Man. I agree with other commentators. Been watching the channel for years. This is the best tone I’ve heard from you yet. I think you need to buy this.
I currently own a 68 deluxe reverb, 68 vibroluxe and recently traded a patrscaster for a 68 custom reverb. By far, this is the best of the series. The other two don’t get much use anymore.
@@aapddd id be happy to! The vibroluxe is an incredible amp, especially for recording. But but it’s kinda mid scooped when turning the volume up (mostly due to the 2x 10 speakers). This amp keeps the mids as you turn up and brings a room filling volume and fullness that is hard to beat. The saturation of the tube driven reverb and trem is incredible. Also, the tube sockets seem built a bit better these days. My 68 deluxe and my 68 vibroluxe both have tube chatter and rattle over the 4 on the volume knob
@@aapddd for what it’s worth, I think of the vibroluxe is a platform that sounds similar to having two Princetons running right next to each other in stereo. The custom pro reverb is like having the tone and power and fullness of a twin, but half the power. So for me… more useable in pretty much any situation.
@@erickmo1188 Aren’t most Fenders mid scooped ? I own a vintage SF Champ, 68 Custom Princeton, and the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. I’ve been thinking about buying this amp but I haven’t cuz I suffer from compulsive buying. I gig with the Deluxe and it is a great amp that I don’t see the need to buy the Pro Reverb even though I like that it reminds of a smaller Fender Twin Reverb.
I love 6L6 tubes; I had the 6L6 conversion done to my DRRI and I love it. Not necessarily louder, but cleaner at the same volume settings. Also, just a more full frequency tone, as Shane alluded to.
Love this amp. So versatile. Takes pedals well sounds great cranked and loud enough to cut through a mix and still break up a bit and have some hair on my clean.
This is what I want as far as tone and overall vibe of this amp!!! Even though I have a ToneMaster Twin I still want a Fender amp with tubes and this looks and sounds like what I’m looking for. I know I have been asking about this for a while and the main reason why I wanted you to review this Pro Reverb is your vast experience with Fender amps. If it was a dud you’d be the first to say so Shane. This will definitely be on my radar for the next amp for me. I hit 25 years with my company in a couple of years and what better way to reward myself than a new amp (and maybe a new Custom Shop?🤔). Thanks again Shane for looking out and finding a Pro Reverb to do a video on! Cheers!!🎸🎸🎸👌🏿😎😎
I with you Jamal! I have the Tonemaster Twin (Blonde) also. I've been talking to my Sweetwater rep for a few months about this amp and am just a few minutes from running over and picking one up.
I have the tone master twin & the pro reverb, both incredible, the tone master is just all wrong in the way the attack feels when plucking and for that reason feels kind of soulless to play compared to the tube Pro reverb. however the I do love the noise free feels of the tone master, tube rattle is driving me around the bend on my tube amps.. But yeah, the pro reverb has buckets of tube mojo and it's easier to feel hypnotised when playing compared to a tone master amp.
@@cosmoganic Yeah, the Tone Masters are a polarizing amp. I absolutely love mine. I note none of the "soulless" that you refer to. After playing the tube Pro Reverb again, I decided it didn't offer me enough to justify the purchase. Doesn't it make you wonder what each of us as individuals are "tuning in to" to come up with our assessment. Most important, PLAY ON!!!
Great assessment. I got one and put a Dr Z Z Brake attenuator in it and now I can tame it down as needed or open it up for a bigger stage. It could be my only amp. Great job Fender!
Well done review and demo. I appreciate you showing different guitars and pickup selection and playing without pedals to show the true tone of the amp.
I had an original 1970 Fender Pro Reverb Amp and it had 2 separate Channels. I sold it and bought a Carvin 400Watt solid state amp as at the time I wanted an amp with more power. Since then I acquired a 1966 Fender Super Reverb that the cabinet was cut and it was made into a separate head which I put into a empty Twin Cabinet that I had and added 2 Celestine Green Backs. I also acquired a fully original 1971 Twin Reverb in Excellent condition on the cheap. Both are all hand wired. No circuit boards.
Joe Bonamassa's signature amp also had 6L6 power tubes and 12AX7 pre-amp tubes. The Custom Pro Reverb seems to provide similar tones for half the price.
Really digging these fresh intro jams. Can tell you are trying to push outside your muscle memory. It'll do you good as a player too. It's a gorgeous sounding amp to boot!
