Those prices, with that model?! I like the sound of that. That's the benefit of competition that happens a lot in America. Also, I should really see how much my Hobbytown E-unit is with weight packed in, as it weighs just a bit more than the class 60 while empty and with too much air inside! Thanks as always Sam.
Considering this is a preproduction loco, it looks flipping fantastic! What a locomotive! The loco in real life is amazing, and this captures this perfectly! The detail is stunning, as with all accurascale locos, and despite it having 66 sounds, the sound is beautiful, as always an amazing "review" sam, looks great!
I can remember when these entered service for real and what a saga it was. The American class 59-1 was entering service with the then ARC and at the same time they entered full squadron only service eighteen days after landing in the UK. The class 60 locos were constantly going back to Brush for "modifications". I wonder how many BR MK1 coaches they could haul in reality for the Foster Yeoman's class 59's could haul 115 BR MK1's. Nicely detailed model Sam.
Out. Of. The. Park. This thing is way way more capable than I need it to be. Nonetheless I'm sure that one (or more than one) will be finding a home on my layout. Credit to Accurascale for giving Sam the opportunity to share this with us.
I know this was only a "preview" and not a proper review, but can I just say how glad I am to see you incorporate DCC into the review. So many manufacturers are incorporating more and more innovative features with DCC (and Accurascale really do seem to be in the vanguard) that it feels increasingly "incomplete" to review locos without testing the range and quality of these features.
Nice to see you reviewing with DCC fitted, yes its plain to see that Accurascale are in my opinion the best value model railway manufacture and they have an excellent after sales service. Keep up the good work Sam.
I’m not into British diesels, British steam yes and American/Australian diesels yes. Now however I want to buy this model, that lighting alone is amazing!
I think Accurascale is proving the point you can make models for a reasonable price, which aren't just lumps of cheap plastic. I didn't really have any interest in buying a class 60 until this video. Maybe I'll pick one up when they release.
I realize this may be the wrong video for this but thanks for what you do Sam. Just last week I bought the Class 66 from Accurascale and was blown away with the detail, quality and performance. If anything, I was disappointed how I had overpaid for prior locomotive models in retrospect that didn't measure up to Accurascale's model in comparison. Thanks for helping the less established brands elevate the bar industry wide!
I agree with Matt, Accurascale are the only manufacture offering value for money. Great reviews Sam you are doing a great job for the hobbey. Keep it up!
Sam, I for one really appreciate this video and this has swing my preference in favour of getting the Accurascale Class 60 model. I did read on RMWeb that this model is actually 825g so the measurement in weight is very close to that and it makes this one possibly one of the most heaviest model trains in OO Gauge for a freight locomotive. Accurascale has really put a lot of effort into their Class 60 model and being announced on my birthday that was the 6th of June as well really has made this new model even more special to me. So a big thanks to Accurascale for trusting you to put their beta model through some serious tests and respect to you for the honest coverage as well. I for one am getting the Accurascale Class 60 and I have 4 of them on pre-order. Great value and I am getting sound. I do mostly O gauge model trains nowadays but it would be rude not to buy a handful of these in the process as well. Here is a like from me mate.
It is great to see you reviewing preproduction models and I really hope Cav and Alex take up your offer to look at their Class 60 in its current state as their Class 56 is exceptional and I think was the first to offer flange squeal. It is fantastic to see the superior locos these companies offer, along with Revolution and Rapido and is a golden era for the modellers and I do think you need to incorporate more DCC to show the fullest of the features. For me, I have pre ordered Class 60’s from both Accurascale and Cavalex and I am sure they will be well matched!
Believe it or not, the Changming SS8 in N SCALE had that bogie curves senser too, glad to see this feature finally making its way to the UK. Better late than never. 😉
Sams's usual high-quality review of a high-quality not yet-model from Accurascale. Accurasrecale are to be congratulated not only on their model; but on letting Sam & us see whats coming down the track!
I know some Class 60's had names but never knew there was one called "Spirit of Jaguar". For a preproduction it's actually shaping up to be better than a lot of final products. Truly this is a labour of love. Those stay alive capacitators are pretty impressive on such a large loco too. The likes of them should be a must on a short wheelbase loco as those are more likely to cut out on points.
I would say that the 60 is my favourite modern BR diesel, especially in its first liveries. Nice Job Sam, can’t wait to see one permanently added to your roster given your positive reception
Well Keith if the 56 is anything to go by i will have one alongside the Accurascale! Just gutted that i missed out on the exclusive DCR grey through Key Publishing way back, it was sold out on pre order, and also missed out on Cavelex DCR 60091. Crazy asking prices on ebay and that's only when they show up on ebay, which is never!
