumo (The Finnish White Death) would of loved him.
Captured over 400 enemy alive, and would silently cut off medals and insignia off sleeping enemies while scouring enemy trenches, while not harming the enemy.
While his “traditions” were initially mocked, his fellow Canadians soon highly respected his abilities and his almost supernatural ability to change the wind (gas attacks) direction and save them from certain death.
He was a sniper, scout, and soldier.
He was a First Nations Canadian and one of the highest promoted and awarded First Nations in the Canadian Military.
Because at the time Canada did not recognize Native Americans as official citizens he had to fight after the war for the same benefits and rights as his fellow soldiers.
In the early 2000’s, he tribe erected a bronze statue by the lake he grew up by as a boy.
He is smartly dressed in his WW1 uniform, with his spirit animal on his arm (an Eagle), and a Caribou behind him.
When the Canadian Government heard about this memorial, they sent Canadian Military and a band to attend in acknowledgement of his service.🥲
Sabaton has a Song about him called “Ghost in the Trenches”.
    RIP Francis Pegamagobow.

It's a rare thing as most of the time our forces get lumped in with the British. Australia set many records in world war one as well as in WW2.

It should also be noted that the Australian armed forces remain amongst the most feared in the world. Our SAS operators are rated as the best. Whenever you hear of Australia getting involved in a conflict in "limited capacity" on behalf of one of our allies, our involvement is only on the specific missions they need to either be black ops or that can't be allowed to fail.

Sounds like a Great song for Sabaton to sing about.
You Should do an upload about the forgotten Russian 188(?) Night Witches. An all female Russian air force approved by Stalin that fought against the Germans.
They used literal fabric and wire slow crop dusters.....at night... to terrorize the Germans during WW2.
These planes were slow, could not carry heavy loads, and were vulnerable to tracer and ani-aircraft guns.
But the women used the planes short take off and landing abilities to their advantage (operated on literal mobile landing strips)....plus the top speed of those crop dusters was the German fighter planes stall speed.
They could turn on a dime and evade German pilots.......impressing a German Ace who was amazed at the woman’s abilities.
Though slow, they flew low to evade gunfire.
They slept during the day, and at night they fought.
They would climb to the highest altitude possible, the turn off their engines and glide toward German encampments. The only sound was the wires in the planes wings vibrating and the rustle of wing fabric. Only when right above the enemy would they release the bombs and start their engines again.
The gliding sound was comparable to quiet sewing machines and brooms.
The Germans called them “Night Witches” and they adapted the name.
Germans were truly terrified them. According to my Dad, who was against me joining the military as a girl, he surprised me by telling me that their legend is told like ghost stores in the American and other military branches.
