I know I'm late to the active thread but I wanted to give my opinion. Almost 8 years ago I made a set of a dozen glass Christmas bulbs with mop & glow and glitter. They still look just as beautiful as the first day I made them. Additionally I feel I should tell you that we've moved 4 times as well. These to date are still my favorite ornaments. I filled them 1/2 full with m&g dumped it out into another bulb then added the glitter right away. Then dumped out the glitter and within a couple of hours they were dry and ready for the tree. I think the issue people are having is that the mop & glow is that it's being left to dry for too long. Just my opinion
Thanks for doing this was really informative, I use modge podge, always looks streaky at 1st, 2nd coat to seal comes out beautiful everytime, last forever, it just takes awhile to dry.
Thanks for this video! Last year I used Mop & Glo for my glass ornaments. They looked beautiful for 2 days, then the glitter started falling off the interior every time the ornaments took the slightest bump. Got worse as the days went by. I tried hairspray; similar experience, not preferred. My best to-date has been the Polycrylic.
I have always used polycrylic....it holds up much better in the attic after you pack away. Everything else seems to melt from the attic heat if stored up there. All my polycrylic ornaments have done very well in my attic, I live in Florida.
Well I have all the blank empty ornaments for next year, then I saw this JUST IN TIME🤣😂. I was going to get the mop n glow. It makes sense actually that the mop n glow would not stick for long. You took the guess work out of all the products, SO THANK YOU. That was nice of you. 😊 God bless
I just made my first ever glitter ornaments! I bought a couple condiment bottles for the glitter. Built in funnel! Got the ketchup bottles at dollar tree.
I used Liquitex Gloss Medium plus Varnish! It’s made to preserve a finished canvas and dries clear and is non yellowing. That was my best option because I was wondering about the glitter coming loose over time. With this Gloss Medium, once it dries, it’s there. Hope this helps someone.
I use triple thick.... it works great. It was what I had at home and I was like ok let's try it.... and I was surprised by the out come. I have both glass and plastic 2 in bulbs.
Great video Corrine! I was really surprised at your thoughts on the Glitter It. I’ve used it on hundreds of baubles and have never had an issue with streaking or bald spots. I can only think you left it too long before adding the glitter and the liquid missed some of the surface? It’s really hard to tell sometimes. Polycrylic seems to be the #1 choice in the States but unfortunately we can’t get that in the UK. Thanks again for a great comparison video 😊
1 table spoon, or more size of bulb, straight clear Elmer's Glue makes a perfect thick coat for solid glitter coat. You can also you resin for adhesive. Does this give you some ideas lol
Polycrylic for both glass and plastic. Just make sure you have a good coating before letting get tacky. DONT SKIP THE GETTING TACKY STEP or else you will NOT have good coverage. I successfully made both glass and plastic ornaments with the poly.
@@rving642 it only takes a few minutes before you can add glitter. Also polycrylic states to use in a ventilated area it does have a little smell. I don't find it super strong I crack a window.
@Wyntre Sorrow I let mine drip upside down for about 5 minutes. Sometimes less you really just need to let the excess drain out. Once that's done you can add glitter.
I used glitter it in my ornaments and they turned out beautiful. The ornament needs to be rinsed with a vinegar and water mix first and drained upside down. When drained is when you need to apply the glitter it and swirl around gently till covered. Turn upside down to drain about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Pour in glitter and rotate to cover ornament. I even shook it to spread more evenly. Glitter-it in my opinion is the best.
I just subscribed to your channel.. I just started to ornaments yesterday with alcohol inks and glitter on the inside and I will do a video today and upload it.
Yeah, the smallest size is about 10 bux...at WalMart! The larger size she is using was 17 or 18, I think. I was pricing stuff a couple weeks ago & that sent me into sticker shock! I didn't like how Mod Podge looked when I played with it last year, so I was looking for a better alternative without having to take out a loan for supplies! Lol
Thank you for doing this....great idea so many product options! Can't wait too make my own glitter ornaments! I have a nautical tree so I think I'm going to use blue green glitter as fill ins.🎄❄🎄
I don't know what I did wrong. I did this same exact process with the Polycrylic 2 days ago and my ornament still isn't dry. Just to make sure it was dry, I lightly put my figure on a spot on the inside and it was wet. It moved. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
@@CorinneBlackstone I wonder if it'll ever dry. If not, do you think it's possible to redo it by swishing water in it? It sucks to mess up the flat ornament I did because they're hard to find. Dollar Tree ran out.
Has anyone tried the clear glue from Dollar tree. I put some in a couple of the clear ornaments. I left them to drain overnight and it never dried but was nice, smooth and completely clear with no bubbles. I poured glitter and they look beautiful. We’ll see if it last.
Thats what i used!!! Glitter it left bald spots was super thin looking on the Glitter and if i didnt drain it to make sure all the extra was out it would all glob up and leak to the bottom. I even tried doing a second coat to cover the bald spot and thicken up the glitter to make it look better but then it looked 2 toned. 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Debbie Renier I like the fine glitter personally, but it's all a matter of preference. You can also mix different colors and/or sizes of glitters for more interest and different effects. ☺
Informative but I think a darker color of glitter wd be much easier to see where there were bare spots in the bulbs for comparison sake. Maybe u cd do another video using a darker color glitter.