Mine too after their class 56, its the best diesel loco made yet imo, blown my Accurascale deltic and class 37 out of the water, how about a review of Cavalex's class 56 @SamTrains?
Honestly, the plain gray cab doesn't look too bad! 20:48 I looked back at your Speedy Pete video, and Pete pulled 56 coaches+Bullman before crashing into Bullman at the rear. Implying you didn't change the outside track, that class 60 pulled about 55 coaches! Speedy Pete is still the strongest at 4.2 Newtons or 300+ coaches!
The coach derailment at 21:15 is more to do with the deficiencies of any tension lock coupling and mounting of couplings on bogies. This is due to tension locks not pulling on the coach centre line and coupling forces twisting the bogies out of line and not allowing the wheels to take up the position they should on the track. At my clubs very extensive layout occasionally trains of several hundred feet have been run. This was done with Kadee couplings body mounted so coupling forces not being transmitted to the wheels.
I already had a Cavalex 60 ordered, now I'll be ordering another from Accurascale. I wonder if either company will have a class 58 in the pipeline, I think they had the same or similar bogies. Good and honest preview as I expect from you, I always respect the way you work 100% honest.
Really good work, it looks thought-through and high quality to me. Well done, we would need more companies like this. If they also keep spare parts and make it easy to order parts in the future, this is a top service and top company. Just wanted to say, thanks! I worked a bit in a model railway company and there is a lot of manual labour involved, from printing to drilling holes or mounting pieces, press fit axles together etc. There is a lot that goes into such a product and most customers dont know or understand that. Very good, very good modern model.
🤣 When you started placing those coaches on the track, I though "Wait, this is not April 1st ....." but you showed that the engine would be capable to pull the whole train. This was a good preview, enough to possibly pull me into OO and British equipment. Thank you!
Be careful mate. I model HO scale Norfolk Souuthern. Yet somehow I have 30 British locomotives and counting. The British stuff like it’s U.S counterparts is rather addicting 😊
Truly amazing! This reminds me of a review I saw some years ago when I was doing British-outline N. The reviewer had a "UNION MILLS" locomotive - I don't now recall what model it was - but he put his standard 'test' number of wagons on the track, set the locomotive going and added more until he ran out of wagons. I think the total was over 40. Now, if one was available in 1930's GWR livery, I'd be very tempted . . .
Fantastic review Sam, so pleased you were sent 60065 as it was the only operational 60 waring the former EWS livery for years. It was the Toton shunter for a long time, but occasionally was aloud out to play. I caught it a couple of times two years ago through Stockport Station on a working, think it ran for five days and nights then returned back to Toton. I have some footage of it on utube. Rails of Sheffield announced an exclusive of 60033 in the gorgeous British Steel blue livery yesterday to pre order and im sure it will come in a presentation box just like some of the exclusive class 66's do, such as the orange and black Freightliner example. Hope you will do a full review when it arrives. I have just become a member of your fine channel! Cheers Nick Redshed.
Your test reminded me of 60 years ago trying to pull every coach and wagon on our layout. Exactly the same happened. The coaches came off the track sideways.
Gotta say this is how I would build a loco. I dont know the basics of the details for the class 60, but the delicat wiper blades on the windscreen lead me to believe Acurascale did not miss anything. What with the level of construction and detail combined I as an American would fear they would ask an a price far outweighing Bachmann or Hornby. I hope for the best. This is stunning. One further thought. The sound of the flanges keening on the rails. That speaker sounds so deep and forward, realistic.....through admittedly my phone speaker. I am so used to hobby rail road sound effects sounding like they are in a coffee can. I am really impressed with the advances in this area. Wonder what the other sounds are like. And wondering if Acurascale has attempted traditional steam? With construction like this....🤷♂️
Accurascale is the new top dog as they say. You seem to have the inside track to acquiring these new releases, thumbs up to you. Great video, Jersey Bill
You get all those features for less than £200, Accurascale need congratulating. Even the sound fitted option is really good value. Thank you for such a good insight and thank you Accurascale for lending you the prototype.
Finally honor enough to be early to a Sam's trains video, as an American modeler you make me want to specifically use your reviews to set up my own British railway one day! Lovely videos and another amazing review sam! much love!
