I think what the Joker really "loves" about Harley is that she is his creation. He's a psychopath, he cannot feel real love, but Harley willingly sacrificing everything for him to a point where she became his mirror by jumping in the same chemicals that "made" him really boosts his ego. That's why he is so attached to her and tries to get her back every time. First she was a game to him. He wanted to see how far he can make this smart and beautiful woman go for him and how much he can break her. He got her to ruin her career for him, he ruined her sanity and after torturing her he probably thought he managed to break her spirit, too. When she didn't let go and continued to chase him, he just continued to play the game until he asked of her to give up her whole identity and life to "live for him" and become a female version of him by jumping into the chemicals. I think what really made him jump after her is that he realized that no one was ever so devoted to him and therefore no one would ever give him the same ego kick. While she probably thought that with her devotion and love she could "save" him. You can see that later in the movie when she has that vision of getting him back, he wasn't the Joker anymore. He was a loving husband and father. That's why they are so toxic, no one loved the other one for who they were, but for what they projected into each other.
I love that this scene is from Harley's perspective. Cause the scene is so abusive and toxic but when she relives it she remembers it as a romantic moment.

He asked her to get him guns so he could escape and she did. He came back and fried her brain as revenge for "Leaving him in a black hole of confusion" as he stated early on in the movie. Harleen Quinnzel (her original name) was still madly in love with the Joker. So he took her to Ace Chemicals and told her to prove her love to him by falling into the chemicals. When she fell into the chemicals It bleached her skin (which is why it's so pale) and her hair (which is why it's white). The blue from her shirt and the Red/Pink from his shirt started to melt in the chemicals which is why the color started popping up into the chemicals which also gave her the blue and red/pink hair at the ends. Afterwards she had completely turned into Harley Quinn (the name the Joker gave her) and gave her all her tattoos except her leg ones because in the beginning of the movie at the night club you could see she didn't have her leg tattoos yet. When she got caught by batman and taken to prison she gave herself the leg tattoos as you could see they were upside down and one of them were marks of how many days she was there and one says "I'll wait forever" meaning she was already in prison by the time she gave them to herself. @@zoravarzordar7348 he's not just "not a good person" he's the embodiment of everything evil that a person can be. The joker only manipulates Harley because he needed a sidekick to break him out of Arkham, he doesn't love her.

The thing that I love about this scene is that one moment of struggle joker had, he was going to leave her for sure to let her die...but there was an instant where that one tiny small part of of him cared about her, genuinely loved her. But then that tiny small part died in birds of prey.
@welcome beach but why did him struggle then? If he was only willing to use her that much, he would have stayed but he clearly was ready to go. He thought twice.
Most people don't know that originally in this scene the joker pushed her into the chemicals against her will, but since this is from her perspective its showing it as what she remembers as a 'romantic' moment due to the manipulation the joker inflicted upon harley.
@@denizroohy7099 originally in the comic she was pushed against her will, or at least looked like it. I'm not sure if in the movie they made her jump willingly as an adaptation or it's showing how she (falsely) remembered it happening, but either way the original scene was far from romantic
According to the Joker “to be free you have to throw away your old self”, that’s basically what this chemical bath thing is about, letting the change affect not only your mind, but also your look
I threw away my old self from high school, I freed myself from what I used to be, and changed into the real me, and now I couldn’t be happier with my life, laughing and always smiling :)

