I agree with those who say this is the holy grail of fender amps. Light/portable, loud enough for anything, and great Fender cleans. The amp breaks up so nicely and unlike any other Fender amp. I can get good Classic rock Zeppelin tones out of it around 8 on the volume, but obviously an attenuator is helpful. Anyone who complains about it not having a master volume simply doesn’t understand that it will not sound great for this amp, as the real magic happens when the power tubes overdrive and master volumes overdrive the preamp (and maybe the phase inverter depending on MV design)
But adding an attenuator will interfere with the amp and speaker feedback cycle and destroy the fun and true sound of overpowered tubes driving the speakers. The speaker feedback will be eaten by the attenuator heating the planet ... 😮😢 Destroying rhe sound and fun of it.
I love this amp. Got it a couple of months ago and I use it more than my vintage Fenders (68 Super Reverb and 68 Bandmaster). It really is in the sweet spot for portability/power ratio, and offers a wide range of applications from "crank and ride the volume knob on the guitar" to pedal platform. I use a Weber Mass to bring the volume down when I play it cranked.

@@supersonicsroots It won't be loud enough. I have a Blues Deluxe and it is slightly louder than the pro reverb. Maybe an extension cab would help, but sounds like you need 100 watts, as 50 will barely give you one decibel over the Hot Rod.

I got one last week, although I like it, there is something strange in the low mid range, seems to have a mid hump that I cant EQ out, I using it with a G12H heritage 55hz and the original speaker. . I also have tube rattle due to original tubes being microphonic, replaced with some Sovtek I had from a bassman and no rattles and sound warmer.
I changed all the tubes for NOS Sylvania, and the speaker for a gold celestion, and I don't get your problem. I have a Princeton 65 Ri to compare, and when the mid is dialed they are almost alike.
I sent mine back…horrible glass rattle on 3 sent to me. Then I demo some at a different store and same issue. Brought the original one I got, and the replacement sent out to me by a Fender tech. He diagnosed it as cheap tube sockets. We swapped many power tubes and some would make it darker. But no matter what it was there at low volumes. Tended to shift from different notes. Horrible for soloing or any clean Jazz live or recording. Sent mine back as the Fender tech recommended. I went on to try the 65/68 deluxe at a local store with similar issues. The Mesa or Tone King Fender like amps had none of these issues. Left with a Tone King Imperial instead. If I could start over again, I probably would have bought the original Pro Reverb used locally and an attenuator. But love the Tone King! Stars aligned with money at the last second after a month of issues. So went with it!
Anyone experience a great amount of hum with this amp with the volume at 5 and on? All the reviews I’ve seen sound so clean. I’m still in the return window, please help!
Warning to people out there! I went through 3 new ones of these, as well as went to a different store to demo, and brought 2 to a Fender tech. That’s a lot of variety of the same amp new out the box! All had horrible glass tube rattle on different notes. It would get worse over time. Goldstar Fender tech found the power tube sockets on new Fender Builds are cheap and loose! As well as internal chases rattle. So it’s a real toss up! Some may not notice loud and live in a band, or plugging into another cab. However the ringing in notes will come through the mic possibly live. But it’s very different from normal turned up combo rattle. It did it on 4 different ones I had eventually at low volumes. Sadly I had to return, after all the work I put in to make this amp work. Several forums with the same story of people going to techs, swapping tubes, speakers. It’s always… I barely touch the power tube and it stops. It’s the sockets, and they need to be replaced. Looking at a $300 upgrade here plus possible more bench time by a tech. This is out the box pretty much. Not sure if reviewers are getting finely looked over amps, or using an OX Box and bypassing the speaker cabs. But I ended up with a Tone King Imperial MK2 instead. It has none of these issues. Fender QC is horrible right now, and I recommend buying local vintage instead if you want a Fender amp. I can’t believe they fumbled this new amp so hard. It’s a project to work on and when your done, might as well spent 2k on a boutique Fender clone amp, or used one for $800-$900 local. By the time you pay $1400, replace tubes, possible get new sockets, a tech look over to tighten up the chassis. You’re already close to 2k on this thing. As I said maybe used at $900, and a trip up the tech to make it $1300 total could be ok. But the new fender amps out the box, just seem to be built based upon profit margins. They are not built on quality at $1400-$1500 plus tax. $500 more you can get something better with better build and quality parts. As the Fender tech told me, you’ll just keep fixing, replacing and chasing till you move onto the next amp. Save your time and money and look at Tone King, Two Rock, Mesa and the others that do Fender styles. Or go vintage used that have been cared for over the years. Even normal reissues with new speakers near me go for $800 on 2021-2022 models! Only new Fender I touch or maybe trust is the 64 handwired. But then that 3k and too much asking price.
Mine had a tube rattle as well, sent it back amd the 2nd one had it too.. then I brought it in and they put new tubes in it, and it was fixed. But I ended up selling it because I didn't like the sound of it, I found it boxy and sterile and it was more like a Deluxe in volume and headroom, which is odd considering almost double the power. It wasn't loud enough clean, only sound 'okay-ish' up to volume 2-3 but then the clean tone went away fast and the boxiness came... nope, not for me. I ended up buying a used '65 Twin reissue, and after a set-up and new tubes, it's perfect for me 😊 the weight... ahh yes... you get used to it.
@@supersonicsroots I ended up with a Tone King Sky King at a good deal. And last Sunday found an Ampeg VT-40 no distortion/master volume amp to pair it. It’s been a killer combo for cleans to power tube distortion on the Ampeg to do the Queens of The Stone Age thing, or Rollong Stones. But yeah I’m glad I got rid of the Fender. The Fender tech said nice speaker but not much else. I have seen people mod them to BF and get them to work well. But apparently the Power Tube holders were cheap and the tubes just buzzed on 2 I had after trying 4 pairs with a tech.
@@mattg082 I get it, too bad. I thought the Neo speaker was too sterile and it lacked fullness or bottom end. Due to the small cabinet size, the sound was also boxy, there's little you can do to get that out. The tubes, yeah... rattle heaven. I'm glad I chose the Twin, it's monster (weight-wise) but the sound / tone is to die for. I mostly play clean (country, roots) and sometimes overdrive from a pedal. So I don't need real tube overdrive. Glad you also found your amp, good luck!
You're totaly right. All the 68 lineup is crap. I'm not bashing for the sake of it, because I would had loved to keep them .
I bought 3 of them, the Princeton, Deluxe, and Vibrochamp, and each one had bad tubes, cab rattle, and wierd pops and sizzle for 2 of them with nothing plugged in and all controls at Zero.
Fender just don't respect their customers and legacy.
Could you cover slowdive?
y is ur hand tanned
Wearing jackets in the sun ;)
Best fender amp.😂😂😂
I heard so me John Mayer here ;)
You did indeed! :)
A Hendrix song :)
Fat full and fabulous especially when kicked in the face with gain!!!
On 10!!! Are you ok man that kinda power can rattle the bones out of ya skin !!!!
Surprisingly it’s not as loud when cranked as you think hahah!
@@HarryAndAGuitar my new( used) champion 100 gets painfully loud and is still very clean 🤘🏽 I was looking at the neo cream backs to replace the stock drivers and lessen the weight even more than the 19kg it now. But that’s more than I spent on the amp itself 🤣
@@HarryAndAGuitar I have a home with no problems turning up but I havent had this over 6 and with the internal speaker and a G12h Heritage its damn loud on 6
Cranked to 10 with the T-style whoa that's the tone.