Although the class 60 is way out of my era of modelling I do have a fondness for them! Looks absolutely stunning and at a consistent price point with quality that puts other manufacturers to shame! 👏 👏 👏
Looking to get myself a new 60 as my current hornby one isn’t in the best condition, when it comes to it though I’m also looking at the cavalex one as the experience I have had with my 2 56s from them which today have just been sound fitted make their 60 look like it will be a good model, decent video here Sam.
Great reviews Sam, I'm a pensioner and can't afford these new models but I still love to look at your reviews. You do great job and I'm always interested to hear now you emphasise how manufacturers charge exorbitant prices. Keep up the good work!
Accurascale kicks a** with a sledgehammer ! My class 37 is a jewel, this oen is ready to be in the same ballpark. When you see a preseries engine better in everything than some recent serial models (Hornby Black 5 anyone ?), you can say this is serious business.
That was very kind of Accurascale to send you their sample model of the class 60 diesel locomotive to review on your channel Sam. I hope you will get this model to review soon because it is so damn good. Plus, its price is reasonable and you get what you have paid for it.
thanks for your honesty, enthusiasm and knowledge Sam i enjoy your reports, even if this is only the first time i have left a comment. keep up the good work. this is a lovely prototype.
Now the bogie mechanism with the flange sound in the curves blew my mind. As well the fact that it can haul over 70 coaches. 70! What the actual hell is this? Sam I think it's time to become partners with Accurascale. They seem to wipe the floor with decent priced models and their service seems really kind sending this and the 37 with DCC sound a few months back. Astonishing. I'm not hugely into modern diesels, I stick around steam and some early diesels like the Class 16, 20 or 28 but this is seriously tempting for me. Hats off yet again to Accurascale. Also, did you hear anything about their Buckjumper J67 from the GER? It's gonna release soon and I'm incredibly excited for it. Great showcase, I want one if they hit stores. DCC sound fitted of course to take in the new flange sound.
That is a beast of a model diesel loco, isn't it? With that mass AND a motor that's capable of moving it (along with silly amounts of rolling stock attached), it's a truly stellar performer. To me, £169 is currently a lot of money to spend in one go, but this is worth it. If the full production model meets, or even exceeds, the standards set by this pre-production model, it'll be worth every penny. Mind you, 823 grams of model loco will need careful handling when you move it by hand from point A to point B, and I'd be thinking of making a carrier for this one :)
The screeching effect is so cool. Every other sound equipped loco made after this fantastic model will sounds dumb if not providing this option. It's very elegantly implemented too, completely hidden feature, works very realistically... Sure it's eye (ear) candy, but made so brilliantly, it becomes a must have feature, not a bodged, for fun, gadget. The rest is excellent. I genuinely jaw-dropped for the windscreen wipers! This things are, what, 0.20mm thick? I mean thin.... Only thing that can be improved, maybe including crew cab figures, of course, with the level of detail of the cab, it really asks from some guys sitting here! Some details could be made of metal, like the horns, for example, finer horns would complement the incredible wipers. That's nice for them to lend you this sample. But it's a free, throughout, unbiased quality control for them after all.
Just looks and performs fantastic. Knowing of Accurascales growing reputation ,I didnt have any hesitation in preordering 60 001 which is the right loco for the era.I am doing. Should they do 60002 then I would order that too. Price is great and the support of many charities .Great review Sam and its good to see Accurascale gave you a lot of slack to enable to do an excellent preview.
Absolutely stunning! This loco is so amazing Combining all the technology and no how available in this day and age Let’s hope it makes Hornby, bachman and co wake up a bit Not a single part loose or a detail wrong No paint or lining that was poor No glue marks When can they make a steam engine because I can’t wait
The EWS colours on this Class 60 definitely takes me back to when I was a kid, walking down Port Talbot Steelworks. I wonder if 60065 was one of those engines?
More than impressive, and all this prototypical high fidelity for that price is just astonishing. In all fairness, it does enable a tad of skepticism from our side in a sense that Accurascale had their share of quality problems once the article went through production in China. Those prices and what you get is rather enticing. Let's also hope that consistent quality comes with them. However, the entire package does look extremely seductive. If consistent high total quality has been integrated, we're all for it! Cheerio.
Collecting these high definition models with their advanced features is a hobby in itself. My fear in purchasing a model like this is you would have no chance of repairing it yourself if the manufacturer goes out of business! Thanks for uploading.
