    Chief engineer is the single most useful character in the game.

    Awesome board art. Makes the standees blend into the scene like they are actually in the room!

    I have to admit i started watching Star Trek because Rahdo is a trekkie and wanted to get all of his references. Now i am a trekkie too and glad to know what growing the beard means 😁

      What does "growing the beard" mean?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  11 місяців тому

      it's a reference to star trek next gen. the first season wasn't great, but when the second season started, first thign everyone noticed was riker grew a beard. and then the 2nd season turned out to be a huge improvement, so the joke became that it was because he grew his beard that things improved

      The game has a terrible name. But it is one of the most wholesome games I have played in this crazy world.

    Hey thanks for posting this! I was debating getting it but this looks to cool to pass up!
    (only suggestion is to consider putting "part 1" or something like that in the title)

    2:10 I read the rules as follows: each player is given a card and now they can chose between that one the the other card(s) with the same color (and rank)

    I've had this game for 2 years and it is by far my favorite co-op game. The original publisher still sells it and it has 2 expansions.

      @@philippgrzemba5023 the original printings were expansions. They didn't come with their own boards, player pieces, etc.

      @@philippgrzemba5023 they are referring to Adrift which is simply a new deck of alerts with some new pieces and I believe additional character ability cards.

    Seems like the main difference to the kickstarted version from TheGameCrafter is that the skill card names have been made more clear, and the character cards have a different layout for the icons (skill and discount icons
    In that version, you randomly (or not) select one player color and then choose one of the characters of that color to play. But then, that game only came with one meeple per color and not the standees and stickers.
    That said, I think you played the initial five events wrong with respect to the external scanners: If I read the manual right, the five initial events also "use" the external scanners so that when an initial event turns them offline, only the next event would be discarded when the external scanners go offline.

    I could have sworn this game was available to purchase on Amazon for a bit, but now it's marked as a pre-order. Anyhoo, it'll be in my mailbox as soon as it releases. Can't wait to play it. I really enjoy watching your run-throughs, Rahdo! I noticed that your cards are in sleeves. Did you add those yourself, or did they come with the game?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +1

      this is a reprint from a different publisher, so probably the one you saw before was the original version from the gamecrafter?
      nope, doesn't come with sleeves

    From the first five alerts, you discarded the two "revealed" alerts because of the scanner and didn't have them happen. Is that part of the initial five setup that this can happen? Because it means you lost 7 cards at the beginning. Or were you supposed to have done those first two alerts, plus 3 more?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +2

      nope, the game can be brutal that way right out of the gate. this has been confirmed on BGG (i had to go look it up)

    Have you won a game on "Normal" with just two characters yet? I've played it 5+ times with two and haven't even come close to winning. Our three and four-player games have gone a lot better. It seems like it was made to be played with at least three characters.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +1

      played 3 times, all on normal. all losses, but each time getting closer to a win :)

    • @Mangina9000
      @Mangina9000 7 років тому

      I've only played normal 3 times and found it to be easy to moderately challenging, but I think some combinations of crew work like magic and some might be brutal.
      I played Hologram twice, I don't have enough games in my belt to really know, but he feels really OP to me.
      There is also little motivation in the game to not deter from the communal objective of that turn; people can easily come to agreement that X needs to be repaired in a certain order. In those points in the game it seems kind of TOO cooperative. A little dash of the prisoner's dilemma would mix it up a little. Regardless it's fast, pretty fun, and easy to teach.
      So this the 2nd ed? I was looking forward to it getting past Gamecrafter, as I think they are overpriced for the components. Good for KS or prototypes but not something I'd buy for $45. I didn't mind the art in the game too much, but the components don't seem to have improved too much and the design elements on all but the character cards are still very plain and template-y . I enjoy it on Tabletop Simulator, you can get it for $7 there.

    Can you get a loss with all aliens taking over the ship with the first five alerts?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому

      nope, but all the aliens can be on the board, which means if you don't take some out on the very first turn, then you could lose when the next event happens, if it's an alien one (you don't lose until you're told to add aliens and there aren't any)

      The way Richard explained the Highest Rank in the Ship is the Lowest Number... since there's no Captain, the Admiral is the Highest Ranked crew member (he has the number 1) so he goes first, and that's what he did!
