Good afternoon Charlie. I just would like to thank you very much for your advice about buying this light I have just received it and it works a treat specially for doing jigsaws and models it sorted me out. And also thank you again for negotiating a discount I hope everybody listens to your sound advice it's well worth it and thank you for all the trouble you do to get it. Many thanks David
I have loved watching your videos. A few years ago I ripped up my N gauge layout, sold everything I owned and never looked back until now. You have shown us and given us (the avid viewers) a new passion via plain speaking. I now want to rebuild - all be it a new layout in my attic... Roll on 2020. Many thanks for everything
I've never understood why viewers would complain about a longer video, especially such an Informative one. All they need do is change viewing Speed in the Settings or breakdown into several viewing sessions. UA-cam keeps a History for easily recalling an unfinished viewing. Keep Up the Great Work!
Hi Charlie, I am new to your channel as I am to railway modelling, in later life. I found you video so precise and helpful. Looking forward to viewing the rest. Thanks.
Nice to actually see someone working on a railway instead of just talking about it then showing it done keep up the good work and can we have more videos like this thanks and have a nice Christmas and happy new year
I also learn from the mistakes shown, as it helps my morale when I make a mistake as it helps reduce my frustration. As even an expert such as you can make a mistake and shrug it off and fix it and continue. Thanks for all the instructional videos. You provide us a treasure trove of information and advice. Stay safe and keep chugging along,
Charlie another great video! You are such a likable down to earth guy!I find alot of fellow modellers boring with no personalities!Great informative vid!Keep um coming!
Hi Charlie, Thanks so much for such a friendly and totally informative video. You’re a born teacher. Recently, at 82 years young I decided to pull out my model train stuff that I’ve had hidden away for about 40 of those years. Needless to say the track was in terrible condition, black with corrosion. I took a chance, grabbed handfuls of track and immersed it in a bath of Pepsi Cola, (I’m assuming Coke would work just as well) and let it sit for about four hours. I then rinsed the track off really well then immersed the pieces in warm water and detergent and let it sit overnight. In the morning I rinsed the track off again and scrubbed the rails and connectors with a 3M type plastic scouring pad. I was amazed to see, with very little effort, that the rails cleaned up, from charcoal grey to bright and shiny. Thanks again for your inspiration.
I really enjoy the way you present and edit your videos. They are clearly explained and you have very good presentation skills. Thanks for all your help
Nice informative video Charlie. Good speed for me as I am new to this and just returning to build my layout after a 40 year gap. Amazing what you forget, so for me I enjoyed the explanations and the detailed shots. More like this please.
Hi Charlie Your workmanship, patience, & attention to detail fill me with admiration & envy. It' also great to know that we all make silly mistakes, it's strange how we don't notice at the time and then it suddenly dawns on you what you've done
Hi Charlie. Just keep your videos as they are, no need for change. And leave the mistakes in, it shows that nobody is infallable. I much appreciate your videos as they are informative without being boring, not an easy thing to do. Have a great Christmas and a happy new year. Lindsay
Great video Charlie, went back to look at your point & track installation. As I'm just starting track installation on my layout. Can't get enough tips!
Agree with other comments, keep the videos as they are, the work will dictate the length required, it's nice to see the 'faux pas', we all make them, it makes them fun to watch too!
This is a perfect speed to do the videos. I can work on my layout and listen and watch a bit in a relaxed state. Also all of us have made that error it think .
I too like the the speed of the video. It is so nice the watch it whitout having to go back to several times, because I missed something. When I glue something together, I use a finger to spred out the glue. I find much easyer and if you have ar wet piece og cloth within reach, it's not a problem to keep your fingers clean.
Hi Charlie just started watching your videos and I think they’re excellent. Even though they painfully show me what I’ve been doing wrong for the last 10 years. Keep up the good work. John
Absolutely good speed for me and was very helpful. I had a layout many years ago which was DC with very simple point motors, I intend to build a new layout using as much as my old kit as possible but with DCC therefore any tutorials showing DCC and fitting point motors is great. Just trying to get my head around it. Thank you Charlie and I hope that you and your family enjoy a very happy Christmas.
Hi Charlie, Brian here from across the pond in Georgia. I'm in the process of building a yard for my Chessie System layout. Until now I've been clipping the end ties from my Atlas flex track. The other day I watched one of your videos where you simply filed the "spike" from the end tie. I tried this and am quite happy to report it works great and looks much better. Merry Christmas Cheers, Brian
Another great video full of information for a keen learner. I have learnt so much from you and it inspires lots of us to “have a go” I am slowly working my way through your back catalogue of videos. Please do not change your presentation style, it’s relaxed, informative and even raises the odd laugh and smile.