I also have to agree... this is the best amp that fender is selling... sounds just unbelievable!!! Perfect pedal platform, perfect volume for anything but just the amps tone with that celestion creamback is astounding!!! Can't stop playing mine lol
About the :"perfect pedal platform" . How is it with delays/reverbs without the effect loop ,is it not messy ? cause this is right now the only minus in this amp for me that a little bit put me off from it.
Went to thomann and immediately saw the little fire symbol and "76 watching" hahah, it sounds so good! If you can get your hands on the new vibro champ I would love to see that.
Picked up one of these the other day after A/B-ing it with the Twin and Deluxe Tone Masters. This won on practicality over the Deluxe due to simplified channels, mid pot and bright switch. It sounded almost indistinguishable from the Twin (on 40w mode), which also had the Neo Creambacks. The Twin's larger cab and 2x12 config did not make as much as a difference as I'd thought it would, even at gig volume. I ended up picking it up due to its light weight and small form factor. Love it.
That is all the amp you will ever need Trevor. Sweet tones. How old is it and does it make any static noise> I am looking to grab one once I can afford to. I can save ~$300 on an older used one. Not sure if they updated anything with the newer Custom Deluxe '68's. I played a used one at GC and about 10 others, and kept coming back to the Deluxe.
Shane, I think that's the best tone you've had during one of these amp demos. I played one of these for hours while I was trading in some gear and it was fantastic. I walked out with the 68 Vibro Champ but I keep wanting to go back for the Pro (even though I wouldn't be able to turn up past 2 at my house).
Hi @Mordacain I got the Princeton 68 recently. I use it with an Audiostorm hotbox 125i at home and I can crank it up. They are great amps these fender 68s.
Did the same thing, although was looking at the Princeton for home use. The 68 vibro comes close though. Like a small version of the Princeton that can be turned up.
I have a 73 silver face Pro Reverb, and at one time, I also had a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I sold the Deluxe because beside the Pro, it was a disappointment. The Pro is much heaver but it has 2 12 inch speakers. I'll own this one till I leave this world.
Fantastic demo Shane - thanks. I got a 68 Princeton from the same range recently. I can't believe I've not tried them before now - beating myself up about it!!. If the gig schedule gets back to normal I'll be getting a 68 pro. You're even using my favourite OD pedal.
On the Deluxe Reverb, you can jump the inputs and get the best of both worlds! The Deluxe breaks up earlier and has a nice, more mellow bottom end. This one is great if you are on a stage- medium to large venue. Otherwise, it's the Deluxe for the win.
Probably the best of Leo,s circuit designs (AA165-AB165) the blackface 1965-67 amps, with the 2x12,s 40watts it was called the Baby Twin, same as but half the power.
I wasn't sure I'd like this version but I have to say it sounded great in this video. I had a 1965 Pro- Reverb with the two 12" speakers. It was one of my favorite amps. If I hadn't just purchased a Deluxe Master Tone I probably would've picked up one of these.
@@1951kbz sweet thanks. Im super indecisive on what my first true amp should be. Im upgrading from a 30 watt Solid state marshall. I like metal and country and jazz, so hard choice for me lol
@@cacaloca5434 Gotta say this amp is pretty loud and very clean. It would certainly be good for country and jazz but would definitely need a Marshall type pedal in front of it for metal. Personally I think the speaker is a little sterile and I may at some point do a speaker swap to see if it gives it a little personality.
I was thinking that amp on 6.5 had to be pretty blazing loud. I like to play loud at home and will play my Deluxe at 6.5, but I'd never get away with that at rehearsal, or a gig.
Man ....this may be my next amp it seems to be the perfect output and weight. I love a simple amp that takes pedals well . I have a super sonic 22 but I find my self using the clean channel on it with pedals more often than using the burn channel . I like that this has more clean head room with out alot of extra weight. This would be great with a extension cab I bet
Just wondering if you tried the unplugging the footswitch after engaging the vibrato. Sometimes you have to physically turn them on and then it's on until you plug the footswitch back in and kill the vibrato. Just a thought. Thanks for your video! I just bought one and waiting for it to be delivered. Now I'm extra excited! Frank
I've watched this twice now. I'm really considering this amp. This amp and a CaptorX would be *chef's kiss* perfect for my home studio. I'm still not 100% on the neo speaker, but they can sound great. Don't need an effects loop. Don't need a gain channel. This could be the One. It does have Neo in it....
