Hi! I am a musician, 31 years old, from St. Petersburg, Russia. I have the 2017 version. I have not smelled the 2012 version, the original and others. I took a tester in a local perfume store and put it on my hand. And it was an instant love. I saw that some people think the fragrance is too mature, but I totally disagree. Classic - yes, but not outdated or "old man's fragrance". I highly recommend giving the fragrance time. You have to get used to it and watch how it changes over time. The fragrance is stunningly beautiful, refined and unique. Every time I apply it, it plays with different colors. Sometimes it seems more bitter, sometimes creamy. Demachy has done an amazing job. It is the first fragrance where I could see a whole story and an attempt to tell something. I can say for sure that it is a fragrance for an advanced nose that can recognize beauty. It is not Dylan Blue, which is understandable from the first time and very straightforward (although the scent is also good and I have it). It seems to me that Eau Sauvage has a very intelligent mood. With it, you feel confident and calm. I think it is an underrated fragrance.
Hey there! I'm from Novosibirsk) The perfume is sofisticated and for experienced noses. I have both of them. Recently I wore it in the high heat. It worked very well. The durability is insane!
Nailed it. I only had a decant, which I wore throughout the winter of 2016 while traveling. By the time I came back around to purchase, it had been re-released but I took a chance and bought it. I was initially disappointed because it seemed completely altered but the familiar fragrance emerged in the dry down to greet me like an old friend. I have grown to appreciate the stages, as you related them, and love the new one as well. Would love to get my hands on the 2012 though...
Totally agree...There are differences, but still these are so close that it makes no sense to hunt the 1st version overpriced on ebay...also I prefer the 2nd version by a very small margin. Both are great and perform great.
I have two bottles of the old version and two bottles of the new version. They really are quite similar. The 2017 version is actually more wearable and works in the heat. Dry downs are nearly identical . Both masterpieces
@@mixedpleasure4324I only know the 2017 version. I would say that one could potentially wear it in any situation. It's ultra classy and distinguished. So if you think you could pull that off then why not!
That's what I heard about the 2017 release too. It's why I chose it over the 2012, in addition to the hedione - aka, nature's ambroxan. 😂 Very well compared Pep. If Terre d'Hermes is the supervisor, Eau Sauvage is the boss.
@@time4jesus Appreciate the nod brother. I forgot to mention that the new Sauvage is the temp who looks like Johnny Depp and just got fired for stealing paperclips. 😜
Just purchased a bottle of 2012 and a bottle 2017 today and from what I can see the 2017 version is just as good as the 2012 I've had them both on for the last 7 hours on each hand and its impossible to tell the difference both very beautiful scents 100% happy I bought them
Absolutely beautiful comparison, mate! I ordered the 2017 version which is gonna arrive soon. You went super deep into the way both formulations of the perfume evolve and broke down all the nuances. This is the exactly the kind of video that people like me would look for. Really really insightful video. Thank you :) My only question is, how well do you think the 2017 version would work as an everyday warmer weather fragrance?
Thank you so much. Given the way it dries down, i still think some people could find it a bit cloying on a hot day. But i wear both during the summer anyway.
@@TheScentinel appreciate the quick response! Okay that sounds good to me. I mostly gravitate towards sweeter, winter fragrances so wanted to have a fresher one in my collection so ordered this. Since I wear colder weather fragrances in warmer weather usually, should be fine with this 😂 glad to know you wear both versions in warmer weather too! Can't wait to smell this!
I seem to be the only person on the planet that does not like the Parfum - either of them - at all. I think it's the balsamic/resinous accord formed by the elemi/myrrh. It doesn't sit well with me. It gives the fragrance a "gummy" smell and I don't like it. The appeal completely escapes me. Now the original classic Eau Sauvage EDT, on the other hand, is my #2 fragrance of all time. And the EDT and Parfum(s) are completely different frags.
There are a couple of legendary Christian Dior fragrances that I've fallen in love with: Fahrenheit and Eau Sauvage EDT. Fahrenheit still smells unique 32 years after it was launched. It's a bold and daring fragrance with a beautiful violet note. The original Eau Sauvage. It's not as potent as Fahrenheit, but it has an alluring and mysterious quality - a certain je ne sais quoi that is almost impossible to describe. It's no wonder that well-informed connoisseurs like Luca Turin, Roja Dova, Sali Hughes and Lee Kynaston rave about it. Eau Sauvage EDP (2017) smells different to the EDT. It's a classy scent that uses high-quality natural ingredients. You can easily pick out the individual notes: bergamot, vetiver, hedione and elemi - unlike Dior Sauvage, which smells synthetic and linear. Its popularity is one of life's most enduring mysteries.
Love the classics, and it's a shame the original was discontinued. Now I noticed the 2017 version is getting harder to find. Thanks for the comparison video, Pep.
Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 is probably the most underrated fragrance in my collection. Definitely more versatile and somewhat more mass appealing but in no way is this generic. Excellent review and comparison Pep!
I have a 2014 and 2017 batch. I love the 2017 batch for daytime wear and reserve the 2014 darker scent for the evenings. The most frustrating thing about purchasing this is that most discounters use 2011 stock photo, without posting the release day or batch code of the one they're selling. Seems like false advertising to me.
I have most versions of this fragrance. Early 80s vintage EDT, new EDT, Parfum 2012, new Parfum, Extreme, Fraicheur Cuir, Cologne, and my favorite is the new formulation of the EDT and the second one is the new Parfum. I like all of them to be honest. The only one I'm missing is the rare 100% Glaçon. The new EDT is just so amazingly all-around and likable. You could wear it to the office, the gym, and the date and in all seasons of the year.
Hello, sir! A very good review of these two masterpieces! I'm luckily have both of them. The 2012 version is in the 200 ml bottle. Just got lucky offline shopping. Take care! All the best to you. Alain
Hi great tutorial thank you . I purchased a 2017 bottle, after reading the reviews I was a little bit concerned how this new formula would smell like , how wrong I was to have any doubts . It is totally amazing & the dry down is fantastic. I’ve got so many compliments from both male & female asking what was I wearing . So glad I bought it . 😊
So glad I found this comparison video. Thank you for saving me the extra $$ trying to hunt a vintage bottle. Currently Dior’s website has images of both versions of Eau Sauvage parfum on their Eau Sauvage parfum product page. I wonder which one they’re shipping out.. so confusing.
I can confirmed what u said about the 2012 version later batches have a deeper green color, no brown color at all and stronger. I have a 2017 Y.O.M of the 2012 version. Absolutely stunning fragrance❤❤❤❤
I’ve just ordered a new version, although the old one can be found on e bay, rarely though.I always loved the original 1966 version, but never bought it,because after 3 hours it was gone, but such a great cologne, considering when it was created, still smells great nowadays, modern, ahead of it’s time, definitely.Very informative review, thanks.
Do you think it's worthy spending about 120$ for a 90/100 ml bottle of Dior Eau Sauvage 2012 or just buying a bottle of Dior Eau Sauvage 2017 at 60$? I want to mention that I'm not a perfume collector, I have only 10 perfumes and I don't want to spend big on perfumes. I really like the 2017 version and I don't know if it's just the hype around the 2012 version or if it's probably the best designer perfume.
I have been chasing down older bottles of classics due to the oakmoss note. As it is now banned. Wondering if the 2012 contained real oak moss or not. Based on quick research I wasn't able to tell. Great video and reporting on this classic.
