I just made a bunch of glitter ornaments using straight mod podge. It does take a long time to dry but they look great once dry. I did buy polycrylic but haven’t used it yet
I've been making these for years and I've found that the glitter falls from the sides of the ornaments when stored if you use floor cleaner. I've used ModPodge with great success, but I thin it down. I've not used polyurethane yet because I don't want such a large amount of adhesive sitting around between projects.
About 5 years ago I made glitter ornaments with Pledge and as of last Christmas they looked as good as the day I made them! I bought old glass ornaments that had seen better days at the local goodwill, and removed the inside coloring with some bleach and canning salt and let them dry overnight before applying the glitter.
Colorado Leen I think I used that same product - it was trending on YT, wasn’t it - and was not happy with my results, even with another application. I’m glad yours turned out good.
Five or so years ago I used Mop n Glo floor wax, which is milky in appearance, to make a glitter ornament as seen in YT videos. Mine wasn’t very good. I’ll be using Minwax polycrylic in the future, between that and the Pledge, the polycrylic looked better, imo.
I used Pledge and found that the glitter doesn't stay on very well. Some of my ornaments from last year have large areas with no glitter. I am definitely going to try the polyacrylic this year. Thanks for the comparisons!
I used Mop n Glo last year as a gift for a workmate that just got married so I made their 1st Christmas ornament as a married couple and my results were the same as your floor cleaner but I did measurements and a lot of steps I got off of the internet your way was way easier. Thank you for showing me I didn't have to be so OCD.
I did a mod podge ornament 4 days ago and it is still not completely dry. I even left the lid off and set it upside down to let any excess drain out before applying the glitter. I’m anxious to see what it will look like when finally dry. But I’m heading to the store to buy polycrylic it looks beautiful from the get go