@@PORT_OF_PAR_2572Wishing you a speedy recovery, yes Sam is a good tonic for sure! I have just subbed you, wishing you well snd get better very soon, cheers Nick Redshed.
You can run out of words when confronted with a model like this, The flange squeal really did it for me! Sam you are one lucky dude! - BTW think you need a bigger layout!
The bit of the loco that you can see through is actually the radiator compartment where coolant and engine oil are cooled. I think the air receivers are in there as well.
Astounding model! What a great loco with fantastic features, great finish and excellent capability. It's so good the price seems almost reasonable. The only thing I disliked was that garish livery, but I believe there are other options... Given that, I'd order one today if I lived in the UK!
Outstanding. There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to do this model justice. I sincerely hope that Accurascale do not water-down this model in any way because it appears to set the bar, for quality and immersion, to a new high. At least for diesels!
Gauge lighting?!! I live on the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border and really liked the 60s pulling huge trains of wagons. The model is equally impressive 🙂
Nothing really wrong with the Lima Class 60 if, like me, it is only put into a glass case. However, The Hornby version lifted the game but at a far higher price (better detail and a better motor). Rails are now discounting their Hornby versions down as low as £130 but that is not low enough when Accurascale's new model is only £170 RRP. May as well buy the Accurascale model unless the Hornby version can be discounted to sub £100.
Super amazing review of the Class 60 from Accurascale 👍👍 Truly looks amazing and nice looking model and it a 10 out of 10 in my opinion. Oh by the way Sam, I’ve just bought NEW model locomotives during yesterday and today in both N & OO scale.
@@SamsTrains I went for a 4F in British Railways. I’m planning to have half British & American sides of a N gauge model railway layout. I also bought the new Dapol 0-4-0 saddle tank and it the one from the Isle of Wight.
Being the manchild I am, I saw 60065 as a word (with "6" being "b" and "5" being "s"). With that said, it's great that you are getting these unique opportunities from the manufacturers. I bet you feel like you have really made it.
Hi Sam. If the weight trend in model diesel locomotives carries on then you will have to reinforce your loft floor. ;-) Seriously great review and keep up the good work...
Thanks, Sam. good review. I've I'm thinking about getting one. Can you push cavalex to send you one of their class, 60, to do a review? I loved to see both compared with each other has I do like cavalex Model to.
Accurascale is AMAZ!NG! The stereo speakers and the flange squeal mean that the sound is state of the art. The crawl and the pulling power mean that the performance is top of the line. The build quality is unmatched and the detail is the best available. My suggestion to all the other manufacturers is to buy one of these, give it to your Chief Engineer and tell him to design better locos!
Accurascale are for me the only ones offering value for money these days. Stunning models
Rapido when they get it right are great. But beyond these 2 it's difficult
Yeah, I'd say they're leading the way for price/quality - more power to them!

I feel Dapol are up there too.
Cavalex are ones to watch too. Their class 56 is outstanding
@@sullivanrachael Agreed!

Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great reviews Sam, I'm a pensioner and can't afford these new models but I still love to look at your reviews. You do great job and I'm always interested to hear now you emphasise how manufacturers charge exorbitant prices.
Keep up the good work!
Nice looking model, and glad you got the opportunity to get hands on it pre-release!
Thanks Phillip - yes it was very kind of Accurascale - really enjoyed doing this!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Accurascale kicks a** with a sledgehammer ! My class 37 is a jewel, this oen is ready to be in the same ballpark.
When you see a preseries engine better in everything than some recent serial models (Hornby Black 5 anyone ?), you can say this is serious business.
They really do don't they! There's real passion in these models, you can tell!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
They look very enticing , excellent price & great detail. Can't wait for the full review. Thank you.
That was very kind of Accurascale to send you their sample model of the class 60 diesel locomotive to review on your channel Sam. I hope you will get this model to review soon because it is so damn good. Plus, its price is reasonable and you get what you have paid for it.
It was indeed - I will get a final example to review!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
thanks for your honesty, enthusiasm and knowledge Sam i enjoy your reports, even if this is only the first time i have left a comment. keep up the good work. this is a lovely prototype.
I have have ordered my one Sam G.B.R.F. IT LOOKS GREAT. I've got there class 37 and its just great. great video again Sam thank you.
Loving that coach test sam 😅
Our class 56 (cavalex) had this feature and our forthcoming class 60 does as well.
Spectacular!!
Absolutely! :D
Great video Sam, considering this is a preproduction locomotive it does look fantastic, I'm glad that I have pre-ordered one of these already.
