They develop a lot of games in China. Usually rip offs of famous games like Mario Cart and Team Fortress. And somehow they always manage to make their rip offs 100 times shittier than the original, but to win in their games you have to spend a lot of money. It always feels to me like Tencent invented micro-transaction because they were doing it way before any western company did it, and no western company has made micro-transaction as crazy and greedy as Tencent.

They develop a lot of games in China. Usually rip offs of famous games like Mario Cart and Team Fortress. And somehow they always manage to make their rip offs 100 times shittier than the original, but to win in their games you have to spend a lot of money. It always feels to me like Tencent invented micro-transaction because they were doing it way before any western company did it, and no western company has made micro-transaction as crazy and greedy as Tencent.
They did develop... WeChat.
WeChat is messenger, uber, applepay, android wallet, paypal, yelp, facebook, expedia, skype, and more ALL COMBINED! it is kind of a big thing.
And WeChat is now worth over half tencent's market cap or over 80B. That is why Tencent is afloat currently.

I wouldn't call it a gaming company since it doesn't produce it's own games. Rather, it is a holding company because it buys parts of other businesses for the sole purpose of making money off of the companies it holds stakes in. Gaming companies produce a product to make money, Tencent on the other hand, buys parts of companies who already produce games to make a profit.
All I can say this time is - I actualy did know a little about this company. Didn't know they had a hand in the LoL or ActBliz cookie jar though. That's news to me. Thanks for the info, Falcon!

Thats why I never play Tencent games ever since I started working in China 6 years ago. Tencent is big, and most of their games are full of microtransactions. And yeah, they are kinda dangerous, I just hope they wont acquire any US/Europe game developers other than Riot and Epic.
Developers are blinded by money, most developers care more about money then passion for their games and fanbase..

No thank you. Tencent is the probably the worst company in China... They make money by micro-transactions and TONS of them. Not only League of Legends, but also stuff like "Call of Duty Online" "Monster Hunter Online" or even worse... "Cross Fire" and believe it or not, they're all p2w. Cross Fire is basically a Korean fps game that was first released in 2007 if u don't know, then Tencent came along and brought the game and stuff... And now, the game is one of most popular games in China for young gamers. To be honest, most them are around the age or 12 and 13. I don't even know where they get their money for the transactions from XDDD
