I remember back in 1972 Orange County Raceway,.. I saw Nanook,.And several other AA/FA,. Berry Setzer funny car Vega stole the show with those long burn-outs. The good ol days.
I love the altered name "BLIND FAINT" nothing more true than that connection between drivers of AA/FA and the heavens! God Bless the faithful warriors .
The first fuel altereds were much shorter, and most used a straight axle up front. The more successful teams used a Chrysler Hemi or a derivative of it, but I have seen pictures of cars with Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Ford, and Chevrolet engines. The "wedge" type engines sound very different from the Hemi.
Aa/fa should be allowed to returned to the big show, popular, unexpected antics , bring much needed DIVERSITY to the sport perhaps a mix a/fds to. Rear engine f/c should return also by now all tech issues should be resolved.
For all you "young people" you got to understand these Engines, HEMI (392's) were only built for two years. ! And only sold by Chrysler in their New Yorkers and Imperials, just so's you know ! There are still thousands of them out there amazing people.
NO BETTER SOUND! WHEN i WAS YOUNG AND DUMB AND...........I THOUGHT THERE WAS,NOW I'M OLD AND KNOW THERE IS NOT A BETTER SOUND ,PERIOD! I'M YELLING SO YOU CAN HEAR ME AND I'M DEAF NOW,........WHAT?
David Benjamin Saw you race many times Dave. Quite the innovator. Fellow Washingtonian here. Though I can remember Desert Magic lettering on your tow rig. Best of luck always.
It wasn't gas ,it was Nitro ! Lot of Nanook ,not much Pure Hell. I met The daughter of the one of the original drivers for Nanook ,she was at my cousins party out in Redlands, Ca. , about 20 years ago.
No way in hell i work around even blown alcohol cars without at least ear plugs, and i try to have both ear plugs AND earmuffs on when im doing this. Hearing loss is not glamorous or tough. It just sucks.
