what annoys me is when im asked to use a smartphone when im trying to do something on my computers and some services will claim that they want to prove its actually me but their logic is that if someone magically has a smartphone with an app on it or have a cell phone number than that automatically means its not a suspicious login. being required to enter a phone number to use a service is something else that annoys me. this foolishness basically makes it impossible to use just a computer for things nowadays or requires that someone purchase a phone plan for either no reason or a reason with absolutely ZERO logic behind it. i know it may come to a shock but i dont have a phone plan. i dont need it so i dont pay for it but i guess its becoming harder not to. but anyway i think you make a good point about having a code or confirmation request sent to an email or smartphone app and mention the security measures to access those things. like i said earlier apparently many tech companies think that having a smartphone or phone number automatically means no hacking i guess?
While it sucks for 2FA pushed on you when you don’t want it, but they’re trying to save their butts if someone did get your creds and logged in. I think 2 factor authentication is a great idea. Sure it can be circumvented by social engineering or very sophisticated SIM stealing efforts, 99% of the time it being there can save you. The fact you’re annoyed your BANK has 2 factor is a stretch, that’s literally your financial institution, you should want to have as many layers of security you want. Interesting take but I don’t think you ever actually had an account compromised that was important, as you’d wish you had 2FA in that instance

That is true, even though phone numbers can be hijacked.