I'm glad they have worked for you! Sadly all mine the glitter already flaked off. I think some people have luck and others don't.
@@CorinneBlackstone it’s because you didn’t glitter right away.
My Walmart (the only store we have) doesn’t have mop and glow. What would be an alternative product I could use?

Thank you for sharing your video. I bought the polycrylic prior to seeing your comparison test. It's good to know that I bought the best one ☺️.

As with paint sometimes you want to do a second or even third coat!

How long does it take to get tacky? How will you know when it’s ready?
Does the polycrylic have a strong smell? (Chemical smell)?

I start in July on my cards and my gifts and such
Man that size Polycrylic here is about $18. I was just thinking about this topic this morning so great timing!
My can of 8oz that is what she is using 9.98 at Lowe’s that will last you forever

I used the polly n that ones my fav doing the glitter ornaments I made a grinch ornament
Hi do you think glass is better than plastic?
Hi I'm from the UK which polycrylic did you use please? I've looked on Amazon and there are some different ones. Does it matter which one I get?😊
I used gloss from min wax
Have you tried to double layer the ones that didn't get a good coverage or steaking?
I did not because I feel like that makes more work and likely will cause a lot of issues with the glitter becoming clumped
The Elmer glue works but, you need to wait a little bit then add more glitter and works
Thank you for doing this....great idea so many product options! Can't wait too make my own glitter ornaments! I have a nautical tree so I think I'm going to use blue green glitter as fill ins.🎄❄🎄
Really loved the video. Would you be able to do a similar video showing different kinds of acrylic crafters paint.
I am going to add that to my list! :) great idea!
@@CorinneBlackstone that would be awesome. I want to try it but I got the acrylic crafters paint from dollarama. Not sure if the will do.
Thank u for sharing!! It's really helpful! God Bless 😊
I used krypton clear glaze and it worked well
I used paint last year...! Hmmmm I like this process... plus I now have a Cricut teehee
Can’t add pictures here
I have done paint too. Im going to do some different things other than glitter too!
ModPodge on the outside... air dry feature
@@rosinyberg8747 then the bulbs are glittery on the outside and it flakes off. Plus you cant put vinyl on it.
How do you prevent the paint from crackling?
Thanks for testing
I'm in Ireland, we don't have or at least I can't find polycyclic. Is it a varnish or a glue ?? Thanks for your vlog it was really helpful
It’s a sealant
it's a top coat for wood flooring. the polyurethane mixed with acrylic gives u a crystal clear gloss finish on wood
I hear it has to be mop and glo for wood, vinyl and tile or it won't work. Idk I havent tried it yet though
I still wouldn’t use it. I would still highly recommend polycrylic

Sounds like too much poly or possibly not any air flow to dry the poly
@@CorinneBlackstone Thank you for responding. So, should I let it drain out longer, before I put glitter in?

I did use clear elmer's glue
I should do this video again and see what else we can try. There are so many new products out now
The poly is what I used, but where did you find for $8?! Cheapest I found is $12 for a small container.
I got it at home depot last year

Polycrylic is the best and it does not yellow with age
Yep! Polycrylic is my number one choice!
Some one told me to try Deco Art Triple thick. I just tried it and so far so good.

Do you water down any of the glues?
Mod podge and the tack it
What kind of glitter do you recommend? Do you just put the top of the bulb back in or do you glue it in?
you just put the top on. Any glitter works but the finer stuff gives you better coverage.
@@CorinneBlackstone thank you so much!
Debbie Renier I like the fine glitter personally, but it's all a matter of preference. You can also mix different colors and/or sizes of glitters for more interest and different effects. ☺
Can you use glitter glue?
I tried with zero success
How much water do I need to dilute mod podge
Since this is not at all the recommended glue to use inside the ornaments I will say very little water. It is terrible and does not work regardless.
Great info just a quick question. Will the polycrylic yellow over time?
No.this is water based. The oil based polyursthane yellows
Corinne Blackstone thank you. This will be the first time making them and I want to make 50.

Yes I wish I would have done a darker glitter. sadly the camera didn't pick up the white like I had thought it would! :(
I reuse the glitter from the bulbs all the time. I have never had an issue with the quality. Why waste it?
Because I did not want to contaminate the findings of what glue works best.

mod podge and elmers will take several days to totally dry - beware.....
wow! a year later that size of polycrylic is now like $17! :{