I owned a '76 Pro Reverb for a long time, just before the changes made in 77, so it was still 40W. Missing the 2nd 12" speaker probably makes it a LOT lighter, but I would kind of miss it at the same time. Casters were already on it when I bought it so that was never a real problem. :)
Don't really need two channels to play the Blues. All is needed is a pedal friendly, tube driven amp with outstanding tone. If you play the Blues and enjoy listening to the genre and really get a kick out of playing them, then this beast --- if one is somewhat of a proficient player this amp can make one think they're somewhere down in Mississippi during the early 1940s. So can the 'Blues Deluxe Reissue' that preceded it. In medium large to smaller venues these monsters reign as kings for the average bluesman. They sound wonderful.
I'd love to hear reviews of the original amps that made fender want to reissue them. Ideally, ones that are attainable and affordable. As in: "1978 pro reverb vs 75 princton". sf twin vs 67 bassman head into cheap 412. There are A TON of $800 handwired original fenders in the states. (Generally silverfaced that can be EASILY modified to 64 specs or 62 specs if blackface is your thing)
The Pro has long been the most underrated Fender. I have a '66 pro blackface and it's without a doubt the greatest cleanish style amp I've ever played.
Man oh man. And I thought I wanted a DRRI, then I thought I wanted a Princeton, now...man oh man! What have you done to me, Shane! My poor bank balance... :) JK mate. But seriously....we wants one... *precioussss*
I have been looking at these for a while but just ordered a Mesa Triple crown combo for gigs. Might look at getting the Fender as well down the line for a pedalboard platform.
Hi Shane!!! Is it possible to play at a bedroom volume ? It seems so loud and there's no master volume that could help to maintain to sonic quality at low volume ! Very good playing as usual ! Take care !
Great demo of what is going to be a very sort after amplifier. Would love to have heard a bit more bridge pickup action. Even a humbucker would've been nice, just for balance. Long time subscriber and fan of your channel here. Keep up the good work. We live vicariously through you sometimes. Dig it
Any thoughts on how it compares to a Hot Rod Deluxe, clean headroom and volume? I need an amp that's at least as loud as clean as my Hot Rod. I'm in a band with a 2nd electric guitar and pretty loud drummer, lots of pub gigs with high volumes, and miking is not always possible. Or would I better off buying a Twin Tonemaster? Weight is important, so a tube Twin is no option. Hope you can help out.
There is a video that compares these two in it. Both are great. The HRD is muddier so might not cut through the mix as well. This one is sparklier, more detailed tones. Fender Pro Reverb is my favorite- 68 reissue. GC has it for 1199.99. I played it last night- very tempted but it's a lot of cheddar.
@DG-ti1jb Yeah, I pulled the trigger on it a few months ago. It's even more expensive over here (1600 euro's) but it's worth it. The sound is a little bit less full than the Hot Rod, a bit more boxy as it seems. But overall the tone is a lot more mature and detailed. It has a bit less headroom I've noticed, at volume level 4-5 it really starts to growl a bit, but that's okay. It's a nice drive sound, and it cuts through the mix. I have to mic it up more often, but that's no problem, that depends on the situation. Like a big pub kind of thing, with our own small PA system, I put a little Sennheiser E906 in front and that's fine. The weight is great, it's like 16 kg so more or less the same as my Twin Tonemaster. And... the reverb and tremolo are lush and full sounding, so that's real awesome.
Well thanks very much Shane. Watched this awesome video which made me go out and buy one! I had no choice…. Seriously though…. I’m very happy and incredible playing as always dude.
@intheblues Shane you did it again, I think this is the amp I might get! Forget a 20 watt amp, this might replace my Hot Rod Deluxe III - you think it’s an upgrade? - Chad from San Diego!
You can check out their Super-Sonic 22 heads. They are still a current model I am pretty sure. Heads and cabs don't sell that well so a lot of shops don't stock them as much as combos.
I think some of Bassbreaker series come as heads? They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I dig the 15 & 30r combos (I have a 15 combo with the 112 extension cab - good amp if you like the "Bassman-meets-JTM" thing). Didn't know about the Supersonic, great amp. Basically a DRRI with decent gain
Great video Shane, watched it twice in a row. Man that Keisel sounds awesome 🙂 Your playing and the amp's sound is just amazing. It's one of the best sounding amps that i've heard lately along with the Chris Stapleton amp. Chris Buck uses this amp and he also mentioned it having a lot of headroom.
On the 1966 Super Reverb one can bridge the channels together get Reverb and Vibrato on Both channels. Still would take my Vintage Hand Wired Fenders over some new Fender any day.
The originals were actually quite cold for quite some time. Everyone snatching up the Twin, etc... But as the need for less powerful amps starting, the Pro V naturally fit the bill...
