- "You and Your Friend" is the sixth track from the 1991 rock album On Every Street by the British rock band Dire Straits. The song was the fifth song to be released as a single, and the final single overall released by the band. The single was only released in France and Germany. A live rendition appeared towards the end of the On the Night album and DVD

This is Mark Knophler at his best. One of the most soulful songs done by one of the best guitarist ever. This is a true artist in his element.
Love it but do prefer the released album studio version. Master of mood is Knofler.

The guitar solo at the end is little short of devastating. It is a soul crying out from a monstrous black hole. I identify with it. Probably not marks intention at all. Hes just doing his thing. But to me it is probably the most soulful and profound and sublime sound ive ever heard.

Bought for xmas Alchemy n One the night....of course Sultans and a few songs i knew, but tunnel of love, telegraph road, private investigations and the live sax part of Romeo n Juliet. And the beautiful Wembley version of the powerful Brothers In Arms. The world misses more music like this

A guitarist putting his soul on the instrument, each note has its place, he knows where to go and how to get there, it is always the expression of a thought, an explosion of feelings, to see Knopfler play is to contemplate the art happening, it is to experience each note as if it was a single moment!
Like the old Blusman, he knows how to make the guitar groan like no one else, in a unique way. At this level, the guitar is no longer just an instrument, but an extension of your body, connected with your soul!

The world was busily obsessed with Nirvana and grunge when he was playing this in their last tour. The difference in maturity level between this a grunge is big. I guess we were immature in the early 90s.
I can listen to this twenty times in a row and it still gets better. A masterpiece. If I could play like that, I would feel like God.
I still come back to this absolute masterpiece.. The way mark knopfler conveys emotions through his guitar is mesmerizing.. This is one of the most hypnotic and moving songs of dire straits

Such exquisite tone and playing. Years go by and Mark is still one of the great teachers. Even for long time guitar players like myself, his playing remains a mystery of unusual licks, strange artifacts and unpredictable phrasing. A tasteful gentleman of the instrument.

On Every Street had been the most polished, sophisticated yet ruggedly bluesy album they ever produced. Each track on the album screams of the trademark Knopfler signature but with meticulously laid musical layout and arrangement. The studio recording and production was incredibly crisp for an album cut in the early 90s analogue platform.
Mark is always laid back but not his fingers they play for them selves :) KING
