First of all thank you for your thoughts on MPB. Sounds like it's a bit of a lottery buying from them. Keep up the videos, they are nice and informative.
I've had mostly good buying experiences from MPB, but the most recent camera I purchased was over-praised in its description and turned out to be a bit of a dog. To be fair to them, they offered a replacement without me asking, only trouble was the replacement had a couple of faults, too. In the end I paid a bit more and traded up in condition, and I'm finally happy with what I've got. It's a bit of a crapshoot, as I believe they mostly estimate on cosmetic condition unless something is obviously broken and hanging out. Allied to that, they're probably quite busy and nobody can know every detail of every camera model so things will slip by.
I've had similar mixed results with MPB in the UK. Sent a drone in and valuation was dropped from original quote, had them send it back. Got a Fuji X-T3 battery grip for a very good price in better condition than listed. Generally I find MPB prices are higher than other sellers. I've had some really great deals from Park Cameras, a D700 for £140 was the most recent one a couple of weeks ago. Comparing the price and condition with listings on MPB, I saved around £80. A company I've used which gets very little coverage is CeX, I've bought a few items from them, if they say an item is A grade, you can expect it to be in pristine condition. I've had a Fuji X-T10 with 18-55 lens, an M1 iMac, an iPad Air 4, all at cheaper prices than other sellers and all in amazing good as new condition. CeX give a two year warranty. Any items I've ordered online from them which I haven't been happy with the condition of, I've taken in to one of their high street shops and got a full refund without issue.
That's good to know, thanks for the suggestion. I fear that since the UK is not in the EU anymore, the shipping / customs would be pretty high, importing to France. I'll check it out of the prices end up alright for sure.
CeX operate in a few EU countries, Netherlands, Spain, RoI, Portugal, so you could possibly buy from them without the customs hassle associated with Great Brexitania
In Germany they usually offer the lowest prices of any tech buying sites, I never sell there. On the other hand, they often also offer the best prices when buying used as well. Sometimes even less than private sellers. So far, I had some excellent experience with gear being much better than the listed condition would make you think. Only one bad experience with a like new lens that had a defect and they were a bit “hesitant” to give a refund. But that makes me feel that they wouldn't be to helpful when one has to use their one year warranty.
yeah you have to keep on sending emails sometimes, which is annoying. It takes them a looong time to sort things out too. When I had to send back my D700, it got stuck in their warehouse waiting to be examined for 2.5 weeks, easy. I didn't ask for a refund, but I needed to ask them several times for the link for me to pay the 5€ difference with the replacement unit, otherwise it would have taken a LONG time, or straight up they wouldn't have sent it, or whatever. No way to know for sure, but I'd keep pushing with constant emails if I was in any kind of transaction-that-went-wrong with them
The same varied experiences from MPB here in the UK. I think the main problem is they aren't photography people but business people and operate from a warehouse. I now prefer to use long established photography shops that I can contact if I have an issue and they know their business.
I have purchased several DSLRs and lenses along with filters and a couple of camera bags from MPB New York. All were perfect transactions. Unlike you, I only buy Like New and Excellent condition items. I would never buy Good or Well Used condition items. In fact, I use MPB's Search Filter and only look at Like New and Excellent listings.
Yes, that would probably save me a lot of headache, the only problm with that is that the price ends up being considerably over what I would find those items for locally. I really don't mind some wear on the gear I use, so I see in that an occasion to save money. Judging by the other videos O've seen about MPB, I feel like this is how people are using this platform the most. Cheapest cameras are always the ones that gets bought first.
My experience is mixed. Got a good deal on a used camera. I sent a used camera to them that they estimated they would buy for $300. They dropped the offer to $289. I rejected their offer and when I got it back the camera was damaged and they didn’t return 2 of the batteries. They refused to make things right. Don’t trust.
Theres A Nikon d3100 Im thinking to get in good condition for only 75 euro. It says theres a few dead pixels on the screen but Im just confused why is it so cheap?!
there are a couple of D300s at 73€ on MPB Europe right now. If you're okay with a larger camera I'd get that instead, it has the same sensor but much better AF and build quality. Otherwise this D3100 seems fine.
@@uncertainrelease Ok thank you. I was just confused because the d3100 im looking at right now is in good condition, 75 euro and has a shutter count at around 30k. Where there is also another d3100 in a heavily used condition for the same price with a higher shutter count.
@@auburn2020 if you want to use it for plane spotting, the better viewfinder of the D300 and the better autofocus would be beneficial I think. It's basically the same sensor as teh D3100 that was put in a much better camera body
I've bought and sold lenses to them I've never had a bad experience with a purchase, there have been times where I received a bad unit but after talking to the customer service they've able to sort out any issues I've faced. Im US based btw idk how they operate in other countries.
From what I've seen, there is massive differences sometimes between the differnt MPB services, depending if you're in the UK, US or EU. I've only had to deal with MPB EU, so of course all teh comments I make in this video are only applying to them.
Indeed it does. To me they simply don't train their tech properly, and they have surface level knowledge, not specialist level knowledge like they seem to claim. They miss a lot of things that they shouldn't
Sold and Bought from MPB for years ! Never any Problems!

AVOID - they sent me a totally defective camera as "functioning". Still waiting for my money returned