I think so too - for pre-production it looks brilliant!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
SAM - Super review ! I hope they come out with a pre-1950 Steam Locomotive with ALL of these features someday.
This loco is so amazing
Combining all the technology and no how available in this day and age
Let’s hope it makes Hornby, bachman and co wake up a bit
Not a single part loose or a detail wrong
No paint or lining that was poor
No glue marks
When can they make a steam engine because I can’t wait
It's epic isn't it? The combination of different tech is a very good point too!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cheerio.
Do a Hornby comparison side by side.
Your content is the best ever 🎉
Thank you so much!
This is gonna be a good watch considering I ordered the EWS one
Ahh excellent - just right for you then!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Just pre ordered this using your link Sam thanks! Wish they still did the EWS Class 66 as i would of ordered one too.
Collecting these high definition models with their advanced features is a hobby in itself. My fear in purchasing a model like this is you would have no chance of repairing it yourself if the manufacturer goes out of business! Thanks for uploading.
haha very true it is a hobby in itself! I'd say the same is true for any modern loco unfortunately!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam makes me feel better watching your videos while I’m ill at the moment keep it up
Oh no I'm sorry to hear that 😞
@@Gatherleymodeller. thanks mate it’s been lovely to watch your vids aswell while I’m feeling drained i will upload a video again once I’m better 🙂
Ahh so sorry to hear you're ill - hope you feel better soon!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains thanks Sam Im feeling way better today than I did yesterday hopefully tomorrow I’m fully better
Duly noted, thanks for the info!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, Yes very nice, bring it on, All the best Brian 😄
Great Video Sam, That flange squeal is FANTASTIC
Astounding model! What a great loco with fantastic features, great finish and excellent capability. It's so good the price seems almost reasonable. The only thing I disliked was that garish livery, but I believe there are other options... Given that, I'd order one today if I lived in the UK!
The model is utterly amazing.
I think so! :D
Awesome video Sam's trains 🚆 😊
Thanks Brian!
@@SamsTrains you're welcome Sam's trains 🚆 😊
Brilliant Sam, seeing this makes me wonder if I should try one of their class 50s after all 🤔
Sam, could you please do a video all about DCC? I’d love to hear your recommendations for getting started, controllers etc.
I'm looking forward to my pre-ordered one arriving.
I love that the EWS logo is a lion, a dragon, and a stag
Outstanding. There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to do this model justice. I sincerely hope that Accurascale do not water-down this model in any way because it appears to set the bar, for quality and immersion, to a new high. At least for diesels!
Pre ordered 2 when they announced this loco. Looks fabulous 😆
Looks like a template for what other manufacturers should be doing. Amazing. You're like a boy at Christmas, Sam. Exciting innit. 🎅
Absolutely - it was just like Christmas indeed!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
After seeing this amazing loco, I have the sinking feeling my railway will soon be going through a transition from steam to diesel, too.
Another great show well done sam
Gauge lighting?!! I live on the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border and really liked the 60s pulling huge trains of wagons. The model is equally impressive 🙂
Ahh fantastic - yeah very impressed with this so far!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
That's so amazing video sam
Thanks Justin! :D
Worked on the full scale version of this very loco. This looks good, but, the silencer don't look quite right
Fantastic model!! Great video!!
Yes!!! I love the class 60! With such good prices i might save up to buy one
Awesome!! It's certainly very affordable for what it is!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ooh wonderful! What did you go for??
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains I went for a 4F in British Railways. I’m planning to have half British & American sides of a N gauge model railway layout. I also bought the new Dapol 0-4-0 saddle tank and it the one from the Isle of Wight.
I can see this model going as near as damnit to the top of the leaderboards!
DONT BUT ANYTHING FROM ANYONE ELSE AS ACCURASCALE SHALL DO ALL MODELS OF EVERY CLASS EVENTUALLY
Being the manchild I am, I saw 60065 as a word (with "6" being "b" and "5" being "s"). With that said, it's great that you are getting these unique opportunities from the manufacturers. I bet you feel like you have really made it.
Amazing model, thanks Sam!!!!
Thanks Robert, glad you liked it!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Lol I've always wanted you to set up a coach Oroboros all the way round your layout!
3:56 oh my....
Hi Sam. If the weight trend in model diesel locomotives carries on then you will have to reinforce your loft floor. ;-) Seriously great review and keep up the good work...
Accurascale really do make the nicest and poshest boxes.
They do don't they!