Technically joker wanted to get rid of her but he had a spark ... He started to like her so when she fell down he realized he wasnt actually as heartless as he though he was towards her and realized he loved her.
I just love when he asks her about living or dying for him then he turns around & makes a noise of frustration and thinks to himself "I have to jump in after her..." & honestly looks extremely savage when he jumps in to the chemical tub to save her & starts laughing
any notice the color running off their clothes and you see jokers red overtaking harley's blue..... symbolism is joker has completely taken over harley's soul.....
To be honest, this is how we fall in love . When we fall , we never know if somebody else is going to jump back . But when you are really in love you are ready to risk it all
The scene was so perfect! The way she jumps (let's skip the part of psychological abuse) to the way how she remembers Joker and how much she loves him and how crazy that is and she becomes so emotional to the point where she lets her teammate see her vulnerability and almost cries. This movie really tried it's best to establish Harley's character and I'm 100% satisfied with it
2:34 ''Woah! Harl, relax. It's me..'' proves already that Deadshot is a safe space for her. I would love to see more of them as a couple, as much as I love Harlivy. He clearly cared about her a lot.
I loved the chemistry between Margot's and Leto's Harley and Joker. It was a very infectious and lustful take to their relationship. Definitely interesting. I would've loved to see their own movie with the Batfleck. If only...
I don't quite agree with the hate Jared Leto's Joker portrayal received. He was/is a very different kind of Joker than all the others before him. He is a young flamboyant punk, psychotic and brash with a devil may care attitude. All the Joker's on film are very different from each other yet incredible in their own way. Heath Ledger's Joker was an anarchist. Jack Nicholson was the OG gangster and I am sure Joaquin Phoenix will also be different. All of them are good actors and that's what makes each Joker portrayal stand out in their own way.
Theres different kind of jokers and each one have their good parts .. I don't have a fav i love all of em but I understand why this one got hate because this joker hasn't been like this in years
right? this urban, gangster style joker fit well into the context of the movie which was a bunch of themed criminals in the modern world. yes, maybe this was a much more "let's put on a show" take of the joker that what we're used to but who's to say that this version of the joker doesn't exist inside the complex mess that is the joker himself?
YGhappyvirus I agree. Heath was amazing as joker but he wouldn’t have fit in this style movie. And Jared would not have fit in the Dark Knight. Jared was good for the context of the movie. And he is hot lol
I more dislike Jared Leto and don’t want him back because he harassed Margo Robbie constantly and touched her inappropriately + without her consent during filming certain scenes. It made it her so uncomfortable that she requested he be removed. If he’s going to be a creepy prick like that, then he can fuck off
This is the first time the Joker has come across as attractive. Always scared and mad, but now attractive and scary. I guess love makes even the scariest men attractive.

I don’t see how a psychopath who only uses Harley to let out his anger and who would rather just let her die in that acid cause she is another card in his game
I mean its an abusive relationship, between the joker and Harley Quinn so It has changed in the movie. Harley is so loyal to the joker that even if she dumps him she keeps going back to him, because he manipulates her into thinking that he's changed but it just happens again and again until she finally left him for good
“Would you die for me...no that’s too easy...would you live for me...” You can choose to die but can’t choose to live...that’s why he said that was an easy question. He is testing her because she is basically saying her love is so strong that she will live

I feel like Letos joker didn't nail anything about what the Joker is. Not menacing, not mad genius, not tragically comedic. Was just desperate madness, which is a quality that Two-Face has, not the joker. All the tattoos are just plain stupid.. The "damaged" tattoo is like.. wtf..? Now, it sure as hell wasn't Letos fault that his Joker ended up like this, but whoever had the idea that the Joker should be done like this needs a good smacking. I am glad though with the fact that Jacquin got the role as Joker in his own film, he has a way wider acting-range than Leto. And i do not wish to see this tattooed freak version of a "joker" in any future movie, it hurts his comic-book and animated movie/series reputation pretty badly..
UNPOPULAR OPINION: Jared leto's joker was the perfect fit for joker and Harley quinn duo i mean there were some flawes but i can't imagine heath ledger and joaquin phoenix having a Harley quinn by their side they're more like a solo joker like harley didn't even exist

There's just nothing scary about this Joker. He looks like any mafia guy in the movies but with Green hair. The joker is a psycopath, he's violent, dangerous and psycothic. So far all the representations of the Joker in movies showed that. Joaquin's Joker is actually terrifying, and I don't know about you but I was more scared of Amanda Waller than the Joker when I saw this movie

I watched this scene so often... But now, I realise that this is the first time when he shows really his love to her. He could let her in the chemicals die, but he jumped and kissed her.

No this happened. The joker is seen trying to leave her before he says fuck it and jumps. He so drawn into her Madness he couldn’t resist.

Most people don't know that originally in this scene the joker pushed her into the chemicals against her will, but since this is from her perspective its showing it as what she remembers as a 'romantic' moment due to the manipulation the joker inflicted upon harley.
I don’t think he would’ve pushed her against her will because this was all just her proving her love and commitment to him, but that is a good theory.
@@denizroohy7099 originally in the comic she was pushed against her will, or at least looked like it. I'm not sure if in the movie they made her jump willingly as an adaptation or it's showing how she (falsely) remembered it happening, but either way the original scene was far from romantic

It's ok to be different but atleast not cringey