Well done Charlie and thanks for keeping the cockup in there as it makes us mortals feel better to know everyone makes mistakes but they are not the end of the world. Happy Christmas.
yup Charlie we all make mistakes or we wouldn't learn our self's, ,put your hand up who has done the same ,if your hands not up ,your lying. great tutorial as usual ,keep em comming ,if i dont hear from you before Christmas ,i wish you your ever patient wife ,and all other viewers a very Merry Christmas , take care for now, Mac
I enjoyed actually seeing the process (instead of Camera Magic) because that shows how much Work goes on unseen during Model Railroading. Truthfully, if this isn't done correctly then nothing will function properly. Also love the Upgrade Secrets to ensure longevity of Operation. Keep up the Great Videos and MERRY CHRISTMAS to You and Your Family as well as to other Viewers and Their Families!!
Hi Charlie Having been a modeller for many years I never fail to find your videos disappointing as I always find tips and ideas I hadn’t thought of. I feel your delivery and speed you go through a project absolutely spot on. Keep up the good work. Seasonal greetings to you and your family for Christmas and the New Year. Regards Eltel (Terry) Good to have been able to meet you at Warley.
Totally loved the part where you modified the new point, I’m installing point motors for the first time ever and found this in valuable, yes the great finger of god is being made redundant 😂👍🏻
Just as I was getting track for Christmas so I can start laying- thanks for posting and keep up the good work! I love the clickbait sweatshirt. Your videos really help me as a young modeler.
The video was just right for me to follow and NO, I did not spot the mistake, but we all make them. A Very Happy New Year to you and your family, from me and mine. Martin. (Back to Bangladesh tomorrow, for 6 months this time.)( I am taking a few projects with me.)
Merry Christmas! And I could only hope that my mistakes were so easily fixed. Your videos are always well produced and the information so well presented. Please keep making them and I include your mistakes, it make me feel better about mine.
The one thing that got me was that jumpers comment...”click bait” hilarious. Very informative video as usual. Like you I show any mistakes or issues I have made as well, even tho I have not done a video in ages. I find showing these things just shows other aspects of the hobby, but also how does one overcome them. Keen to see how your elevation goes with small wagons. When I put my elevation in, coaches worked fine on it but I had issues with long rakes of wagons. In the end I could not resolve it so removed the elevation. I love your videos regardless of the speed. In the end you can’t please everyone. Just please yourself which is the most important thing. Have a great Christmas and many happy returns. Clint
Charlie, great video on the update, it is coming along well. I did not catch the mistake, cheers for admitting it. Thanks for showing the point modifications, i learned a lot from that. I guess electrofrogs are the way to go for DCC. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Have a safe and Happy New Year. Thanks for sharing. Ken
Thank you Charlie for the great how to video. I am starting my attic railway in 2020. I have and am still are learning from you and from Richard at Everard Junction. I have the plywood purchased for my open frame baseboards. the Loft is already boarded out and I have installed 2 6 foot strip lights. So next is the insulation of the rafters then its build time. Keep the videos coming they are an inspiration. Have a very merry christmas and a wonderful 2020.
Charlie, your videos are awesome. Ive learned so much. Love the bloopers, we all make them. Thia one it didnt catch. You kept me guessing till the end. Thanks.
Loved the long and detailed video, as I am sure many do. Just keep making videos as you see fit. Viewers can skip them, play them faster if they choose, or probably like the majority of us, enjoy the length and detail in its full glory. Your videos are presented well, you have great charisma as a presenter and I expect most of us are enjoying the video content in any way you see fit to make it. Remember you can't please everyone, so just make them to please yourself. Those that like will follow. The others can find a different creator to follow. Keep up the great work and content. BTW, personally I didn't spot the mistake, so glad you told us about it in the end.
Just a quick message to wish you a Merry Christmas and a hope that 2020 brings you all you hope for. Thanks again for the very helful and informative videos, looking forward to following you in 2020.
Great video again Charlie!!!!! The longer your videos are the better. I learned the hard way using a dremel to cut the wire, melted the turnout beyond useable. I did several before it no problem, over confident I attributed it to. Should have let it cool down as you suggested. Bought new diagonal cutters and no more dremel. I see you started using Railmodeller for your MAC now. Great program. Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Happy New Year.
Oh boy. Been there and done that😳. Well done for going back and re doing it all so tempting after hours of work to just make do but I am sure you will reap the benefits later.
Great video Charlie, you said at the start to get a cup of tea and settle back, however here in Australia I watch your vids around 6.00 PM so by then it is time for a glass of red, thanks for all your vids this year, have a merry Christmas and a safe New Year, greetings from sunny and warm Dromana Victoria, where we had a hot 41.3 degrees C.
Another nice video Charlie, thank you. Your format is just right as it is and the main reason I keep coming back for more. Have a great Christmas and see you in 2020.