First, I agree with the assessments in the video right down to the size and wattage. I had one years ago and regret ever selling it. Really great amp, but it did have some shortcomings. The Jensens were a love/hate kind of speaker which worked for some and not so much for others. I think the design choices Fender made are actually all in favor the player. Smaller, lighter, less expensive but not cheap, keeping only the single channel most people ever used anyways, and a Celestion are all spot on. Now if they made a Tonemaster version with a bit more midrange than they typically do for the same price as the Deluxe Tonemaster, they'd have a killer amp.
Great tone as always! Shane, since the Kiesel guitar has a neck pickup placed much closer to the fretboard in comparison to he regular T- or S-style does it produce more tasty mellow nasal/wooden tone?
This amp is something special! Wait till you hear it cranked. 🔥This video goes out to Subscriber Jamal who was asking me to review this initially. Rock on. 😀🎸

Frank
Sounds great and it has a mids knob too! Nice
Wooo, that's the tone!🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🤯🤯🤯🔥🔥🔥
Maybe a stereo jack plugged into the foot switch will turn the vibrato on? Perhaps with live shorted to ground.
I'd sure like to put it up against my Hot rod deluxe 4 because it's the best fender amp I've ever owned and I have on plenty of them
The Pro has long been the most underrated Fender.
Would love to see you review the Fender packs in Amplitube..
@@MOAB-UT oh and the Hot Rod definitely had more "oohmpf" or air movement you felt, more low and mid, but tone wise, the Pro is far more superior!
Well thanks very much Shane. Watched this awesome video which made me go out and buy one! I had no choice….
Seriously though…. I’m very happy and incredible playing as always dude.
Shane if you could only have the Pro Reverb or the Blues Deluxe which would you choose?
@intheblues Shane you did it again, I think this is the amp I might get! Forget a 20 watt amp, this might replace my Hot Rod Deluxe III - you think it’s an upgrade? - Chad from San Diego!
Thanks for the video Shane. Question. Why don’t Fender make a good pedal platform Head? 15/20 Watt or a 40/50 Watt. Thanks
You can check out their Super-Sonic 22 heads. They are still a current model I am pretty sure. Heads and cabs don't sell that well so a lot of shops don't stock them as much as combos.
@@intheblues Stole my response. @Dee Played a used combo yesterday and it’s exactly what you want. If you find a head get it sight unseen.
Great demo and playing, what model is the white Stratocaster?
It's a Fender American Original 50s Stratocaster.
That is a sweet sounding amp
On the 1966 Super Reverb one can bridge the channels together get Reverb and Vibrato on Both channels. Still would take my Vintage Hand Wired Fenders over some new Fender any day.
So the big question is, have you bought one for yourself yet? Great video.
Nice amp Shane, but seeing I recently got a Blues Cube Stage, I can't do any more spending for a while- how about an AB comparison mate??
The originals were actually quite cold for quite some time. Everyone snatching up the Twin, etc... But as the need for less powerful amps starting, the Pro V naturally fit the bill...
Kinda hoping the Fender tech working on my DeVille ML212 can’t fix the gremlin so I can return it and get a Pro Reverb.
One of your better playing lead-in's. The amp must have inspired you😊
Waiting for the tone master version on this amp
This is fairly light considering it's a tube amp.
I just replaced all the cheap Chinese parts in this amp, and replaced the speaker with a “Warehouse” brand speaker. What a monster amp!!!
I bought a new one of these Pro Reverb --using a Parker artist humbucker guitar --and I cannot tone down the sharp sounds coming from highs -
💙 love it !
I think Shane’s face when he began playing with the amp cranked says it all, doesn’t it?
lol good luck with that haha
Great tone as always! Shane, since the Kiesel guitar has a neck pickup placed much closer to the fretboard in comparison to he regular T- or S-style does it produce more tasty mellow nasal/wooden tone?
Never mind. I already found the tone comparison of Kiesel vs tele by Fender on your channel. Thank you.
I wish I could find one In australia - seem to be sold out everywhere until March next year!
I hear there’s about 100 back orders in Australia 😆
Was super lucky and snagged one in Aus recently down here in Tas! Definitaly worth the wait!
If you want reverb, this baby has it! Perfect compliment to that bone white beauty of a TeleStrater you were jamming with.
Sweet jam!
Would you replace the speaker or is the Celestian perfect for it?
It sounds great, I would leave it as is.
What would you recommend for someone looking for a 112 twin reverb?
Bought a 1970 Twin and wish I'd gotten either a Pro or a Vibrolux instead. The Twin was just way too loud for most situations.