Many thanks for your in depth video. We ALL make mistakes and it takes a "big" man to admit to them especially on U-Tube. Well done!! I am sure everyone is guilty of those situations and having the sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realise what you have done! At least you are human Charlie. Very many thanks for all your videos this year and wish you a very merry Christmas and a guid New Year from Scotland. Cheers Murray
Thanks for sharing this… very helpful and I’ve managed to do something similar (loosely…). My heart is often in my mouth when you use the larger drills, for your left hand seems so close 🙈😆
After playing with Train Simulator for a while I decided to look up videos about model railways. The amount of work required to set it all up is astonishing!
Hi Charlie. Until recently I was involved with a friend on a large 0 gauge layout, on which for the last 16 or so years we used Tortoise point motors. Like you we changed the wire up to a similar size to what you use. I was disturbed for your well being seeing you use that high speed cutting device. One slip and they can do a lot of damage to the layout or yourself. Piano wire is indeed very hard and requires substantial effort to cut. After a while we discovered that the Xuron hard wire cutters did the job well and relatively safely. It might be worth trying them - we got on OK with them. Safety first perhaps! Barry. PS keep up the good work and your interesting layout. You are one of the few railway modelling 'experts' on UA-cam who seems to actually know what you are talking about1
Hi Barry, I hang my head in shame. Yes I have relinquished cutting my piano wire in that manner. I now put it in place, mar it with a felt tip pen, remove it and cut it whilst holding it horizontally with a spinning disc. It might not be the ideal option, but it is certainly safer. Regards Charlie
Merry Christmas to you Charlie and your family, keep your videos as is mainly because they are enjoyable and informative.. Got to love stuffing up but yup all done it in the past lol.. Keep up the excellent work, looking brilliant.
Great video Charlie. The length of the video and the detail you went into was just fine. For beginners like me I can learn so much, for the experts they can always fast forward. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family. I look forward to your next updates in 2020.
For the Frog Motor wire Piano or otherwise, may I recommend a cycling tool cable cutter that is used for cutting tough high tensile steel wire used for brakes and gears and could get in close enough to your sleepers without the Dremmel thing! About £10.
Keep your videos just the way they are......including the cock ups! Exce;llent and informative as usual. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Wayne, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Thanks so much Charlie, John Robertson Australia.
Good afternoon Charlie.

Charlie, happy to know I am not the only one who makes mistakes. Really enjoyed this one.
Planning is everything, if only I did mine properly!
Nice to actually see someone working on a railway instead of just talking about it then showing it done keep up the good work and can we have more videos like this thanks and have a nice Christmas and happy new year

Thanks D1973, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas. Regards Charlie.
Just a quick message to wish you a Merry Christmas and a hope that 2020 brings you all you hope for. Thanks again for the very helful and informative videos, looking forward to following you in 2020.
Thanks David, and I do hope that 2020 treats you well too.
Thanks B68C, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas. Regards Charlie.
Thanks for the video. The way you do them & the length is fine. Happy Christmas & best wishes for a prosperous & healthy 2020. 👍👍😎

Thanks David, it was rather shocking to discover my error.

Love the jumper too
I just had to buy it.
Hi Bill, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Another nice video Charlie, thank you. Your format is just right as it is and the main reason I keep coming back for more. Have a great Christmas and see you in 2020.
Thanks I’m so pleased that you enjoy my channel.
Thanks MH, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Thanks for sharing this… very helpful and I’ve managed to do something similar (loosely…). My heart is often in my mouth when you use the larger drills, for your left hand seems so close 🙈😆
Thanks David I’m so pleased that you found it useful and of course, that you cared about my health. Regards Charlie
After playing with Train Simulator for a while I decided to look up videos about model railways. The amount of work required to set it all up is astonishing!
Yes but such addictive fun!
But It really is so satisfying
Have good Christmas as well Charlie and look more videos in the new year👍
That's very kind David.
Thanks Sean, you’re too kind and I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel.
Cheers, Charlie! I appreciated this video warts and all!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Great video Charlie. The length of the video and the detail you went into was just fine. For beginners like me I can learn so much, for the experts they can always fast forward. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family. I look forward to your next updates in 2020.
Thanks Ian, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Merry Christmas charlie keep up the good work and yeah i had to rip out a junction because a curved point had slipped in to the mix glad we all do it.
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
For the Frog Motor wire Piano or otherwise, may I recommend a cycling tool cable cutter that is used for cutting tough high tensile steel wire used for brakes and gears and could get in close enough to your sleepers without the Dremmel thing! About £10.
Thanks Ian, an interesting option.
Really enjoyed that charlie it was very useful hope you and your family have a great Christmas and a happy new year
Thanks Anthony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
